Can growth be called sustainable? Growth always involve consumption of resources so we would have to expand resources to sustain growth and surprise, resources are finite. We may sustain some continued growth temporarily by being more efficient and reusing resources but if you want to maintain growth, we would have to colonize O'Neill Cylinders, Bernal Spheres and Stanford Torus's and access the asteroid belt.

I don't understand why businesses and rich people in California don't put EXTERNAL fire sprinklers on their buildings. It costs around $20k to install, but it will save you from losing everything. It gets activated by infrared cameras on the outside of the building that detect flames. That's what they do in Australia and it works.

California already has water rationing at many times of year, fires happen during drought peaks, .... even if home/business owners turned on sprinklers and water happened to be available to 'feed' the mains, how long do you think it would be before pump pressures dropped drastically trying to keep up? And if fire dept's were trying to access those same water mains to feed their pumper trucks?

While some comments have offered upbeat message to pressure corporates, I want to point out that there is always a way to bypass regulations, which is to move overseas to countries with fewer regulations or a lack of enforcement on those regulations. If anyone wants to condemn such acts, I also want to point out that if they don’t move overseas, those countries can build their own corporates to compete without worrying about climate regulations and have a clear cost advantage, while polluting even more, generating even more warming gas.

Clearly you do not understand the purpose of this second human induced climate crisis that purpose is twofold firstly to pour STUPENDOUS profits into the bank accounts of the powerful capitalists promoting it and to achieve the transfer of political power from the nation state to the U.N, the concept of dangerous global warming was created by the club of rome to use as a profit center (and followed their identical promotion of global cooling) and to use as a political lever to enforce the provisions of agenda 21 which our governments signed us up to at the 1992 rio earth conference, you are quite correct in your analysis of benefit , the strategic geopolitical policy is to transfer economic power and standard of living from the west
to communist china and to replace the U.S as the global hegemon with china, the corporate socialist model in china represents the next stage in the geopolitical agenda of the group, and is intended to be introduced to the west as its economic power is deliberately transferred to china and becomes unable to resist chinas coercive power over time.
Of course china is simply the next nation to be used by the group for its own purposes just as they used britain and then the u.s.
The whole issue is 90% politics and 10% science the science is being misused to support that geopolitical agenda.

Question is how do we shift economies to a different performance indicator? Business must adapt to a different definition of growth, a growth that is not linked to $GDP but instead to increased peace, health (physical and mental), coverage access to basic human needs, oxygen quality, animal species maintenance, forest, water quality, etc. That are so many indicators we could use actually, instead of the one that drives us to a definite disaster in a world with finite resources.

@Elon Mustard Oh dear, sea ice is NOT constant, in summer a large mass melts and in winter it freezes.
Over time as global temperature shifts
from short term warming and then to short term cooling cycles the amount of sea ice mass fluctuates both in summer and winter.
There is NOTHING and i mean NOTHING unusual happening with arctic ice masses, at all.
During longer periods of warming more ice melts especially during the many periods in recent geologic history over the last 11000 years when temperatures were significantly higher than now, during periods of significant cooling more arctic ice forms.
I remind you that we were in a short term cooling cycle from 1940 till the 1970's , arctic ice increased, (so much so that in the 1970's the SAME GROUPS THAT PROMOTE GLOBAL WARMING NOW, wanted TO MELT THE POLAR ICE by sprinkling carbon black dust on it).
I remind you that there are global temperature cycles that run over different time cycles and intensity's,
the long term cycle runs over around 90-100 k years of severe glaciation followed by 8-15 k years of interglacial (the warm period we have been living in for the last 11000 years is an interglacial), (you DO know k=1000 dont you ?, i ask because you do not have much of a grasp on the science).
There are warming and cooling cycles within both glacials and interglacials, these range between 1500 year and 20-40 year cycles, the peak warmings appear to be on the 1500 year cycle and are usually much warmer than now.
attributable to human activities it is certain that at the very least much of the current short term warming is of natural origin.

Businesses are responsible to follow the laws and regulations they operate under and make money under these circumstances. They aren't responsible for climate change if the laws and regulations allow them to pollute and the consumers largely don't care. The action needs to come from regulators and policy makers. For example if there were steep carbon taxes in the locations where these companies operate, then we would see a real change very quickly. Companies shouldn't be put in a position where they can make money but shouldn't because it is morally wrong. Because in a competitive market, such companies will lose to their unethical competitors. There should be laws to force all companies to make the responsible choices. Ultimately the responsibility lies with the policy makes and those who elect them (for example trump voters).

