  • While we were in Columbus, OH, Jay (Square Pegs) and I stopped by downtown Columbus to an awesome toy store called Big Fun and we also checked out 3 of the several video game stores in the area. Capital Games, Forever Games and Game Depot.
I asked before filming in all 4 store locations.

If a game doesn't have a price sticker, I'm not gonna ask and just walk out.
However, check out the Columbus Ohio Retro Gaming Convention video th-cam.com/video/e8zSckqeBFk/w-d-xo.html

Theres also The Laughing Ogre nearby. It's more a comic book store/hobby store/board game store
Same thing about the prices. It's annoying.
Btw those brick streets ice up in winter.
At least in the city I live in a bit north of Columbus. We have a few here.

Downtown Columbus Ohio looks so much like Moncton NB where we’re located. And the artwork all over the building is the same as well.
When Scott and I go somewhere, the random exploration is the best part.
This was a lot of fun to watch guys :) Like a trip back in time to everything from our childhood. Kids nowadays have no idea how cool those 70’s-80’s toys were.

Man there used to be a local chain of retro stores called Game Craze but they closed like 3 or 4 years ago. And they were as good as the ones you visited. They're greatly missed as now there's no retro stores here in Rochester, NY. I love these videos where you visit videogames stores and show what they've got great. That toy store brought back memories when I had a huge toy collection. But by 1999 I lost my job and had to sell everything really cheap as toy collecting was not what it's today. Good showing and cool video John! Thanks for sharing!👍

When I was in Columbus about a month ago I hit up capital games as well. You would never guess on the outside how deep that store goes. Probably one of the best selections I have seen from a small game store. I was even able to haggle prices with the gentleman working that day and get some good deals. Glad you stumbled across that place while you were in town.

Hey John, thanks for making a video of the Columbus area video game stores. Next time I am in Ohio, I am definitely checking those out. Wow! Capital games had quite a selection. I don't think that I have ever seen a store with that many DS games! Forever Games and Game Depot were no slouches either. As for games with no price on them.......I am not too keen on that either. Every time I ask in that situation I find that the price ends up being too high. You would think that store owners would stop doing that. Wouldn't it be easier to just have the price sticker on the game? When no price is present, not only does it take more time to look it up but it can't be helping their business. Many gamers like yourself don't want to deal with the hassle and just walk out. Anyway, thanks again for sharing. :)

Sadly, Capital Games has a notorious reputation for not pricing things and when you ask for one, they say they have to call the boss. I did this one time and it took about 20 minutes to get a price and it was way over market price. I've also experienced where I took a ps4 game to the counter and they gave me a different case with a coffee ring on it. I didn't realize until I got home, which is an hour away.

Aldi is cheaper, because of the company's philosophy of keeping operating costs as low as possible. It is the same quality like other brands. Just different labels.

Riggs…glad you enjoyed Columbus! Happy to have you in my city! Too bad you had to experience Capital Games. By far the worst. Most of their games are way overpriced or don’t have a price on them at all. Many better stores than Capital 👍

I know a lot of useless information about Aldi. Here goes. Some guy in Germany owned Aldi, and after WW2 he died, and his sons got the company. One son wanted to sell cigarettes, one did not, so they separated the company into two companies with the same name. One brother only ran stores in North Germany, the other in South Germany. They used the same exact logo, but different colors. Then they wanted to expand to other countries, so they agreed that all other countries they expanded to the one that opened stores in that country last would not use the name Aldi. So if one brother opened Aldi stores in any country, then the other brother opened stores, he would have to rename it to something else. So there are several countries Aldi operates in, and both Aldi companies have stores not named Aldi. For example, one brother opened Aldi stores in the U.S., so when the other brother opened stores in the U.S. he could not use the Aldi name, so those stores are named Trader Joes. So basically Aldi is two companies owned and ran by the same family, and both companies have Aldi stores in several countries, but the only country that both have Aldi stores in is Germany. All this because of a dispute over selling cigarettes, and I do not think either Aldi company sells cigarettes today.
