I love your videos, I am going to get my Winsor & Newman set today! I research for the best deal for my budget! This time of year is great for getting supplies with black friday sales and coupons! I have made 4 earrings with my with channels and I am ready to paint! You cause so much excitement to create my own designs! Thank you! Happy Holidays, sir!!
@BRMproductons Great question! I've experimented with many different types of paper and have found Arches 140 lb. cold press paper to be the best. It is the ideal weight; but more important, the combination of the paper weight and glue results in a structurally strong form. Regular printing paper will probably be too light-weight to achieve good results. You may not need to use Arches, but you should stick to cold press watercolor paper of either 90 or 140 lb. weight.
Love how all the colours interact with one another...it emanates good feelings. I can't wait to see how my first attempt at this will turn out. Thanks for sharing...much appreciated!! :) Aline
@BRMproductons I use Winsor and Newton watercolor paints, which are available at most art supply stores. There are also many other good brands to choose from. Good luck and have fun with the project!
The yellow was a "happy accident!" I really liked seeing it do that. It kind of reminded me of what drops of rubbing alcohol will do on top of wet paint.
Winsor & Newton primarily; and I like to use, among many others, Winsor Lemon Yellow or Winsor Yellow; Phthalocyanine Blue or Winsor Blue; and Alizarin Crimson or Winsor Red.
@realisticart: That "explosion of yellow" you mention is a result of the amount of oxgall in ur yellow paint. Add oxgall to any other paint, and you have the same effect with that other paint. Or just use simple water with oxgall!
I am using watercolor paints (I recommend Winsor & Newton) for this project and prefer these beautiful materials, but acrylic paints mixed with water will also work and give very nice results. Thanks for watching!
Yes - I always dampen the paper with clean, fresh water before applying the watercolor paint to allow the colors to flow. Hope this answers your question. Regards, -Ross Barbera
Thanks for sharing great video....I kept seeing figures in your creation ...can't help it they popped out..I just bought some Peerless watercolor sheets they are fun to work with. Have you tried using them? What a fun experience can't wait to give it a try. Appreciate all of your suggestions and tips.
@realisticart Ok but what about paint too me water color paint is just water down paint is there a type of paint out there for this type of stuff or a brand i guess you would prefer over another?
@AmeliaFiend Salt is commonly used to impart special effects on watercolor paints. The process is interesting but is too long to put here. Please check my blog for a posting on the use of salt. Thanks for the question!
Hi - I buy my rice paper at Saxs Arts and Crafts website - it is called Imperial Kinwashi rice paper in 24" x 36" sheets (#449708). Just note that this video project is for the heavier watercolor paper. I have other videos that are specifically for rice paper. Hope this helps.
@karolunatik Thank you for all your kind words - I'm glad you find the videos useful. If you like, check out my blog and newsletter for more info. Good luck!
Hi - This video project is for 140 lb cold pressed watercolor paper (not rice paper). I do have rice paper video projects as well (rice paper earrings, for example) and am looking into various alternatives to rice paper. Watch my blog for new posts on this subject. Thanks very much for watching and commenting!
Hi Jean Pierre, Did you see my new video entitled "How to Stretch Watercolor Paper, The Classic Method by Ross Barbera" In that video I used an archival glue (Jade 711), you can also use Lineco Nertral ph Adhesive. Thanks for watching my video!
@BoopdidoopGirl I recently posted a new video describing how to construct the wax channel. You can find it on my youtube channel. It's a 2 part video, How To Construct A Watercolor Paper Pendant, The Channel Part 1 by Ross Barbera How To Construct A Watercolor Paper Pendant, The Channel Part 2 by Ross Barbera
@PennyQuest Actually I did soak the paper before I applied the watercolor. The paper should be wet so that the colors freely intermingle, and I avoid blending the colors with my paintbrush. Soon I'll be posting a video demonstrating how to construct a watercolor paper bracelet, and I'll also review the watercolor painting process in that new video. Thanks for watching!!
I totally LOVE how the yellow reacted.... Simply beautiful!
Thanks Kat! Hope it was helpful!
That is great news! It's always fun to get all your supplies and be ready to go! Enjoy the painting process!! Happy Holidays to you too!
