It’s misinformation that some anime news outlets are saying They are just ending the BD-R and BD-W discs BD-ROM and BD Movies (I.e. Anime, Movies, TV Shows) are still going to be produced and sold.
Physical media isn't going anywhere. Even if it has to go underground and become a bootlegging industry. Streaming is getting way too expensive and everything is getting censored.
Just like yesterday with the password issue with CR, when most likely the accounts that we posted were phished instead of breached. Changing PW is still a good thing.
@@Falmosta yeah everyone been saying Crunchyroll got hacked, while they haven’t said anything about it. Like where is the confirmation. Just misinformation spreading everywhere.
Lol I immediatly thought of him seeing this video. I'm still subbed to Chibi but I feel like I skip 80% his video when I see the clickbait coming from miles always. I saw his video on "the end of physical media" and skipped it of course but now by pure curiosity I want to check if at least he was more honnest in the video than his thumbnail.
thanks for the clarification, it seriously eased my worries ^~^ when everyone was posting about it my only questions were "what about upcoming video games?" and "what about anime id like to watch when my internet is down?" so hearing that those two aspects are apparently unaffected really soothes my heart x.x
My suspicion is that the BD recordables market moved into the hands of Verbatim, because they have the halo effect of the M-Disc, and a lot of people buying optical now are looking specifically for cold-storage archival, not just everyday ripping and burning. BD-R using HTL recording is not a bad technology for that - although it's had less time to prove itself, those discs aren't formulated with the fickle organic substrates of previous formats - and the base cost and availability of archival BD is better than LTO tape, the usually cited alternative for cold storage. LTO is the kind of tech that it's someone's job to work with, while a Blu-Ray disc has proliferation on its side. We do have a need for a higher capacity optical format since cold storage is going to remain a thing - there are promising lab developments to that end, but industry has to buy in for it to actually get in our hands.
Thanks for clearing things up! I watched a previous video from a TH-camr who was hopping on the scare train and spouting a bunch of BS. Thanks for shooting for light rather than heat on this story.
This is still bad news if, like me, you like burning games and old media onto discs to play on retro devices. For example, internet archive have many ISOs and other file formats that I have to burn into a disk before I can enjoy them.
Misinformation aside, yes it is bad that ANN and other media groups refuse to even give context to the actual topic that SONY is phasing out. But there is also a real fear that if it was Blue Ray Burnable disks that they are stopped producing, eventually it will lead to actual physical media down the track in the next few years. By 2030, I don't think many retailers would be able to survive without physical media to keep customers walking into their shops unless if they have other alternatives like toys and figures.
Also the lost of license's not the best quality on streaming is exactly why i've bought all of Bang Dream! On bluray you can't even watch season 1 on HiDive but they have the other seasons.
@Otaku Spirit you have been mentioned Otaku Spirit (Andrew) is such a great guy and he always brings the most factual correct content. I follow you Espiritu, I follow Chibi.... but I must say I most follow Otaku Spirit (Andrew). I hope more people will appreciate your content

Just got and NAS with raid 1 and 2 18TB HDDs ,-)) while i have plenty pf BDs and DvDs on shelfe (plus VHS, and LD in Storage) i also have most of them from the 7th seas on HDD for a reason.
I'd say that it's not a bad thing, discs are now just an obsolete technology, why don't we just move to protected USB-sticks for physical content distribution?
Ya know Sony is not the only disk manufacture. And most of my Anime is published by Senti. I also think the Anime producers will keep putting out disk.
I recently starting to collect blu-rays again. Because I want better picture quality of my movies that I love and I know I want to see it again. Movies and some tv-series. Because quality of the picture of streaming is not always good and some show I don't find it on streaming sites. And I don't like to watch from my computer. 🙃. And some streaming doesn't show behind the scenes/making of which I love to watch. But I also buy some digital movies aswell.
People need to do their research, its only blank blu rays theulit stopping, actual movies and shows on blue ray isn't stopping these idiots are getting worse then the fake fans that just hate on everything that their say their fans of when their not
Recordible and rewritables. Remember those. I used play with rewritable cd and dvd discs. Not really that practical. Especially now. This is stuff for recording a television show on tv or a movie or some kind of event on tv. Yeah this makes sense. You can burn blu rays still. Not record shows live with a blu ray. There is a difference. I remember recording tv shows around 2006 to maybe 2009 with dvds with my family. Who does that anymore. Recording shows like Stargate or what ever back then. Yes recording them live on dvd. Everyone else. Ow!! The world is ending. Its end of having something in your hands. You mean like a thumb drive which is way bigger then dvd or blu ray could be now.
Anime DVD just isn't worth it in 2025, if it's a collectors edition or something with some kind of promo i'd consider getting it but a dry DVD? not for me.
there's too much fucking censorship and skipped content in anime adaptations, so it's rare that I buy BDs, I'd rather just buy merch, I think far more people would buy them if that was not the case by buying a butchered/censored adaptation I'm telling them "it's ok" to censor, and I will never support censorship if I know about it beforehand
Sounds more like your player is degrading. Over time the laser weakens and struggles to read BD while still reading DVD fine. It's especially prevalent in sony players and playstations.

This Is Not The End Of Physical Media
They won't because, in their motherland, digital media is not as big as physical.
Time to stock up on blue Ray-RWs. I need to burn some of my movies actually
I imagine sony stopping its production will give other companies (possibly smaller) an oppourtiny to take advantage of the market space left by them.
There was alot of panic yesterday or when this broke heh. I thought you might make a video clearing it up. :)
Only in Japan. Other countries produce own blank bluray media. So it's not gloom and doom by any stretch.
why can't we just download the anime, and write it to an empty blue-ray disc ?
