@Free Tours by Foot - New York 17:50 For sure. I remember all the huge criticism about Libeskind's design for the "Freedom Tower" ... back in 2002-03 when it was unveiled ... and all the redesigns etc. that followed. Then, when David Childs came with the final design we see today ... much of the righteous criticism and negativity vanished. You now had massive support, for Child's design feeling like a real tower ... and a real tribute to the Twin Towers and the lives that were lost. You know, being really impressive, massive and good-looking.
Nothing like the original design by Libeskind ... that saw the remaining 500 ft. of the building unoccupied ... with trees and gardens and a spire ... while it would only go up 60 stories or so. Now you have One WTC with 104 stories, 200 square ft at the base and 1370 ft tall at its roof and 1776 ft at its spire. So much better and a vast improvement.

Hello from Australia. Excellent walking tour Katie. I was in New York in 2006 when it was still Ground Zero hole in the ground. I kept looking for my most memorable memory of my visit throughout your video and thinking where is it????... Miraculously you covered it right at the end of the video. The old church! It was open in 2006 and I remember reading that despite the collapse of the two Ginormous Twin Towers, not a single pane of glass was broken in the old church. That still sticks in my mind all these years later. Many amazing coincidental things happened to me whilst in New York. Thanks for your excellent walking tour Katie.

I visited the memorial in 2019 just before Covid-19 and it was the most eerie experiences of my life. Even with all the noise, it felt strangely quiet, I know that sounds a bit weird, but the water seemed to drown out the chaos. I will never forget the day I spent here and I feel deeply sorry for the people it impacted so tragically.

    • @TheHansolo426
      @TheHansolo426 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

I also went there and you can hear the silent even in the city that never sleeps. I think it’s the ominous feeling that this is the worst tragedy in American history, where many people died. It’s that void of knowing of what happened it made it even more sad and scary

I remember visiting this. I was only 8 and had little understanding but I was heartbroken about it. I looked at every name and said a prayer for their family’s. I hung over the side admiring the pools. We were there for hours and my parents said I was raised right to pay all that respects. They said it was a little thing from a big heart

Absolutely appreciated, as a native New Yorker currently living in Orlando. Tour was beautifully done. I was born and raised in The Bronx. I was 24 when I saw the towers attacked live on tv and it still breaks my heart at the memories of it. I had been to them many times over the years. As a family, we always made it a part of our tour spots whenever family came to visit us in NYC. Thank you so much for doing and sharing this video. Truly means a lot. Besides the many lives lost and impacted that day, our skyline has never been the same and that’s been heartbreaking to see your home attacked and changed in this way. Virtual hugs. #NeverForgotten #UnitedWeStand or at least many of us still do.

On my way to a job and I heard the word twin tower and I shut the car the car RIGHT OFF at 8:52am est in elmont NY... but I learned a lot later when I called up a customer... My father Ronnie pettigrew... He helped build the foundation for the twin towers I have a pic dated April 1969.

I am so proud to say that the main trade center that was rebuilt is 1,776 feet to comemorate the number of the year of when America declared independence. Good for you NYC!!! Let the pride of this country flow and spread far!
I want to go here and see all of the city again. I came here, well the city, back in 2007....I was 16. They were still in the major process of building the new twin trade center. If I come to this city again to tour, I wlll go to the memorial and all that is featured in this video. This day should NEVER be forgotten. R.I.P

I just want to mention that the priest, Father Judge who the first responders carried out after the first tower collapsed, they went and laid his body on the altar at St. Paul's. I've watched every documentary on 9/11 and that was something that stuck with me. Once again thank you so much

I was there in September 2018 and it wasn't easy seeing all those names on the memorials and knowing that two structures formerly occupied the two sites and it was eerie knowing that about 2,800 innocent people who showed up for work on that Tuesday morning 20 years ago and they lost their lives for no reason. Let's hope we never face such a horrific day ever again.

20+ years later and I still can’t muster up the courage to visit ground zero… i went in June of 2001 with my dad to Tower 1 to drop off some paper work and I remember being so amazed by everything and the tunnels underground that seemed like a hidden mini city.
And then On 9/11 I was in English class when I heard the first plane fly so low over my school I could feel my desk shake and my feet vibrating on the floor. And then we heard the explosion. After that just total caos.

Can you believe me, that I cried almost a year about innocent victims?
Those twins also were very tremendously beautiful, since they had nothing extra-unneccessary construction elements in its architecture. Skyscrapers as they are in its meaning and first association with the word 'skyscraper' appears in my mind - they are.

WOOW...these walking tours are full of history! Thanks for making these; most TH-cam videos is just walking, but I actually love these types of videos where u get to learn about the city and the history of it. It reminds me of my friend (a teacher) who made a city way more interesting when walking inside of it. Thank you.

I went on holiday to new york a few months ago and our hotel was in the financial district. The first thing we went to see was the 9/11 memorial since it was closest to us. Im from the south of England and was born 2 years after 911. I'd never seen a picture of the memorial before so i didn't know what to expect but it was beautiful. The one thing i couldn't get out of my head though was that it was completely flawless. If the memorial was in London id have a hard time believing it wouldnt be covered in piss and graffiti. But all the public had done was put flowers in the names of those who they loved and lost. New york respect and unity is untouched.

Visited the site in 2003, 2010 and 2018. I like the way the US always commemorates victims by not reusing the space for new structures but rather build memorials instead. I noticed the same for instance in Oklahoma city and Pearl Harbor.

    • @mrandrossguy9871

Thank you for videoing this tour!
I’ve only been to NY once and it was a busy Fathers Days Weekend. No parking anywhere. We only got to drive around we didn’t get to stop to visit anywhere except little China and Little Italy.
The 911 memorial pools and museum was 1st on my list along with Central Park, to visit.
I can’t believe it’s been 22 years now since the attack. It feels like yesterday as I watched it live on television.
I was scared even tho I was safe in Ohio. I thought the whole country was under attack and the world as we knew it was over.
It goes to show how unprepared we are for a pandemic and Terroristic attack.
I appreciate the time you’ve taken to give this tour. I’ve learned so much from all the information you’ve given.

I’ve visited the 9/11 memorial in person. It felt… heavy, and I couldn’t help but cry the whole time I was there. I did not suffer any casualties in 9/11, but I just felt all the emotions, the fear, the anger, the sadness, and I felt like the victims were STILL there. My chest was tight and it was hard to breathe. I couldn’t stay there for long I had to leave and I immediately felt better.
The people are still there, no matter how many years pass they will still be there, unable to move on.
