  • In this 2 part episode of DIY Guitar Making, I demonstrate my process for connecting the various purfling miters along the soundboard, the backplate, the backstripe, the side purfling, and the endwedge. Included are several tips for cutting binding channels, installing end wedges, repairing gaps and tearout.

Nice tip on the Tru-Oil to help reduce chip-out when routing. I finish my instruments with UV cure finish. I use it for the same purpose (reduced tear-out) pre routing. I wipe it on then wipe off excess then zap it to cure. An advantage of my UV goop is that it is odor free and cures in minutes. But I have a basement shop. Your windows would let in enough UV to unexpectedly cure my goop…

Putting that added work into attaching the binding/purfling is the difference between a luthier and the lazy builder.

I've been reluctant to use the tape on bearing thing because I worry about the tape coming off the slick bearing or little lumps. Guess I'm over thinking it.
