    My stepdad was a professional cowboy, both in the PRCA and the predecessor the RCA and a working ranch cowboy. He knew Slim so I met him and had the opportunity to watch him perform at many rodeos. A great guy and a real cowboy.

      We used to see Slim in Columbia CA. when he came to the P.O. He was just like in the movies very friendly to everyone all ways smiling and joking.Real deal cowboy with a hat!

    • @blondbowler8776
      @blondbowler8776 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrTelewill There was that father/son duo used to ride in and get hammered at the St. Charles and/or the Jack Douglas. I think they were 86'd from the hotel bar. The kid rode a black and white paint horse. I left CA in '91, worked with the kid at Sonora Liquors in '78-79, thereabouts. To this day I miss the Mother Lode. Old movies shot in Columbia, LHOTP, Duckwall Mountain, Red Hills, always make me homesick.
      "Law of the Land" is one filmed in Columbia. Find it here on TH-cam.
      I was in it. Maybe you were, too...I'm the guy horseback, long blond hair, bowler hat (hence the handle).

    Thanks. Very entertaining, and gave useful insight into the man including his abilities with horses. Remember seeing an old Western where he and his partners were about to ride against another group. It wasn't done in an overt manner but just before the ride he casually put a handful of rifle cartridges in his mouth. And during the ride at full gallop he easily reloaded his carbine and kept firing. He of course was riding on his stirrups using his legs as shock absorbers to steady his aim. (The only actor in the sequence who was.) Slim may have been a character but he was also a very 'real', intelligent and accomplished guy with the right stuff.
