Thank you! That is what I hoped to show here. At the risk of being made fun of. You know I could have read the instructions and edited the video to make myself look like a genius but that wouldn't be real and I will gladly take the bruises to show everyone how it is vs some perfect ego-boosting TH-cam video. Thank you for your comment it helped greatly and I hope my videos somehow help you as well friend.
Ed, I just bought one of these tools. I struggled to put it together and then watched your video. Thanks so much!! However, you didn't get it quite right. Here's what I figured out after watching your video. First you can pull the cam wheel out easily by turning the tool upside down. The cam wheel just falls out. While the cam wheel is out of the tool, take a close look at it. It is two sided. One side is for the grass trimmer attachment. Flip it over and the other side is the cam wheel for the hedge trimmer attachment. When you use the proper cam wheel for its designated attachment, the locking cover goes on very easily. You struggled to replace the locking cover. You need to flip your cam wheel. Best Regards, Niles
Mine did not have instructions in the box and I was hitting a brick wall trying to figure it out. Had no clue you had to flip the cam over. You saved me a lot of aggravation! Thank you!
WOW! Thank you so much for your comment. You have no clue how much flack I have taken for showing my learning curve on this tool. You just made it all worth it! Please feel free to check out my other content and give me a chance to win you as a subscriber.
My friend was using a hedge trimmer and also cut his finger off. It was near a wall and just needed to get this one last little branch. He reached in with his hand and pulled the branch to cut it. The long trimmer hit the wall and bounced at him, cutting one finger really bad. So it something to really think of when you were talking about the size makes it easier to get into those areas.
Thanks for y help man... and people if you don't like his video, move on also you can skip to the bit you want to hear, not rocket science. Be kind cost's nothing...
My wife and I use it and it works well but the blade occasionally sticks. We solve this by pulling the battery off and pushing the inner blade down until they are even and replace the battery and it works well. We love the short blade it allows us to get into places we couldn't before.
Wow, thank you! You know this is one of the most hated videos, I get so much flack for not knowing or editing out the parts showing how I didn't know portions of the tool and how to put it together. I thought there was value in showing we are all human and we make mistakes along the way. I am so glad my video helped you and hopefully others out there. That's all I wanted to accomplish. Thank you!! Cheers!
Thanks for the video: what a nightmare those instructions are! As someone else said, you need to flip the cam when changing between blades. It's not obvious from the instructions. Then to align the blade with the cam, just jiggle the blade a bit with your other hand while your pushing the blade on. When I finally got it to work, it cut beautifully some topiary hedging, but Makita needs to up their game with the instructions...
Thank you for your comment, I get so much hate for this video. Some people think that because you work with tools, you should automatically know how to use every tool that comes out.
Agreed! I believe in this very video it says I would regret not reading the manual. Lesson learned brother. We are all human and screw up from time to time.
Thank you Alan! This is a video I get tons of criticism on for how bad it is. I am so glad it helped you. I made it and left it up to show that unlike those perfect videos where they edit out all the mistakes and look clever that we are all human and have learning curves on different things. Cheers 🍻
LOL!! This is one of my worst videos early in my TH-cam days. The community loves to make fun of me about it, so I keep it up. Some people have found it helpful. No worries though I understand.
Thanks Juanita, no one is perfect and youtube has a deep learning curve. This is one of my earlier videos and many mistakes were made. Take a moment to watch my newer content to see my progression. I leave this video up as the community has fun poking fun at it. Even though I am an engineer I make mistakes and this video absolutely shows that. Have a great day.
Well thanks for the feedback. I am new to TH-cam and learning a lot. TH-cam is designed for longer videos and creators are encouraged to keep videos long. I am still trying to find the perfect balance. If you like short, get to the point videos consider watching TH-cam shorts or go to Tiktok. Many creators are making short videos just for you but please note they may miss some steps as they try to keep things short. Have a good one friend and God bless.
Very next day after buying this piece of Monkey poo I returned it. I returned it to Home Depot and spent $10 more dollars and bought the Makita hedge trimmer and it works like a champ. This one just came off underpowered and it just kept jamming on the smallest of things. You should have just returned this piece of junk and bought the the hedge trimmer with a cover and a good 18" blade. This is by far the 1st product I have truly been disappointed in from Makita making this time consuming piece of junk. I have 7 other Makita tools and love them all.
Seems to me you missed the point. I never used a tool like this. I have the ability to record and edit to make myself look like genius. Tons of that on TH-cam. None of it real. Shill city. No one shows their mistakes or what they don't know. I do, I'm honest with my viewers. If you don't like it move on and find that child that can do better. Have a great day.
Got one of these for my mom. Your video makes me feel better that I, too, had trouble getting it on without reading the instructions.

