So this was the short version of The Rocker. The full version has about 3-minutes (ish) of some of the best lead electric guitar in rock. You gotta listen to the full version.
Quite funny seeing this video because it features Gary Moore on the video but the music track is the original album cut with Eric Bell on guitar. No doubt Gary could have given a rippin' version of it too, and did live, once Eric quit. Never seen this before though. Aaaaan now I see, it is the cut off radio edit. Wrong track guys. The album version is several minutes longer featuring an unbelievable solo from Mr. Bell. You should try the extended play original version.
A couple recommendations: "Róisín Dubh (Black Rose)" is about Phil's Irish heritage & Irish folklore, plus it has Gary Moore on guitar. "Got To Give It Up" is heartbreaking, but a very good song about drug & alcohol addiction, no doubt written during a moment of clarity. 🍀🥀
Roisin Dubh (Black Rose) is a must listen. Phils’ supreme frontman performance always kept his excellent bass playing prowess hidden in broad daylight.
The teddy boy Phil is referring to is former Thin Lizzy manager Ted Carroll who ran/owned the Rock On record store in Soho market. A few years later in 1976 The Jam would use the power from Rock On to play an outdoor showcase in Soho market to get themselves some publicity. It did the trick. Interestingly The Jam supported Thin Lizzy in 1975 at The Fulham Greyhound.
Just for some reference info: Back in the 60's in UK you had the Mods and the Rockers. The rockers were the ones that wore leather and rode motorbikes - hence the reference to "I got my cycle outside" in the song. Great song from one of my all time favourite bands, Have all the albums and still play them regularly.
cool track by Thin Lizzy : Bad reputation, Opium trail, fighting my way back, don't believe a word, waiting for an alibi, black rose, Johnny the fox meet jimmy the weed, southbound, massacre, silver dollar, renegade, chinatown, cold sweat, Do anything you want to, Emerald, Showdown...
Please do more Lizzy! they are having a rennaisance curently with critics rediscovering them as one of the greatest bands from the 70's. Every rock magazine is featuring them in the last 12 months. keep up with them
Great to have you back guys, and great reaction to a classic song. Phil Lynott was one of rock's most charismatic frontmen and a tragedy he died so young. I remember going to Ireland as a kid and my auntie telling me that my Irish family was so proud that Phil Lynott had bought my great auntie, Gladys's house in Sutton after she passed on. A true Irish hero in many an eye! Please react to Renegade at some point..definitely his best after The boys are back in town!
The Warrior, Emerald, Still in love with you, China, Don't believe a word, Waiting for an alibi, Cowboy song, Cold sweat, Rosalie (live version...is an old Bob Seger tune)
Lead singer of this band is Phil Lynott and for a time Midge Ure was also a member and co-wrote a track released by Phil on a solo album. The track is Yellow Pearl - known to many in the UK as music used in TV show Top of the Pops and well worth listening to. Gary Moore was also in this band (replaced by Midge Ure when he left just before a tour). Gary Moore also has a solo career, worth checking him out, I suggest the track Over The Hills and far Away
We have had good poets and writers. Us Irish. But will we ever have as great a rock musician band ever. I don't think so. Never say never. But we were blessed with thin lizzy& Phil Lynott.
Super proud of your Irish heritage? I had No idea! I'm roughly 25% & we visited Western Ireland last summer. It was really great. Plan to go back. I'd recommend a trip if u really want to discover some roots. Food (traditional Irish breakfast), buildings older than our country, beautiful countryside & coastlines, nice people in small towns, stuff to see tourist wise, good beer & whiskey, history. Ireland has everything (including a lot of rain). U wldn't be disappointed. We spent some time in (small) city of Limerick, but most of our time smaller towns. Next trip (still in the west) city of Gallway.
Oh yeah , from there 3rd album with original guitarist Eric Bell before he had a mental meltdown on stage and left the band in the middle of there set. That’s why they have 2 lead guitarist in case it happens again
One of my favourite bands of all time - regularly still listen to them - I NEVER tire of Thin Lizzy. There are so many tracks I could recommend, so I’ll name just three essentials (in my opinion): Cold Sweat / Angel Of Death / Sugar Blues / Got To Give It Up / Johnny / Rocky / Frankie Carroll / Sitamoia / A Song For While I’m Away / Black Boys On The Corner / ….sorry, getting carried away…..
Great to see you both back. Don’t know if you’ve reacted to this band but please try the manic street preachers. The song is design for life. They are from wales in the uk. Fantastic band from the 90s.
I'm ecstatic that you guys are digging deeper into Thin Lizzie's catalogue. If you're interested in another, I'd suggest checking out *"Sitimoia".* It, and "Rocker" are two of my fave from these guys. 😊
