    Phil's a great rock guitarist, but his physical fitness is also amazing. Makes many of the 20 something players look old.

      Yes, Fender owns Jackson and other companies

    • @williambroadstreet3353
      @williambroadstreet3353 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, as above comment noted Fender own Jackson, so no issue. Phil was once of the very first major guitarists who met Grover Jackson, became very god mates with him, and was again one of the very first 'big' gets for Jackson as he signed with Jackson in/around 1986. I really liked his Ibanez 'Destroyer', it had 3 pink pick ups on it at one stage, and I have no idea what happened to it, the guitar was the first one he used when he joined the band. The 'new' Jackson designed take on the 'Destroyer' is no where near the original, even the design is slightly different. Phil's stayed loyal to Jackson. "The Riffmaster" also used Strats/Teles in the studio.

    i saw a photo of him a few weeks ago with a jackson tele. it was butterscotch even had a black guard. he also has a jackson destroyer identical to the ibanez one.

    • @gkol69
      @gkol69 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Jackson X-stroyer (as it's called) is not identical to the Ibanez DT-555. If you look closely you'll see that the "thunder" - like cut on the back near the strap button is reverse, as the little "twist" near the end of the lower horn under your playing hand is under the horn on the Ibanez vs. over on the Jackson. Also, the lower horn is more pointy on the Jackson, on the Ibanez is rounder and fatter at the end.

    1978 stratocaster made in japan?? how did this get pass fender? first japan stratocaster 1982.

    • @redrocker1055
      @redrocker1055 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      82 is when the collaboration with Fender and Shokai and Gakki "officially" began. Fender had been having guitars made in Japan for years before that going so far as putting made in the USA markings on Japanese made instruments. Can't say I blame them During the time the Japanese were making way better guitars than America was for far cheaper. Fender spent a long time denying it but they don't seem to care anymore. Besides it was different ownership.

    I'm surprised he didn't mention the string gauge he uses, I'm pretty sure they're like 11's or 12's in standard tuning. He must have a vice like grip

      Chopper T is for Telecaster. Probably a Fast Track 2 in the bridge, the closest to a Super Distortion humbucker in single coil size, Phil's favorite pickup, and Fast Track 1 in middle and neck...

    • @gkol69
      @gkol69 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +BCCGamers S There's no such thing as Chopper 3 and Super Distortion and Super 3 are full humbuckers, not single coil size like in this guitar.
      You don't know anything about pickups and you haven't read my reply at all. I wrote about Fast Track 2. If you don't know what this is go to Dimarzio web site and find out

      Phil is one of my favorite guitarists...I know in the Hysteria era he used either a Dimarzio super distortion or a super 3....I believe you are right about Felix( The guitar in this video) ..You can buy a prewired pickguard with a fast track2 in the bridge & a fast track 1 in the middle & neck.

    Phil Collen is a great entertainer and Def Leppard is a great band but I have to say, Phil is not exactly a good guitarist. He shows off the same "shred lick" in all of his demo videos if you noticed. Also, his right hand is picking faster than his left. Lock it up my friend. He's a cool dude tho. IMO, Vivian Campbell is a much better guitarist in terms of technique. He's just keeping it low enjoying his role as a second guitarist:)

      @spudvader 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Fender Japan is some of the best, if not the best Fenders you can buy. The build quality is second to none but I must admit some of the parts they use can be a bit iffy on the guitars for the western market. It's the guitars that are made for the Japanese market that you can get imported, they are pretty special and some of the guitars they make are cool as... If they were made in America, they would be special run and would cost top dollar. You should check out Ishibashi.co.jp (best use google translate) to see some cool Fenders

    • @RastaSaiyaman
      @RastaSaiyaman 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Actually, it is NOT a Japanese strat because Fender Japan was founded in 1983 and thus didn't exist in 1978 and when they zoom in on the headstock you can just make out the serial number underneath the Fender logo. Japanese Fenders JV 72 reissues DO NOT have the serial number there, they have them on the neckplate.
      So nope Phil, your Fender is a USA-made one.

      Actually, Fender had some of their guitars more cheaply made in Japan. Even though there was no Fender Japan at that time, guitars were contracted out much like they are now. I know. I bought one for one of my students. The only problem with the Japanese strats is that the pickups were not quite right. Fender Japan came about as a split from Fender USA. The two companies have nothing to do with each other. The Japanese do not honor our USA copyrights. If you have gone to any of the vintage guitar shows you will see Japanese buyers buying up any vintage strat or LP. They sell them for ridiculous amounts in Japan. Also, if you buy a vintage Fender Japanese "history" book you will see that they have documented all kinds of info about US vintage instruments.

      vrdyer So, why does my Chinese made Fender Tele Players, feel, look and play better than my US Fender Deluxe Tele.
      Its a fraction of the cost and yet, to me, and I have a pretty good ear etc... they are comparable
      Did I just get lucky with the tone woods and the manufacturing of this particular Chinese plant Fender Tele, or, is it that the differences now are negligible and its all about slave labor in China?
