Angus might not have been very funny on his own, but pairing him up with those two makes him pretty good. Especially considering he seems to enjoy paul attacking him.
Thank you for posting this. Loved it. Does anyone know where I can find more early British panel shows to watch or download. I already have all of QI and I check reddit/panel show often. Stephen Fry was excellent as always. I had to look twice to recognize Frank Skinner and it's the earliest Sandi Toksvig I've seen.
I know it's the 90's fashion and all, but between the big bulging suit jackets that look ill fitting, and how everyone is so young it seems like a bunch of kids are playing pretend. Or maybe it is "CBeeBies: Hignfy " ? Thanks for the upload!
No, I uploaded a bunch of these awhile back, including series 4. The others were all blocked ‘cause of copyright restrictions. Series 4 was the only one that survived until I reuploaded the others a few years later :)
Every time I watch this it shocks me how Steven Fry could be so foolish with his final line. They don’t know how many programs in the series will be drawn. You want the total number minus any draws to be odd, but you have no idea how many draws there will be. If you had 11 programs and 1 or 3 were drawn (just as likely as none or 2 surely) then you are back where you started. Maybe you could do some research on the likely percentage chance of most likely number of draws across a series but with so many (10 +) it isn’t going to be very unlikely to have any, which would be the only configuration where an even number is very slanted towards statistically. Maybe an odd number favours but it’s by no means guarantees against an overall draw.
I have always found Paul's hating on Angus tedious. An occasional jab would have been fine but the years and years of them just got tedious. You know, you have a job that you get paid nicely for and I'm sorry you don't like one of your co-workers but suck it up. (grumble)
Paul and Ian worked very hard to get Angus fired. Which in a way backfired for them because the BBC had to hold them to the same standards they insisted for Angus. Did what Angus did affect his on-camera work? Not that I could tell, but my opinion didn't count.
I think if you read press/see interviews of the time you might have a different impression. I think it might be in some sort of anniversary documentary as well? I seem to remember Paul being pretty blunt about it. My memory is a bit foggy now (you'll notice the original comment is from over a decade ago). Anyway, if you're interested, it might be a google rabbit hole to go down.@@danyoutube7491
They disliked him in a good humoured way. None of their attacks were malicious or ill tempered. Although he did genuinely annoy both captains with his show business shtick to hear them interviewed now
This is what I can't quite grasp about 'Christians'; here we have Hislop a devout Catholic who goes to church on a Sunday and kneels down before God yet rejoices about the death of Maxwell. Very strange religion.
How many people have died in the name of god and how many wars have started because my god has a bigger dick than your god bollox, no place for a fairytale in modern life
Lovely to see Stephen Fry, always.
Wonderful memories. Even nostalgia was better in the early 90s.
I can't help but remark on how similar Griff Rhys Jones and John Sessions look.
John Sessions R.I.P. (sadly missed)
"If I were Paul I'd get a point for that." lol, it's true.
Better than no season 4 but the sound is extremely variable from clip to clip. Thanks for what we did get. :)
Peter Cook & Douglas Adams on the same episode, madness.
Most interesting about the old ones is seeing Ian with hair
Just barely! Lol

10 years later after your comment and I still can't get over Paul denying him the autocue line.
Wow, Frank Skinner in 1992. Bizarre.
Thanks for uploading
Thanks for posting.
A young Sand Toksvig. Wow.
David Adair She was originally in the running to host the show but Angus was given the job. It was sexism......obviously.
I had the same response to seeing her in the Series 2 (I think it was 2) highlights.
@@neilmartin3220 why is that obvious?
Oh John Sessions! A rare sight
The "I Wouldn't Want One Of Them Swimming Up Me Arse" and "The Brown Suit" series.
One does lead to the other.
Weird seeing how young everyone is, then suddenly scary realising it's been 20 years (:-o
Weird seeing how young everyone in this comment is, then suddenly scary realising it's been 7 years (:-o
And now it's been 30+ years!
So much funnier than it is now.
Plus enjoy the banter between Ian and Paul much more.
vica vox can't expect much in season 50
Thank you, thank you for uploading this!! I had forgotten how funny it used to be.
Oh for the full episode with Peter Cook and Douglas Adams
th-cam.com/video/8_ieICHDNXA/w-d-xo.html
It's there if you want it.
its not allowed in the UK because of copyright
16:44 Because it's stuck in the bathtub, Paul.
Stephen Fry absolute genius
I like the bit with Neil Kinnock, he was good.

+Kawiturbo750 Sandi also appeared in the first episode. I believe she was also in the first episode of Whose Line.

TheVillon77 the current defence minister Still looks like that lol
watching these early series it really is striking how much Paul Merton seems to genuinely hate Angus
90s - 00s British comedy was all about comedians tearing into each other
In 4x09 was that Douglas Adams?
ArcaneNH i imagine u have an answer but yes
Aww Douglas Adams :(
I love Griff Rhys-Jones, shame he's never on anything anymore
He was on WILTY not too long ago
Wilburious Think you meant to say: ‘Shame he ain’t never on nothing no more.’
HISTORY IS COOL!!!
i recognise you from rhlstp
kneazle3603 another site of unabridged pleasure. cheers!
any chance of uploading the entire series?
I don't think I remembered just how much Paul openly disliked Angus right from the off.
Deyton look like he's got the Pee-Wee Herman dickie bow.
3:20 that goat ate my homework!!
17:25: Robert Smith from The Cure let himself go.
14:15 is that that american bird? she looks different some how.
It's Sandi Tosveg who isn't from the USA.
@@simonkevnorris I think maybe it is.
Just as funny then as it is now, wonderful.
17:25 - Cher's let himself go.
Did you make series 4 first way before series 1?
No, I uploaded a bunch of these awhile back, including series 4. The others were all blocked ‘cause of copyright restrictions. Series 4 was the only one that survived until I reuploaded the others a few years later :)
its better if you normalise volumes of clips
Wow yeah that's definitely him. :)
Funny how someone always types, “Paul doesn’t like Angus” in the comments like it has some great impact on their life.
ian hislop is kinda cute
'Suddenly getting an erection by the Hobnobs'... one of Merton's greatest moments

Kinnock to Cook all class

John Sessions? Holy shit!
Cookie :)xx RIP
9:25 I'd celebrate that
Please bring back Angus Dayton, no one else is quite like him
8:09 if they'd both done their hair the same way....
New president Clinton. Wow

I didn't get the impression that he disliked him, it was just humour.

Done.
Ahh, pre Brexit/Trump British panel shows, just great
Christ, they actually had Neil Kinnock on!? Oh the declining quality of guests since then... you’d never get Ed Miliband on these days.
but they did get Ed Balls.
Best bit 29:16
Cher under a Jo Brand in her crap Rob Smith phase. An insult to Cher.
Merton is s vicious prat

Very much Church of England.

He’s not a Catholic
Not as good since Angus left. Murton not as funny as her thinks.
Love them all . Do you think Paul was sooo hard on Angus cause he was jealous ?
