  • When you are applying a top coat for protection and for enhancement of the grain there you have many options. One topcoat we have been using lately is General Finishes Arm R Seal. This oil based urethane is fantastic. It does take a bit longer to dry due to being oil based but it provides excellent protection for your product.
Arm r Seal is easy to apply and we use a 2" foam brush to do it. Three coats will usually be all you need as well.
The sander we use in our shop is the Bosch 6" Dual mode sander. This thing is a beast. it is variable speed, and has two modes for sanding. There is nothing we haven't been able to sand. For this project we dialed down the speed and it did a great job.

For a topcoat this is fantastic, in our shop we use the satin but it also comes in other sheens as well. You can mix it with a little stain if you wanted as well.

All these videos do the same thing when showing arm r seal! They just put it on and act like that’s the end. In reality, we need to know how to final sand and buff AFTER the 3-4 coats have cured. Do we sand at 1000 grit, move up to 1500? Do we just use steel wool? If so do we use water or wax with the steel wool? I ask because I am frustrated with the results after final coats.

After the final coat I don’t do anything. Sand in between with 320/400 the put on a light final coat.
