420% increase in prizepool in just ten years is absolutely off the charts. I honestly didn't know he was building himself up in his young years for baseball. I can't imagine what the sports world would look like if he had done baseball instead of golf. I'm sure Tiger would've been great, but in baseball you get judged really weirdly since your success depends so much on eight other people around you. In golf, if you're better than everybody else, you win. And boy did he win.
long before tiger's pga tour debut, the winner's share of the prize money was as low as 5-figures. now, some tournaments net winners as much as 2M-plus. e.g. 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational Bryson DeChambeau (1st) 2.7M Lee Westwood (2nd): 1.6M; 2021 PGA Championship: Phil Mickelson (1st): 2.16M Brooks Koepka & Luis Oosthuizen (T-2nd): 1.056M; 2018 TOUR Championship Tiger Woods (1st): 1.62M Billy Horschel (2nd): 972k; 2019 Masters Tiger Woods (1st): 2.07M Johnson, Schauffele, Koepka (T-2nd): 858,667k Tiger revolutionized the sport, and the prize money shot thru the roof since his debut in 1996. greats like the golden bear, the king, the great hawk made their impact on the game of golf, setting the stage for tiger, which made the biggest impact on the game... his feats like completing his first career grand slam at just 24 years old at the 2000 open at St Andrews (he finished with -19 while thomas bjorn and ernie els finished 8 shots back at -11),winning two-thirds of his 15 majors in his 20s, and the non-calendar grand slam may never be duplicated (only his son charle has any hope of achieving pga's first ever calendar grand-slam (winning all 4 majors in the same calendar year... the apple doesn't fall far from the tree). if anyone can best tiger's accolades, it's his son charlie. whether or not we'll see a golfer reach the century mark in wins remains to be seen.

It's a little thing by Tiger's standards, but all you need to do is look at the fact that Tiger not only built a public course nicer than most private country clubs could dream of, but he named it after Payne Stewart. He's human and he's made his fair share of mistakes. Don't EVER say he doesn't have class and respect. He's clearly tried everyday to represent the game of golf with honor and the historic aspect of it being a "gentleman's" game. He's truly a gentleman and has my utmost respect. He changed the game in all the RIGHT ways. Totally unrelated... but as pertains to my username, here's a pretty unknown fact about Tiger. In the early 2000's Tiger was invited to Australia to take part in a Celebrity Pro/Am dirt track auto race. He spanked everyone including the pro drivers. Kicked their butts all night long. It was an absolute thing of BEAUTY!
YES, Tiger did inspire my interest in golf, including recreational playing, until my BACK stopped co-operating. I found out that I have an in-born spinal disability coupled with osteoarthritis in my whole skeleton. Having enjoyed playing golf while I was ok, I now love watching it on the course and TV. TW was/is the root of this interest for me. I am 70 years young. Thanks brother and would love for you to lift another trophy in 2023🙏👏
13:28 - Justin Rose is an absolutely dominant player. He's also such a gentleman for giving Tiger so much credit. Rose is legit one of my favorite players on tour because of this attitude. Golf is a gentleman's game, and Rose is one of the last of that old guard.
The first time seeing Tiger was when his dad was a guest on Johnny Carson. Johnny talked to Earl Woods about his career and life, but said what he will be remembered for was teaching his son Tiger the game of golf. Earl asked Johnny to draw circles on a white canvas stage background at all various heights the size of a softball/a couple size of tennis ball. They introduced Tiger, he came out, a 4 or 5 year old cute kid with his own golf clubs. They colored the golfballs in paints and told Tiger to hit the circles. I watched him hit each one bullseye, except one was half in- half out of the circle, my eyes bugged out knowing I was watching someone that will be a golf legend in the making. Years went by, one weekend flipping channels, I hesitated on golf tournament that happened to have a few amateurs, one a remarkable amateur. I seen him before, he looked kinda familiar. Then with some commentators about this amateur, it all fell in place, this is the kid from the Johnny Carson show 12+ years gone by. I was hooked, caught every moment my work would allow. Even got my mom to watch him when I had to work to keep me filled in. Remarkable athlete. Earl will be remembered for the game he taught his son.
