Old Library Sounds | Rain , Thunderstorm and Howling Wind Ambience | 3 Hours

- Cold and raging thunderstorm were muted by the bright, warm and peaceful ambience of the old library into a muttering cry. Lots of pumpkin scented candles - masking the musty smell of the oak floors - were scattered around like stars in every corner, on window sills and footstools, basking the room in a dim orangey glow and fluttering shadows. Intricate spider webs decorated the cracked pine wood shelves and the mouldy roof. The shelves, some tilting and unaligned, were strained by the weight of the thick books. Thin layer of dust covered the flowery letters on each spine. Flipping the hardcovers open would present characters of a language long forgotten, magical words that would drift up as whispers. The hushed slow voices overpowers the rain rattling against the icy windows, beckoning to be heard. Causing the imagination to run wild, to worlds far beyond the comfort of known human reality.

We are part of a small subset of people who love old buildings, libraries, antique things, gloomy skies, and dark stormy nights.
...and the smell of an antique shop on a rainy day. Pure magic.
It's refreshing to see so many like-minded people enjoying similar things. Most people just look at me weird when I tell them I love gloomy weather.
I know! My girlfriend doesn't get it, not really, but my sister and I are just like this.

I like this one the best of all of this genre, because nothing is overpowering. The rain sound is muted, the thunder far away, the crackling of fire present but not dominating, but most of all - there is someone there. I hear the click of a footstep, the rustle of pages turning, sometimes the scratch of a pen writing, and every now then occasionally the gurgle of water pouring a hot drink. More than anything, it makes me feel that with one or two steps, I can walk in there and shut the door on the world.
I wish i can be there and shut the door down on the world. i couldnt agree more.
The fact it feels like someone is with you is what entrances me. I need more like this.

Sounds like an old sanctuary for books of all kinds, mysteries, adventures, fantasy, grimores of spells. I feel like the sound belongs to a time with no social media, when the fresh cold of the night keeps you awake, but kept away by the fireplace and the only thing that exists are words between the pages in a lovely, peaceful night.

Sometimes I wish we didn't have social media. Maybe people would interact alot more irl and alot more people wouldn't be alone. Those are just my thoughts though.
My favorite so far. What makes this one of the best ambience videos is that the rain/storm and/or fireplace does not overtake the other sounds in the room. I love the sounds of someone writing, flipping pages, moving about, and working. It's like someone staying up in the library with me while I nap on a cozy chair.

My daughter gave me a candle called Bookstore, a blend of mahogany, leather, and coffee. It's a perfect accompaniment!
@@zigginzag584 Its not as if people underwent diagnostics for lung cancer many years ago. Instead what lurked around involved tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases. It wasnt pleasant.

Oh now this is really good.... I love libraries and I particularly like little secluded corners or cozy aisles that maybe aren't frequented much, with older books in them. The audio on this one really has nice nuance and balance! Great work, thank you!

I would probably curl up by the fire, with a novel that tells of dragons, heroes and knights. I would sip at mint tea as I turn over each page. As I get deeper and deeper into the book, only a loud crack of thunder would tear me from the pages.

I can only get that if I imagine it as some sort of absolute behemoth of a ship. Like some alternate reality/timeline/world where they were able to build something like that back then. Maybe a combination of engineering/physics and magic.

i love the deep sound tones in it. The dull roar of the thunder ,and the rain isn't like nails down a chalk board but a perfect premium blend of how rain does sound just harmonizes perfectly with all other surrounding ambient activities... it massages the ears and soul
Am I the only one that loves the sensation when. You want into a library and the smell of book hits your face.
The golds & browns in these classic libraries are so cosy and calming. It makes you want to pick up a book and read it right there in the ambience of that very environment.
it really helped me relax and concentrate while working. no distractions, no flipping through playlists trying to find the perfect song. just peacefulness. it almost felt like i was really there

I found a cheap effective cheat book shelf wallpaper feature wall, real book shelf against it with your own fave books, few electric candles so it doesn't end in tears jobs a gooden.I sit regularly now in my own creation quaffing sherry bathed in marijuana fumes and I'm deeply contented .Hope this helps.

Get older books. They smell more booky
the booky smell is best achieved using old hardback books from libraries or used bookshops. candles are also useful in creating the atmosphere

@@unknownorigin7433 I think you meant that light exposure affects melatonin production and the ability to fall asleep. Bright light filters thru the eyes influencing the pineal gland which affects melatonin production. Melatonin is released as darkness occurs. Melatonin is suppressed by exposure of eyes to bright light. As such dim the screen brightness. If the screen has a blue light filter, use it.

Also the Chained Library at Hereford Cathedral, the oldest subscription library in the UK - the Leeds Library (1768), the oldest private library in Scotland - Leighton Library (1687), Chetham's Library in Manchester, where btw Karl Marx started writing The Communist Manifesto (1653), The London Library (1841), The Signet Library Edinburgh (1822), John Rylands Library Manchester (1900), Gladstone's Library, North Wales (1902).
Then there are libraries in stately homes (many of which can be visited), some of the best are Knole House (1455), Houghton Hall (library 1720s), Blickling Hall (1616, library created 1740s), Alnwick Castle (1096, later library), Traquair House, Scotland (1500s, library 1700s).
Just a small selection, there are many more!

I find it really relaxing when I hear the background of a distant thunder storm...but also with the sounds of books being used...or writing in the video.
The rain and fire crackling have an almost soft sound, like what you'd hear cuddled up in fluffy pillows and a cozy blanket. Just perfect.
I like having this in the background while staying home in this dark time. So, while I work, I hear the soothing sounds of this warm and comfortable library, safe from danger, my own space, where I am in control!
This comment is underrated, because it speaks of a self assure "ritual" that is very common between us all in times like this.
While I do enjoy a good snuggle in the library, I also like to destroy authoritarian governments.
I would look for the most ancient book and be hypnotized by it's wisdom. The peaceful sounds of the storm would entrance me as I sip on my best wine and consume every nuance in the room...

This is one of my favorite ambient themes. Soft rain & thunder, with the sound of turning books gets one in the mood for a good read!
You know what I hate about these high quality ambient videos? I can get so sucked into them, leaving them on loop, not wanting to listen to anything else or go anywhere else, all the while imagining what else may be there in that place. I love it. So many details, must have taken quite a while to put together. Excellent work and I thank you.

I once had a dream where I was in this massive old Oxford style library at night. It had a very interesting design, because there was a raised floor in the center where there were tables and armchairs for reading and studying . High above were skylights on which rain was pattering, and dim, yellowish lamplight shone from behind shelves and in old dusty corners. Ahhhh, I wish I didn't wake up

I think what I like most about this particular video is how close everything is. Sometimes the view is a large shot of a whole room but I like how this one is just located in a cozy little nook, tucked between the last bookshelf and wall. It feels close and warm.

I can’t express my joy at finding other people out there who do these kind of things. Usually people just think I’m strange, there’s nothing like reading a good book by candlelight to sounds like these feeling as if you were doing so centuries ago.