    • @alitiner9967
      @alitiner9967 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@Mr Brightside Government decide. They are the ones that regulate the businesses and the consumers that release greenhouse gasses. The governments of the countries that pollute the most are the ones which are most responsible for the rising temperatures and they are therefore the ones that decide. In democratic countries the governments are chosen by the people so the American voters collectively make the decision on how much they should emit greenhouse gasses.
In autocratic countries like China, Saudi Arabia or Russia, the rulers of the countries decide. China is the biggest polluter currently by a wide margin, so one can say Xi Jinping is the most responsible single person and he makes the biggest portion of this decision for the planet. If he likes it warm, he can keep burning coal and the world will never beat climate change.
But I don't think he or anyone wants that just to enjoy the beach, everyone agrees that on paper that climate change is damaging and should be stopped. But in practice it is always a decision about the political concerns of the deciding politician.

    • @alitiner9967
      @alitiner9967 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@Mr Brightside I think everyone agrees that changing the temperature of the planet is complex, unpredictable and dangerous. I don't think even the Nordic countries want to change the climate. If food can't grow in northern Greenland, then people settled there in appropriate numbers and those people are used to the way things are, besides most northern countries are rich and have small populations. I don't think they would want to risk messing up the world order by climate catastrophe, just for having more farmland. They are rich enough to import all the food they need. Also even if lets say northernmost countries wanted warmer climate, it would be hard for them to argue for it in a diplomatic setting, like the UN, since their small gain would mean a catastrophic loss for many many more people/countries.
I think currently the decision is already taken that we want the world to stay in the climate we are used to (pre-industrial levels or maybe a bit warmer), there could be countries like Russia who may think climate change maybe to their benefit, but I don't think you will hear them voice such opinions as that would be a huge diplomatic mistake. But agreeing on this does't mean it will get done, that is the big issue. Most politicians have interests that doesn't align with action on climate change. For example Australia, where the ruling conservatives support the coal industry and when they are asked internationally to do something about this, they simply deflect the questions. This is also because the international organisations and agreements like Paris lack any enforcement or encouragement mechanism, they simply rely on shaming the guilty, which is very ineffective to say the least. Sorry for going on so long :)

Oh and by the way GET IT RIGHT a carbon tax has nothing to do with Co2 they are totally different things, carbon is an element and a solid at room temperature Co2 is a compound and a colourless odourless tastless gas at room temperature.
Co2 is NOT the target of these policys YOU and your family is the target, Co2 is simply the most convenient mechanism to use to attack your existence, thats the real agenda this whole global warming crisis is a propaganda exercise produced and promoted through the U.N by The Club of Rome, who are the epitome of elitist globalist capitalists, they are malthusians, racists, and seek to create a high tech neo feudal society with themselves in the position of overlords.
Humans DO NOT CAUSE CLIMATE CHANGE climate is constantly changing over time its a natural earth process as is global cooling and warming (we are probably adding some warming to the natural warming cycle but no one knows how much or how little) thats the reality, looking at the paleoclimate data covering the last 10000 years its clear that nothing is happening with global temperature or climate that is in any way unusual at all, in fact it has been much hotter several times in the last 3000+ years alone, as far as speed of temperature change a high resolution ice core series from europe published last year covering the last 800 years shows temperature shifts of up to 2.3 deg C within a decade, our current shifts are slow and mild compared to our recent past.

Lets say temp rose 2 deg c , SO WHAT, it has risen that much several times over the last 3000 + years, the whole 2 deg c thing is simply propaganda, that was admitted by the professor at the potsdam institute who quoted it, the IPCC wanted a propaganda figure they could use in press releases , there was and is no such figure so under pressure the professor simply plucked 2 deg c OUT OF THIN AIR, there is NO scientific basis to that figure at all as he admitted in the interview.
This is just simply selling you soap powder metaphorically, looking at the paleoclimate data its clear that there is NOTHING happening with temperature or climate that is in any way unusual, in fact our temperature movements are slow and mild compared with the last 800 years where we had temperature movements of 2.3 deg C in around a decade, this we know from a high resolution ice core series from europe covering the last 800 years.
This planet benefits from higher levels of Co2 and suffers under lower levels of Co2 we could have 1200 ppm atmospheric Co2 without much of an additional temperature increase its warming effect is limited and logarithmic, the higher the level of Co2 the smaller the additional temperature increase, there is a saturation limit, this is why we have had 5000-8000 ppm atmospheric Co2 levels and ice ages.
They dont like to talk about this but Co2 is not the main mechanism of the AGW hypothesis, that mechanism is water vapor , because Co2 just cant warm much, however the AGW (water vapor) hypothesis was empirically tested by high accuracy temperature measurements over a period of decades (well over a million times) by radiosondes operating in the equatorial troposphere.
The AGW hypothesis is that a water vapor feedback loop will cause dangerous atmospheric warming and that this will be proven by the development of unusual equatorial tropospheric warming a HOT SPOT in fact.
The hypothesis has been accurately put to the test and has FAILED the hot spot should have reached a temperature anomoly of + .6 Deg C a decade ago however no hot spot has appeared and in fact there has been a slight cooling, sensitivity is LOW the AGW hypothesis is dis proven , we are heading for NO climate emergency, and this has been clear for ten years, so ask yourself why did i not know that ?.
The answer is that it is not in the interests of the promoters of a climate crisis that you should know and so it is NEVER mentioned on most media.
Climate is simply mechanism to get the general public in the west to pour stupendous profits into the pockets of the originators of the climate crisis concept ( The Club of Rome) and to achieve a shift from the nation state to a supranational corporate socialist control.
This is why China is allowed to grow its economy using coal so that it becomes the greatest of worlds powers over time and simultaneously the U.S and the west in general has their economys sabotaged using the excuse of climate so that they cannot resist chinas growing world control over the next fifty years or so.
This is simply the practical application of the agenda 21 agreement that the nations of the world signed up to at the rio earth conference in 1992.
What china is now is the planned next step for all of our nations in the future and is just another milestone in the plan.