I have 2 favourites with Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy) - "The Boys Are Back in Town" (which you already did) AND "Parisienne Walkways" - which is a Gary Moore song (BEST when it is the version featuring Phil Lynott in it!). Parisienne Walkways is COMPLETELY different from this song & The Boys Are Back in Town. INSTEAD - Parienne Walkways is VERY "atmospheric". A REAL VIBE! I love it. I am sure that you will as well. I like the version BEST that someone has showing old pictures of Paris for the song, as it really ADDS to the song in my opinion but it is also good to see the performers do their thing, which is in OTHER online versions. All the best.
You're right, Jay! Phil Lynott's voice is unique and full of character. Easily recognizable. Its a tragedy that drug use lead to his earlt demise at age 36. My husband and his friends listened to them regularly (shout out to Jail Break). In fact, every stoner I knew way back when were Thin Lizzy fans. Haha. Great reaction. ❤❤❤
Thin Lizzy is a GREAT live band. They are so many songs that deserve attention. Check out "Angel of Death". Definately an epic tune. Phil's galloping bass is awesome in that song!
Another Irish rock band that doesn't get enough love is Horslips who incorporate traditional Gaelic tunes into their songs. Or as a total contrast there's Clannad.
Guys I've been watching you for a few years and finally subscribed and turned on notifications. I know you have done a few greatful dead songs, but one i would love you to do is US blues. I really think you will enjoy it and I would love to see your reactions. Thanks, Jim
You could literally pick 100 TL songs, they have such a deep catalog of great songs. You can't go wrong with Still in Love With You, Waiting for an Alibi, Black Rose, Soldier of Fortune, Rocky, Emerald, Wild One, Freedom Song, Running Back, etc. I could go on forever.
Thin Lizzy, some high energy rock there! They have said that they were influenced by another British band: Wishbone Ash. You should give a listen to them too. Try "Blowin' Free". Dual lead guitars will blow you away!
Glad to have you back J, hope you are feeling better, hi Amber! Can you guys play band badlands? Please they are bad ass!! tribal moon, soul stealer , highwire, studio versions thank you
GREAT HARDER AND MORE AS GREAT CHINATOWN,KILLER ON THE LOOSE AND ON THE BBC SHOW HERE IN ENGLAND THE OLD GREY WHISTLE TEST DON'T BELIEVE ME SUPERB !!! 🎸🎤🧨
So glad you guys are back and happy and healthy.
I echo that sentiment 100%!
My favorite band. PLEASE do more Thin Lizzy reactions. So many gems.
So this was the short version of The Rocker. The full version has about 3-minutes (ish) of some of the best lead electric guitar in rock. You gotta listen to the full version.
Yeah I was just waiting for the solo to hit and then..AHHH MAN!!!!
Yeah you guys have to listen to the blistering guitar solo from this song!
The solo is the best part too!
Absolute banger, love this band, saw them in 1979👌🏻
Quite funny seeing this video because it features Gary Moore on the video but the music track is the original album cut with Eric Bell on guitar. No doubt Gary could have given a rippin' version of it too, and did live, once Eric quit. Never seen this before though. Aaaaan now I see, it is the cut off radio edit. Wrong track guys. My two favourite songs from my favourite Lizzy album!
Roisin Dubh (Black Rose) is a must listen.
Phils’ supreme frontman performance always kept his excellent bass playing prowess hidden in broad daylight.
One of the best rock songs in history. Love the Irish lore in there and it jams.
"Dear Lord" And "Dedication" ❤
its too bad he didnt take his own advice on got to give it up
Thin Lizzy is definitely one of those bands that are underrated. They rock as much as any rock band if not more 🎉❤
Huge influence on Metallica, Foo Fighters and tons more
Even rock better than AC/DC
The album cut "Johnny" from my favorite TL album Johnny The Fox is a good song and a solid rocker, definitely worth a listen.
Thin Lizzy - Cowboy Song
They already did that one
The most criminally underrated rock band of the 70's IMHO. They could do anything. Rock jazz funk , you name it, they did it. Great band.
jazz ?
I was fortunate enough to see Lizzy three times. The most memorable was Inverness Ice Centre in 1981.
"Rock On Records" was the big record store for 50s rock n roll music in London; Phil mentions Teddy Boys, who were the 50s greasers of England.
UGH - MISS THEM!!! LOVE ME some THIN LIZZY!!! BANGER!!! MIss You, Phil!!! LOVE & HUGS to JAY & AMBER!!! SENDING GREAT VIBES TO YOU-GUYS!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I absolutely LOVE this song! I get serious Hendrix vibes from Phil's cadence in this song, and I love it! Thank you for checking it out!
"Fighting My Way Back" and "Bad Reputation" are Bangers!
🇬🇧
Just listen to that voice, there's NO mistaking Phil's vocals, EVER. ❤🎶🎼👌
Such a favourite of mine since 1973
Shame this is the radio play version and is missing the wonderful guitar solo on the album track.
My fave Lizzy song. I plan to have this played at my funeral 😁
Here comes my 'I can bring Queen into every conversation' - Thin Lizzy opened for Queen for most of the NotW tour in 1977.
Great to see you back, wishing you both the best.
Love this band❤ RIP Phil and Philomena ✌️❤️🙏🙏
Thank you it's been a long time since I heard I'm a rocker. Brilliant, I'm a happy woman.
Thin Lizzy is ALWAYS a jam!!