Sorry for your friend. At the same time I ordered this shear I also ordered a chain mail glove, to hopefully prevent serious injury
Makita: Sorry your warranty is void. ETOTG: Why? Makita: We saw your video.
makita is awesome, I am slowly switching all my other tools for makita. appreciate other brands, but when I try makita, I can't go back
I agree on many levels bro!
Please Jwho put your comments back in. I needed to reload the video.
Thanks for y help man... and people if you don't like his video, move on also you can skip to the bit you want to hear, not rocket science. Be kind cost's nothing...
The plastic cover has a depth Adjustment for your grass
Now "Mrs TheOldTechGuy" can give you a spiffy new haircut for the the first meeting of "The Council".
Thanks for explaining such a difficult process
Thanks
What is the verdict on it as a light duty hedge trimmer, worth having?
My wife and I use it and it works well but the blade occasionally sticks. We solve this by pulling the battery off and pushing the inner blade down until they are even and replace the battery and it works well. We love the short blade it allows us to get into places we couldn't before.
Thank you for the great video! We could not figure out the blade change at all.

I am so glad I was able to help. This video gets so much hate and negative comments. Your feedback makes me feel so much better thank you!
Meanwhile Joe Smith just trimmed 20 bushes with his stihl hs45 trimmers 😁
I have a Stihl too, this is for my wife. She needed something small for the shrubs and small trees in front if our house.
Ed, can you film yourself trimming some hedges? Thanks. PS love the charlie the raccoon joker videos I shared it with my buddies.
Thank you!! I will make some new Charlie the Jokerised cartoon videos coming soon.
Awesome .. saved me hours
Thank you for your comment, I get so much hate for this video. Some people think that because you work with tools, you should automatically know how to use every tool that comes out.
and that's why I like Makita, for its simplicity. 2 hours later, still not fitting . Lol
LOL 😆. Yup, I guess I have some egg on my face. Every manufacturer has some fluff tools that just don't work as advertised.
@@edtheoldtechguy 😀
Kind of painful to watch but glad You came good in the end.
LOL!!! I know, thank you for watching. I was very new to this kind of tool and wanted to show everyone my mistakes and what I learned.
My husband is an Engineer as well and he was really fighting too with that adjustment! Thank you for your help!!!
Thank you so much for your comment! You don't know how much it means to me.
500 subs, bravo, slow clap

Agreed! I believe in this very video it says I would regret not reading the manual. Lesson learned brother. We are all human and screw up from time to time.
it really is not that hard to swap them over.
Thank you for suffering that learning curve so that I don't have to

You made it so much harder than what it’s suppose to be I just got mine and I changed them in 1min
You are awesome! Make a video and show everyone
@@edtheoldtechguy I am planning on doing that it’s a beautiful day so I might have it uploaded in a hour or so so look for that
So who got first?
I wish I'd seen this video before buying it. Changing to the hedge trimmer is an absolute joke.
I changed I once and never changed it back. 🤣
Dude, first you can’t put the trimmer together then your video goes koo koo?
Ahh! I didn’t think you were going to get it...bust out the worthless instructions again! Haha
Thanks for video…Makita’s design and instructions are kind of useless. They should stamp simple instructions on the tool, open with arrow etc.
Glad it helped!
Sorry my friend!!keep going ..really sorry
Turned off after 20 seconds..14 minutés to sit through !!!!
LOL!! This is one of my worst videos early in my TH-cam days. The community loves to make fun of me about it, so I keep it up. Some people have found it helpful. No worries though I understand.

@@edtheoldtechguy Im waiting for that new selection of videos to come out I am interested in results and thoughts!