Loved Tiger - fav golfer (apart from Greg Norman because I’m an Aussie) by far. Went off him when he lost his mind and his marriage because he couldn’t control himself. But I think he’s learned many lessons from that train wreck. My grandfather used to say, “It takes a steady hand to hold a full cup.” You can apply that to all sorts of people in situations - but Tiger probably couldn’t handle the adulation - I think I’ve realised that probably no one could and that Tiger is human after all. I am now much more gracious toward Tiger and have loved to see him back and winning a couple of times. My hope is his body recovers enough to win once or twice more. I have a great respect for how he has rebuilt his life.
With all respect to Jack Nicklaus, Tiger is without a question the greatest golfer of all time. Except Majors, Jack got Nothing against Tiger. Most records, most PGA wins, but more important is what he did for golf, he single handedly made Golf greater then any other Golfer before and after him, that includes equipment technology, Tournament purses and getting people into the sport. Not only did he beat the best during his prime, but he have won agains beasts like DJ, Rory, Bryson, Rose etc in the current era. Tiger had far harder competeters against him. no matter if he was injury free, or comming back after several surgeries, he beat them all. Michael Jordan does not have most rings, but still he is without a doubt the best basketball player to ever have lived, same goes with Tiger, Major 1st is the only thing he lacks, EVERYTHING ELSE he have dominated. So if you dont agree with this there are other reasons, such as the color of his skin, or from a personal view for example his personal scandal some years ago, but from a golf perspective, there is no doubt, TIGER IS THE GOAT!!!
I don’t think its that easy and Tiger has only 1 major win against DJ, Rory, Brooks, Spieth, and whoever else you mentioned. Jack was winning against Palmer, Player, Tom Watson, Seve, Norman, Faldo,. That’s a lot of major winners he was going up against.
Tiger effect = In 97, tiger was the only golfer on tour looked like an athlete. In 2021, everyone on tour looks like an athlete. 25 years ago, people believed that you shouldn’t workout or bulk up if you want to be a good golfer. Tiger proved them wrong.
Still, Jack is the greatest... 18 majors , Tiger 15 19 runner ups, (most of all time), Tiger 7,(8th, most) it's very conceivable that Jack could have won at least 25-26 majors... Here's where Tiger outshines Jack Cheated on wife, Tiger 17, that we know of, Jack 0, Driving while intoxicated , Tiger 3, Jack 0
The greatness of Tiger Woods summarized in one tournament, given all he has been through, was the 2019 Masters Tournament. I have never seen anything like that and I still watch it from time to time. We know it might be too much to ask of him, given what happened to him additionally in 2021, but still many hope to see some of that 2019 Tiger in the future. In fact, already in 2022.
If you saw him play in the PCN tournament w/his son Charlie, you can see Tiger still has it in him to compete at a high level considering the competition (John Daly, Justin Thomas, Matt Kuchar among others).
Obviously people mention Jacks major wins, which are nothing short of amazing but not one person (who isn’t a casual) can deny the absolute impact Tiger has had on the sport. And he’s the best golfer to pick a club up. Simple.
All the players now are basically even, you don't watch a tournament now knowing you're gonna see something crazy. When u watched tiger you was guaranteed to see something wild
The reason he won so much was he was not only the longest off the tee, he was also the best iron player, had the best short game, and was the best putter. That mix will yield a lot of victories. Even today, he would still have won more than anyone else, but perhaps not with the same frequency as he did back in his prime!
He was long but irratic off the tee. He was the best iron player of all time by far. He was the best at recoveries, Top 3 in short game and the best clutch putter.
@@CSpad He really only became irratic off the tee after Hank Haney, where he paradoxically because more precise with his irons... In the Harmon days he had like a 70% Fairways hit... So, that right neer the top of the PGA tour!
