I stumbled across this DVD back in the early 2000's from a BestBuy anime section and purchased it based solely on the cover with Akuma, also being a die-hard Street Fighter fan, I wasn't disappointed. The intro was mind-blowing to me. The animation was different but, the story arc is one of the best in the world of SF anime. I had already owed SF2: The Animated Movie but this one had Akuma in it.
I love prequels! They explore unseen backstory and reveals how present and future incidents come about and why.. Everyone is talking about Akuma, but I instead choose to comment on Gouken. As young and ambitious as Gouki used to be, Gouken instead, had chosen to forgo Romance, always be ready to sacrifice and hope for all's best for his loved ones, be it Master Goutetsu, Sayaka, especially Gouki. Gracing himself as a true zen and peace and calm of mind, then only he succeeded in seeking inner peace and an even greater mastery in the art he was trained along with Gouki, so, for me he even surpassed his Master and Brother at handling, modifying, and altering Ansatsuken, thus suppressing mostly, if not completely with absolute control and mindfulness which births a new and formidable art that few could match or even attain in martial mastery, and that is the Art of Nothingness (無) and pureness of thought, wisdom and greater understanding of the universe's energy, rivaling and possibly more poweful than Satsui No Hadou! Beloved and Caring Master of Ryu and Ken, he is selfless and wise in nature. For me, Master Gouken is the real true Warrior of Wisdom and Peace.