Next....ROBIN TROWER.....🎉🎉🎉
Bridge Of Sighs.
Please do more Lizzy! they are having a rennaisance curently with critics rediscovering them as one of the greatest bands from the 70's. Every rock magazine is featuring them in the last 12 months. keep up with them
The greatest Irish Band ever !! Phil is a still a legend here in Ireland ❤️🇮🇪
Love this band Love this voice!!! Love his voice!!! Totally Cool!!!
My Thin Lizzy-loving self tapped the notification so fast
Me too
Another great Thin Lizzy song to check out is "Emerald" from 1976's Jailbreak album! It definitely sounds like an influence to Iron Maiden. 🤘
I saw them live in 1980 at the Queens Hall in Leeds England. It was an old tram shed but had some of the all time greats including Jim Hendrix.
"Cowboy Song" live version from "Live and Dangerous".
Great to have you back guys, and great reaction to a classic song. Phil Lynott was one of rock's most charismatic frontmen and a tragedy he died so young. Great to see you guys smiling. And as far as I'm concerned, all Thin Lizzy is good .
so kicked butt! thank you guys for keeping this music alive!
I just caught on that, The Boys Are Back in Town is Thin Lizzy also!! This song makes me want to dance!!
Gary Moore on the video but the great Eric Bell is the one playing the actual guitar here. Look how young they were!!! Fantastic!
The Warrior, Emerald, Still in love with you, China, Don't believe a word, Waiting for an alibi, Cowboy song, Cold sweat, Rosalie (live version...is an old Bob Seger tune)
Classic tune love it! Great to see you guys back, hope your feeling better man 🙂

