Ha ha! I have written a book ‘Painting Watercolours on Canvas’ if you are interested. It’s on Amazon or out in the US in Oct. also just started a Facebook group (watercolour on canvas) if you want to join. It’s a lot of fun.
Is there a particular reason you use Indian ink rather that watercolour black (maybe Mars black)? Wonderful work, I love it. All your work is beautiful. Thank you for sharing
it is tricky to layer on canvas, as the first tends to lift really easily. By using a waterproof ink, it gets round the problem ( even ink lifts a little!)
Hi, I received your book and reading through it. I love this duck and a double hare painting you demoed, please can I ask where you get your ref photos? Thanks again.
A few photographers give me permission, I use Pixabay and Paint my Photo. There are free reference groups on Facebook and sometimes I mash together lots of photos to make my own composition
Hi Liz, Quackers is absolutely beautiful. How is the canvas prepared? Is there anything special that is needed to enable watercolour on canvas? thanks in advance
Does the brand or type of Indian ink matter? Should I wait for Michaels to open or buy it at Walmart.. I’m doing a deer in mostly black and white.. Surrounded by green foliage. Tips?
I do find Indian inks vary in how waterproof they are, so I would always suggest testing it on the same surface you are using so not to get any surprises!
Hi, beautiful painting. Why do you use ink and not just all watercolours? Also, when you paint watercolour over the ink does the ink become wet again and blend in with the colour?
great question. one reason is practical, one is aesthetic. I love the strength of the ink against the delicacy of watercolour, I like line against wash, painting against drawing and opacity against transparency. the practicality is that it is waterproof. layering on watercolour ground is very hard. it lifts easily, so the ink gets round that issue. try it!
@@alisonpalmer1515 the main ones are QoR, Daniel Smith and Schmincke. All good. All a little different. Go with the one you can get easiest. I’ve written a book called Painting Watercolour on Canvas whivh you might enjoy.
Wonderful detail instructions.Very inspiring. Can't wait to try this. Thanks Liz!
Have fun!
I am "quackers" for this technique and subject! Thanks so much for sharing!!
