  • The human brain is a supercomputer with networks that control the various functions that make us who we are, and allow us to do what we do. When brain circuits malfunction, debilitating motor and behavioral symptoms may emerge. Direct electrical modulation of malfunctioning brain circuits has tremendous potential to alleviate human suffering in dramatic and sometimes surprising ways.

    I have an uncle who is 42 and lives with me. He has what I beleive is dystonia. Our family, has taken care of him siince I can remember. He crawls everywhere when at home and wheelchair bound. But he is not incompetent. He goes to the bathroom by himself unless we have to rush in there and help. (Not worth the mess) but anyways I would be a dream to see him walk. Hes religious too, so it be really cool to see science prevail where God has failed. Ive seen soo many pastors pray for him saying GET UP AND WALK.. to nothing. Hes an amazing person and strong-willed. I know chances are slim for this technology is barely getting off the ground. But, it feels good to know that pretty soon others with that desease will have hope.. The thought of seeing tito walk brought tears to my eyes. . Because suddenly there is a possibility. Great work guys.

    definitely mind-blowing implications ...
    this obviously worked so well with that boy, wonder if people with paralysis of any kind e.g. after a stroke or braindamage by some accident could be treated effectively as well where too much damage has occurred to work with conventional and altermative therapy.
    still I do think it's extremely scary even creepy yet extremely fascinating at the same time that this is what we are at at this point in human history.

    The brain is not a supercomputer. This metaphor is not only incorrect but it is misleading as Dr Norman Doidge, author of the book "The Brain that changes itself" goes to great lengths to point out. The work that the guys here are doing is fantastic and the none but the most heartless would deny that many are being helped by this work. But the premise is actually wrong. The last 30 years have show that the brain is not a fixed entity (as would be a supercomputer) but is actually completely plastic hence the term neuroplasticity. I cannot go into details here but if you read Doidges work you can see that countless cases prove that our brains are actually being changed all the time through our own attitudes, choices and responses to our experience and our environment. But above all our brains are changed through what we do BOTH internally (imagining thinking etc) and our motor behavior. Through engaging in certain programs (with no medical intervention involved) patients with OCDC are shown (demonstrated through MRI scans) to have rewired their brains and overcome their disability. Surely everyone would agree that it would be far better to take this route than to plant electrodes in the brain which should only be done as a last resort right?
    In any case please check out Doidge's book. Its cutting edge and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

    • @humanyoda
      @humanyoda 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you have a deficient understanding of what computers are. They need not be fixed entities. Hence, the metaphor is correct.

    • @waterkingdavid
      @waterkingdavid 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are referring to AI well people like Jeff Hawkins of Numenta are full time involved in work related to building machines that learn and using knowledge about how the brain works to inform that. But this is in its infancy and the materials that computers are made of are completely different from the tissue that makes up our brains. I strongly recommend reading about Doidge indicating the brain's neuroplasticity. As one reads one feels shocked that this info isn't more widely known.
      Hopefully truth rather than market concerns will slowly start directing the aquisition of human knowledge. Take care.

    • @humanyoda
      @humanyoda 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      David Watermeyer Thanks. I've heard Doidge speak and am aware of neuroplasticity, but still claim what I wrote above.
      Sure, there are differences between modern computers and human brains, and that's why we use the word "metaphor", not the word "synonym".

    I want to feel happy how can I get my neurhands on that, I spend so much energy all day trying to talk myself into being happy forcing myself to smile doing anything I can and usually at best it just keeps me from getting extremely depressed but I’m not sure if I remember what happy feels like anymore, and it’s not like I’m not grateful because I really do have so much to be grateful for.
    What really brakes my heart is I have two beautiful little girls 2 & 5 years and I don’t know how to teach them to be happy I mean they are so smart it’s not like they can’t pick up on there Dad forcing a smile all the time I could and should be genuinely happy just being around them watching them interact with life play ect.
    And I love being around them playing with them I absolutely adore them so why do I have to force the smile why doesn’t it just happen, not saying I’m broken but it feels like there is something broken.

      You are NOT ALONE.......you literally have to talk to your subconscious ........every night b4 sleep ask yourself a question like this...... I wonder what amazing thing will happen for me tomorrow, or something similar...... your subconscious is made to work to find the answer....... it will stop focusing on so much of the negative and search for something pleasing and positive. Also keeping a book or a journal and gratitude.....sounds to simple but it works! Also first thing when you wake up in the morning before you got out of bed, think of five people in your life that you are so grateful for and maybe a happy memory you had with them.......❤️❤️🙏🌿.....THESE TIMES ARE ROUGH!