Tiger has done more for golf than Arnold has ever done. Tiger is why professional golf is seeing such revenue, period! He brought a audience that thought it wasn’t for them but once they saw Tiger, it’s open the flood gates…. The stage was set for those that don’t look like Tiger, and those that didn’t want Tiger playing. He was told to go home, we don’t want you here, so many need to learn the history of this country before you say many have paved the way for Tiger, they paved it but not for ppl that look like Tiger. Tiger paved his own way! Tiger is the best golfer ever!
Say what you want but this guy made more shots when it mattered than anyone to ever play. You don’t have 82 wins and 15 majors on the PGA and not be the GOAT. It’s really that simple.
@@siobob1 neither one of those guys has both 82 wins and 15 majors. As you know, Slamming Sammy had 7/82 PGA wins. Jack had 18/73 PGA victories. In my opinion, Tigers health & personal issues are the only reason why he doesn’t have more majors & total victories. I would also argue that he has been his own worse enemy. But his record, combined with his impact on the sport from an interest and financial standpoint is unmatched.
Golf will never have another tiger, inlaugh when he didn't win in 8 tournaments and he was in the media for being in a slump, its very rare that anyone win more the 3 tournaments in total let alone how many he won in 2000
Has this host ever heard of Michael Jordan? I love Tiger but MJ is the greatest athlete ever. Come on!! I watch Tiger's highlights because it makes me feel closer to my dad. My dad played golf for many years. He was so happy when Tiger came along. He's gone now but I remember him yelling every time Tiger hit a great shot.
Tiger Woods (USA / Golfer) - the most dominant athlete in the history of sport He is G.O.A.T. 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐 alongside Tom Brady (USA / Football Quarterback), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal / Footballer), Lionel Messi (Argentina / Footballer), Kobe Bryant (USA / Basketballer), Carli Lloyd (USA / Footballer), John Cena (USA / Wrestler), Randy Orton (USA / Wrestler), LeBron James (USA / Basketballer), Kaka (Brazil / Footballer), Zinedine Zidane (France / Footballer), Landon Donovan (USA / Footballer) & David Beckham (England / Footballer)

19 runner ups, (most of all time), Tiger 7,(8th, most) it's very conceivable that Jack could have won at least 25-26 majors...
Here's where Tiger outshines Jack
Cheated on wife, Tiger 17, that we know of, Jack 0,
Driving while intoxicated , Tiger 3, Jack 0
The Tiger Effect, haha love that!👍

He turned golf into must see TV. Sunday red was like a fever dream
I wish I got into golf when I was younger to have been able to watch this guy live
I’m watching this entire video
thank you for this
Greatest athlete/competitor of ALL time.
Only this guy can make me play golf
Better than most indeed. True legend. Greetings from Denmark
I just hope he can come back and win his 83rd tournament. He didn't look bad at the pnc.
Tiger is the main reason I got into golf he has the it factor.........
Excellent presentation
Thank you Tiger
Anyone else’s favorite golfer..!?
Great video thanks.
The best video of the greatest golfer of all time! Can never be duplicated....
Truth of power 、skill and beauty !
As Ty Cobb was to baseball, Eldrick Tont "Tiger" Woods is to golf. TRANSFORMATIVE !
Tiger the best golfer ever to play the game.
No, not even close
@@jeff3putt seriously? tiger is by far the best. it’s not even close
Folks that isn’t a Tiger, that’s a GOAT!!!
"GET IN THE HOLE"; the golf anthem, especially when TIGER is playing👌👏🙌🏌️♂️🏌️♂️🏌️♂️🏌️♂️💥
Is it just me, or does Billy Horschel look like Christian Bale playing Dickie Eckland from The Fighter.
he actually does lol
Haha glad I'm not alone
Can you imagine early 2000s Tigers distance with today’s modern tech?! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Obviously people mention Jacks major wins, which are nothing short of amazing but not one person (who isn’t a casual) can deny the absolute impact Tiger has had on the sport. And he’s the best golfer to pick a club up. Simple.