On the bit about replacing aircraft fuels with Hydrogen burning, if this is intended to be done at altitude, in Stratosphere, there could be an additional problem. When burned with Oxygen, the byproduct is water. Injecting water into the Stratosphere is probably not a great thing. Water vapor is as powerful a greenhouse gas as Carbon Dioxide. Inserting excess water crystals into the Stratosphere hasn't been studied either, I think.
Indeed, every unit of warming has two major parts: One is Carbon Dioxide. The second is warming from excess water vapor, because as atmosphere warms, it holds more water vapor and that warms things more. The oscillation damps out.

The fundamental premise that it is businesses fault and that business will need to address the problem is false. Manufacturing of carbon intense industries has been outsourced to China, and they have been building about 70 new coal fire plants a year for the last 20 years. Almost all increases to carbon in the atmosphere can be attributed to this single fact. The United States has been slowly closing its coal fire plants and shipping industry such as steel production to China. The problem is not Western businesses, but China's industrialization and building coal fire plants. The real issue in coming decades is not Western businesses, but rather the developing world like India, Asia, and Africa. If they all go by the China model and develop coal fire plants, there will be little the Western world can do to combat climate change.

    • @peterjones4180
      @peterjones4180 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Climate change is NOT what you are really discussing , that is the anthropogenic global warming hypothesis, this was tested by empirical measurement for decades and falsified ten years ago, the hypothesis is wrong and demonstrated to be so conclusively, so why are we still worrying about a crisis we know is not coming.
The real agenda is clear its the transfer of manufacturing to China and the building for them of an economy so powerful that it will easily dominate and control the economies of the west while at the same time weakening those same western economies by that transfer and making it easy for China to dominate them with the active assistance of the multinational corporations associated with the group (Rockefellers, Soros etc).
The effects you describe are NOT accidental they are the result of over 120 years of internationally coordinated national and geopolitical manipulationto achieve an agenda decided on back in the 1890's.

If we want to significantly reduce C02 emissions then we need to significantly increase and modernize our nuclear reactors. Nuclear energy is the safest, cleanest, and most efficient method for generating power that currently exists. It is far safer than processing and burning fossil fuels. Current Generation III reactors are very safe with an extremely low chance of meltdown. Generation IV reactors are safer still, produce significantly less waste and the waste they do produce is safer. If we engaged in a large scale expansion and development program we could reduce global C02 emission by 75% in under 20 years!

    We need *right to repair!!*
Don't know what that is? Search 'right to repair' and learn about it now. Hold companies like Apple to account.
I know that's just one issue, but it's a growing problem that needs action today, for the sake of your right to own your possessions and for the sake of the environment.

@Mr Brightside I agree - as soon as something electrical goes wrong it's not financially economical to repair the vehicle because of how awkward it is to find and fix electrical faults.
So many mechanically and structurally sound vehicles going to waste...

Tell me how water levels will rise if the ice caps melt? Legitimate question.
My glass of water with ice doesn’t overflow when the ice melts.

That analogy is fine when talking about the Arctic ice cap (a frozen ocean). But Greenland and the Antarctica are islands/continents with ice sitting on land.

    • @fierrect6089

The ice on Antarctica is on land, when it melts it will flow into the ocean

It is coming though. Since I'm from Sweden I know we are investing a lot in to our iron and steel production, since it's hugely important for our economy, to make it carbon neutral. The biggest thing for steel is to us hydrogen and not coal in the process. I'm super excited since I'm on my way to become a chemical engineer and these things like innovating new green methods of production is exactly what I'm going to help with.