    The husband in the story with the obsessive compulsive wife who deems everything as contaminated lacks courage and leadership. How did he come to the point where he strips himself naked before walking into his own home? I would say to the wife, "No, this is irrational and we're getting you help". I believe when our loved ones are behaving incorrectly - whether children, spouse, parents, etc. - we must not give into their demands because it only makes their disorder worst and they are confirmed that they're right when they are absolutely hurting us and themselves. We must be courageous and say no, and do what we can to control their actions so that they're guided towards good correct behaviors.

    Mr. Driver has a point. However, moral/ethical considerations with regard to brain surgery vanish if a person has tremors so severe that the simplest tasks become hopelessly impossible. Such unfortunate souls exist and very little more. There is no quality of life. I personally consider the work these doctors are doing as little short of miraculous and, quite frankly, clearly superior to the only alternative at the moment: a drug-induced torpor.

    Oh shit, we all knew it was gonna happen one day. Abusing this kind of technology would be something right out of a nightmare, and knowing militaries, this will be abused.
    But there's also a bright side to it, for example it can obsolete crude methods, like torture, and the medical implications outweigh the moral risks in my opinion, as this video took good care of proving. Also since it at least for now still requires direct contact with the brain at great accuracy, nobody's gonna be able to use this technology against anyone who isn't laying down on an operating table.

    • @cee175
      @cee175 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The can use this technology to hurt a patient, so torture is not off the table. They are now using technology instead of fist to sabotage a person's life. They want us to be declared mentally insane, so they can implant medical devices and mind-control us. If they would just use it for good.....but the elite always use it to further enslaved humanity instead of healing us and giving us lasting freedom. What happens when someone hacks into this system & causes horrific emotional trauma, or they set us up in a crime. Our brains can literally be controlled remotely & that's scary!!!!! Law enforcement and government are already using this advanced technology, but it's far more advanced than this.

      ***** I totally disagree with you. It disgusts me when people use examples like you just did to demonize "religion" because Islam is the only one who acts like that. The difference between Islam and Christianity is that the Koran directly supports the murder of unbelievers. Jesus gives you the right to reject Him and go on your way. You on the other hand have a egocentric false sense of intellectual superiority in which you think you are so enlightened like you figured out something special by claiming atheism. Im happy to let you know, though you will totally dismiss what I will say, there are followers of Jesus out there who are having actual supernatural contact with the Holy Spirit and experiencing Biblical manifestations of power. I used to be an atheist and I have to continually think back to where I came from but I always find myself dumbfounded at the massive ignorance of atheists. They think they are so smart but they dont ever seem to realize that you cannot experience or perceive something spiritual by using scholarly means. Its like trying to taste with your eyes, it doesn't work. Spiritual sense is something that has to be experienced to understand. It is like trying to explain sight to a blind person. I promise you that you have missed something. I would hope that you would be open minded and humble enough to give it a legitimate investigation but I suspect you have other underlying motivations to reject what I said. The fact is that evil men will always find some excuse to be evil and it doesnt matter if you eliminate religion or not. What the world needs is Christian values. The commandment of Jesus is that we love our neighbors as ourselves. If we all did that there would be a lot less problems. There is absolutely no arguing with that logic. To try would be to give away an ulterior motive.

    • @justicemars886
      @justicemars886 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I wont dismiss it if you will remember that it is the failure of people to live up to good standards and their unwillingness to try that makes them fall so miserably short. I understand some of your reasoning but I try to leave the judgement up to God and not condemn that which I cannot fully comprehend. This is more than I can say for the attitudes of others who claim to be Christians. That does not make them correct and it does not mean that God is unjust. You ask me if I am able to love my enemy. The answer is yes, in short fleeting moments I have accomplished this. It does not last as I am continually corrupted by anger, hatred and reoccurring unrepentant insult. It is not for us to be perfect but to strive for it. When I was an atheist, I had heard all the arguments and philosophies and I was very experienced in life without knowing God and I thought I had made sense of everything. I was wrong and I found that out the day I had an encounter with the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ. I can tell you that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and there is power in His name. I know it sounds cliche and the demon thing sounds like eccentric attention grabbing but the fact is that Jesus is quite real and so are demons. We come into contact with demons on a daily basis. It is only through His power that I am able to conquer things like anger and lust. Demons are quite present around us but we often do not see what we are not looking for. Hollywood has given us an idea of what demons are supposed to be and what the devil looks like and if it doesnt fit into that box then it must be hog wash, right? No, most of the time it doesnt happen that way. Satan is much more subtle. Would you think the greatest adversary that man will ever know would approach him from the front wearing a red jumpsuit and asking for their soul? Someone once said that the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he doesnt exist. This is painfully true and heartbreaking. I wish I could articulate to you my incredible experiences and what I have come to know being truth the same as I know the sun warms the earth. I see though that it is something that others must learn for themselves and cannot be obtained through the speech of a stranger who holds little credibility. Good luck.