Tiger will come back and continue to contribute to golf and the kids in all manners that he needs to do. He transcends the sport…
All the players now are basically even, you don't watch a tournament now knowing you're gonna see something crazy. When u watched tiger you was guaranteed to see something wild
Steven. Tiger woods get well soon we all miss you. 🍺🍺🍺
Amazing achievements!
25:46 interesting that he leaves the blade of grass directly in his line and putts over it. Maybe used as an aiming point?
Can’t wait till he’s back on the course!
I think his career is over buddy
@@TheAFant01 I wouldn’t count this guy out... people have done that before
@@TheAFant01 if John Daly can play in pro tourneys from a golf cart Tiger is def playing again.
@@TheAFant01 if "the great hawk" (Ben Hogan) can do it, so can tiger.
@@TheAFant01 hey man! As long as the drugs keep him up and the broads keep-a-coming, he'll be teeing it up forever...
And his son Charlie at 15 recently out drove him ..’’ blood is thicker than mud’’❤
The reason he won so much was he was not only the longest off the tee, he was also the best iron player, had the best short game, and was the best putter. That mix will yield a lot of victories. Even today, he would still have won more than anyone else, but perhaps not with the same frequency as he did back in his prime!
Honestly, he’d be as dominant today as he was then. His irons and his short game/putting. Nobody then or now was/is even close.
Tiger saw the HBO special and said let me gas myself up real quick lol
Tiger has done more for golf than Arnold has ever done. Tiger is why professional golf is seeing such revenue, period! He brought a audience that thought it wasn’t for them but once they saw Tiger, it’s open the flood gates…. The stage was set for those that don’t look like Tiger, and those that didn’t want Tiger playing. He was told to go home, we don’t want you here, so many need to learn the history of this country before you say many have paved the way for Tiger, they paved it but not for ppl that look like Tiger. Tiger paved his own way! Tiger is the best golfer ever!
Yes, he is the Greatest Of All Time !
He is A Golfer and, Golf is his.
Yes, simply the best to ever do it.
Say what you want but this guy made more shots when it mattered than anyone to ever play. You don’t have 82 wins and 15 majors on the PGA and not be the GOAT. It’s really that simple.
Sam Snead also had 82 Tour wins and Nicklaus has 18 professional majors. It's really that simple.
But his record, combined with his impact on the sport from an interest and financial standpoint is unmatched.
i want more please
He is the goat
Jack is
Tiger, def the GOAT😜😜😜
Golf will never have another tiger, inlaugh when he didn't win in 8 tournaments and he was in the media for being in a slump, its very rare that anyone win more the 3 tournaments in total let alone how many he won in 2000
Has this host ever heard of Michael Jordan? I love Tiger but MJ is the greatest athlete ever. Come on!! I watch Tiger's highlights because it makes me feel closer to my dad. My dad played golf for many years. He was so happy when Tiger came along. He's gone now but I remember him yelling every time Tiger hit a great shot.
2 ads every 4 minutes... kinda bs TH-cam
Brilliant!
Get well soon Tiger 🐅
So true about todays Pro golfers...they look like athletes. Very exciting to see.
If his name had been Randy or John he would not have affected Golf as much I bet! Regardless of the wins, little kids in Tiger costumes says it all.
I dunno..... had jordan spieth not fizzled out, he'd have had a lot of kids dressing like him....
I watch a lot of golf, of the 50 greatest shots I ever seen he has more than 50% of them , 1 man ?
Woods doesn't play up to the crowd. He is barely aware of them. His natural pumped up reactions to what he pulls off comes from within.
People saying Nicklaus is the Goat needs to see this documentary!!
Tiger woods is the best athlete ever live
Tiger please write a book soon and a picture book with all the photos
generations today just have no idea what we witnessed for years
I did, I watched the greatest ever, Jack.😉
Tiger isn't the best player anymore but his A game is still better than everyone else.
