    Mean Spirit is my favourite book of 2024 so far. I have read it after watching the movie "The killers of the flower moon". The difference between the book and the movie is definitely the focus on the native community. The way they experience the evil closing in on them is written in such a way that made me very emotional. It doesn't discuss only the murders but their eviction of the native land, the killing and mistreatment of animals the stealing of cultural objects, residential schools and the community's reaction to those events.

    (First time commenter, long time watcher :) Just wanted to pop in and say State of Wonder was my first Ann Patchett years ago. I did the audio version read by actress Hope Davis and I absolutely loved it! I highly recommend the audio. (Davis also reads Commonwealth. I wish she narrated more. I will say that Meryl was perfect for Tom Lake.)
    Since SoW, I've pretty much everything Patchett's published. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with Run. I wanted to comment and tell you to try State of Wonder, but never got around to it. I actually don't think I've read anything of hers from before SoW was published. Keep meaning to go back to Bel Canto, since it's similarly geographically set. Very curious to hear what you think if SoW when you get around to it.

    • @SupposedlyFun
      @SupposedlyFun  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for your thoughts. I didn't realize that Hope Davis reads the audio of SoW and Commonwealth. Patchett really does a great job getting audio narrators. A lot of people have shared that they loved SoW, but I still think I may try Commonwealth next.

    And it's pronounced more like "soot" - Kutztown. If you say it like "cut," kutz means vomit. Really
