The Best Strategy for New Traders

  • It is very normal for new traders to get overwhelmed by all the information available on the internet and in books. What actually is the best strategy to use when you are just getting started in the stock market and want to learn? I've been coaching traders since 2013 and through this time I've seen many of the most common mistakes pop up time and time again. Because of this and a newer area of the financial markets, I now recommend a strategy that truly makes the most sense for a new trader. This strategy will allow you to completely avoid the dreaded pattern day trader rule (PDT) and will allow you to risk only minimal amounts of money. Assuming you want to learn how to trade properly and not just "get rich quick", then let me show you a strategy that I would highly recommend you use when you are getting started and want to learn how to trade in a consistent and profitable way.

I’ve been trading equities for about 6 years. I started trading futures and I prefer it. There’s no big 10 thousand dollar wins but if your patience and consistence you can make good money.

Hey Clay, thanks for the video. I'm going to check out your futures class, but first I have a question. What apps would you recommend for this beginner strategy? I only just made my first ever couple of trades this week using Robinhood, and I wonder what you think about it. I don't think it's realistic to think I would ever go full time day trading, I'm just thinking of a secondary source of income at this point. I just don't want to be wasting my time with an app if it's ultimately not going to be suitable to my needs.
    Thanks.

I day trade with TOS using a cash account and trade one stock at a time. Doable now with zero trading fees. With a couple thousand in your cash account, there’s no PDT to contend with and enough money to trade every day. Just don’t overdo it. I watch a lot of videos and try to develop a new trading strategy.

Hey Clay, first of all i want to thank you for the amount of information you give on your videos. Like learning new stuff as well as wachting you trade and what your strategy is. I'm now interested in daytrading and wanted to start with a demo account. Like you said, i want to start low ($500), so the micro futures is the choice for me. Then i chose a charts/broker. And since yesterday i started daytrading. I set some rules for myself, as in, max trades per day, max hours per day, daily profit max, stoploss, and so on. Now i want to do this for a period of time to see if im consistent. If i am, then i will start with real money. If i gained enough money (like 5 or 6 thousand), then i would go and join up to your classes. What do you think?

@@claytrader Street Smart Edge is the trade software Charles Schwab uses. I have both, a cash account and an IRA account with them for over 10 years now. My cash account is pretty small, and it is the one I use for my daytrade. There is 0 commissions. I trade every single day ( no PDT rule ) The only thing they do is that they hold the amount of money I trade + my profits for two days. After that it settles and it becomes available again. Cash accounts like mine do not have to abide by the PDT rule with Schwab. Sorry to burst your bubble.