Oh man! You missed the awesome guitar solo. Dad gum radio edition.
I saw Thin Lizzy open up for UFO in 77 or 78. Two legends.
THIN F-----------------------IN LIZZY!!!
Banger!!!! Never heard this?!?! Very cool!!!!
Lead singer of this band is Phil Lynott and for a time Midge Ure was also a member and co-wrote a track released by Phil on a solo album. The track is Yellow Pearl - known to many in the UK as music used in TV show Top of the Pops and well worth listening to.

We have had good poets and writers. Us Irish. But will we ever have as great a rock musician band ever. I don't think so. Never say never. But we were blessed with thin lizzy& Phil Lynott.
This reminds me of a Steven Tyler commercial from the 1990's where he sings and then goes, "this is beyond easy!"
Super proud of your Irish heritage? I had No idea! I'm roughly 25% & we visited Western Ireland last summer. It was really great. Plan to go back. Theres a lizzy song called showdown about girls , drinking and fighting thats so funky beastie boys sampled it for the song funky boss
AC DC has a song called Rocker you should check out too , there is a great live version here on youtube.
Great to see you both back. Don’t know if you’ve reacted to this band but please try the manic street preachers. The song is design for life. They are from wales in the uk. Fantastic band from the 90s.
I'm ecstatic that you guys are digging deeper into Thin Lizzie's catalogue.

It, and "Rocker" are two of my fave from these guys. 😊
Don't think they have done Emerald either.
I have 2 favourites with Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy) - "The Boys Are Back in Town" (which you already did) AND "Parisienne Walkways" - which is a Gary Moore song (BEST when it is the version featuring Phil Lynott in it!). Surely every man has dreamed of being The Rocker!!
Glad to see you guys back!
The Bob Seger System's Ramblin' Gamblin' Man.
AND A ROLLER too.. BABY!
BAD REPUTATION !

My husband and his friends listened to them regularly (shout out to Jail Break). In fact, every stoner I knew way back when were Thin Lizzy fans. Haha.
Great reaction.
❤❤❤
Brian Downey is one of the greatest Rock Drummers (only recognized by other musicians who are Lizzy fans, generally!) to ever sit behind a kit!! 🤘🤘
I highly recommend Wild One as your next Lizzy reaction!
The live version from the life album 1983 is amazing when all TL guittarists artens the song.
Thin Lizzy is a GREAT live band. They are so many songs that deserve attention. Check out "Angel of Death". Definately an epic tune. Phil's galloping bass is awesome in that song!
My old man worked back stage security back in the days and drank with phil and pissed against a wall whilst chatting to lemmy from motorhead
Im glad u guys back.anyway nice tune 🎶
Another Irish rock band that doesn't get enough love is Horslips who incorporate traditional Gaelic tunes into their songs. Or as a total contrast there's Clannad.
What a song!!!!!!

👍 Full length version is even better with that epic Eric Bell guitar solo.
✌️🤟🤘
Very early Lizzy - the guitar is Garry Moore ... did you try 'Still Got The Blues' yet? You'll be sorry if you missed it!
Hope your doing better Jay. Amber always looks beautiful. 😃
Boy is that early Lizzy!
LOVED PHIL'S PLATFORMS in THIS VIDEO!!! :)
Love these guys!
Thin Lizzy, some high energy rock there! They have said that they were influenced by another British band: Wishbone Ash. You should give a listen to them too. Try "Blowin' Free". Dual lead guitars will blow you away!
Good to see you guys again!
THE BEST!
❤❤❤❤❤❤🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪❤❤❤phil lynott rip , irish legend
So good to my squad!! ❤
It's good to have you back. Leif
Listen to the extended album version of this. Brilliant guitar solo
After that, I vote for Gary Moore and Phil Lynott with 'Out in the Fields'. Ex-Thin Lizzy in the 80s.

Great band! Great song!
I LOVE PHIL LYNOTT ❤
Isn't that a young Gary Moore on guitar?