      Justice Mars This technology provides people with the opportunity to live normal lives that you and I take for granted. Those suffering struggle to get out of bed in the morning, speak to their family, feed themselves and the worst part is that there are people like you that hold their religion and "morals" above those who need help. I don't give a shit about how you try to defend your religion, I don't care as it something that is your choice and if it makes you happy to bow down to a God who has in your eyes created this World then fine. You are also of course bowing down, praising and thanking the God who, by your reasoning, caused the suffering of the people in this video. The boy who couldn't control his muscles... according to your religion God creating a world where that is an occurrence. And you thank him and pray to him?! Meanwhile you criticise a technology that is helping them. Nice ideology you have there! Thank the God that created such awful suffering and condemn those who are helping those who are... ***** agree totally that the virus religion is one of the greatest dangers humanity faces!

    One doesn't need doctors, or surgeons -- I resolved so far my headache and psychological stress by magnetic fields -- OK, (it's not straight forward magnet, I'm still experimenting, and I'm not a physician, so i'm telling no more till i got to understand what I did) -- Funny enough, i thought my brain problem were because of Radio Frequencies. I initially aimed to a strainer Wi-Fi antennas, because of my extra-sensory perceptions. At first my my eyes doubled up, I couldn't read my laptop screen, and took a break thinking what I had done, then half an hour later my brain reorganized my view, and I have a high definition view now, but my heart went berserk -- that was no good. So I shifted my so to say broche to the back of my neck and i'm wearing it there day and night, intended on testing through the summer for twelve months.

    There is a large support group on Facebook for those who have received DBS for OCD. This procedure has saved so many lives. People who were so stricken with debilitating OCD that they could not leave their house, hold a job, open a door, on and on, are now able to live a more normal life. And often an unexpected side benefit was that their major depression was lessened or cured. This team in the video is sometimes mentioned with gratitude and love. These men are miracle workers that can never be repaid by their patient's families.

    Tampering with the brain has moral, spiritual and physical implications that we do not fully understand. I agree these are incredible applications to this technology but it could cause long term problems that they are not aware of yet. In my opinion only in extreme cases, like these, should it be used and these patients monitored for adverse and ancillary reactions to the procedure. Only cases where the reward can out weigh the risk does it make sense now.

    I know it's a "stupid" argument in doctor's eyes, but what of the placebo effect? If a patient believed that they had an electrode and their brain was getting fixed, would it repair itself? If so, it's not profitable for doctors, but it would lend further credence to the power of our own thoughts and belief and ability to fix ourselves.

    These kind of interventions forego the fact that a lot of these problems are the result of degenerative lifestyles. The underlying problem gets ignored and that's that the way we live nowadays isn't natural for us. I'm not denying that the results are amazing and relieving, but they consist of hijacking the nervous system instead of healing it. Mark my words that people will ignore their lifestyles and take a quick fix over real change any day. The unassuming public won't even think about the possibilities that come with allowing a regime to intrude into your nervous system. We're rushing headfirst into a technocratic dystopia and most don't even realize it.

    So a brain disease isn’t diagnosed by structural issues but behavior. Their cure is implanting an electrode into the brain, applying electricity to the functional circuit that is misfiring, and correcting dysfunction via deep brain stimulation. This is a miracle for the woman and the boy who lack muscle control over their bodies. It is also a miracle for the woman who lacks mood control over her brain. However, I find this technology a double-edged sword. I empathize with the patient’s anguish. I’m also concerned how this technology could be used in the future. For example, nothing would disrupt society more - for better or worse - than if brain electrodes became commercially available and mood control was simply the touch of a button on a user’s Apple Watch. Hence, this technology is a power player to watch.

    Your technology is amazing. Your intention, I think, is to help patients, but these days the same technology is used to change normal persons into the disabled. Most people do not know how their brain circuit works, how the lazer affects their brain, and the development of brain technology, so they try to find the reason in other places. I also had implanted neuronal electrical node in my brain. In fact, I didn't. I am just a victim. I hope you let people know the danger. The world that has technology has killed people and in many cases, they die even without knowing the reason.

How many people out there are going to take exception to the cure for cancer if it happens to come from a controversial procedure? As for those who are atheists I pose this question; You have a 50/50 chance on whether or not there is a God, If at the end of your life you find that you are wrong, what can you possibly say when your standing before God on the day of your reckoning?

    Interesting but has it gone unnoticed that numbers like 100 billion and 100 trillion are used to describe enormous amounts of whatever, as in this presentation. When scientists and others are not sure about amounts they usually throw the number one around with various amounts of zeroes after that. Every week on some subject or another this numerical figure of one followed by 6,7,8,9 or more zeroes is used to explain a dubious numerical quantity.
