My daughter is currently serving a mission and during our phone call the other week, she said, "How did i get so lucky, so blessed, to be part of this miraculous work? I can't believe i get to live on the Earth during this time when God is fulfilling His promises." John's final comments echoed this by my daughter. I'm so happy to be here for such a time as this!!

I got a wonderful message from the Lord as I listened to the podcast today. When you were talking about feeling small and insignificant when the Lord asks us to do great things...I thought of how I have 2 pretty big callings right now, and I don't feel like that way. I feel the Lord sustaining me and carrying me everyday. I started to wonder if I was being prideful and maybe I shouldn't feel so confident! The Lord has given me a gift to teach and testify of Him. So as I was driving in my car, pondering this, the Spirit started to speak. He reminded me of my prayer just this morning. The one where I asked how I was ever going to survive my last (#10) teenager and the rebellion. I thought of all of my children, who I have testified to my whole life, but many of them have chosen other paths. I thought of how I often feel I can't do it anymore and I am failing. And then the spirit reminded me that this is where I feel weak and inadequate, but I know the Lord has been carrying me all along and will continue to teach and try me through this trial. Thank you so much for your time and effort and the spirit you bring to my life everyday. Thank you Brother Haws, for your conviction, knowledge and testimony that blessed my life today.

Dr. Haws was my seminary teacher at East High. I still have a “Hooperite Warrior” headband that he gave all the students for an object lesson. He helped me build my own testimony of the Gospel then, how wonderful that he strengthened it today 25 years later. I love you Brother Haws, John, and Hank. Thank you!

Thank you, brethren, for your time to teach and inspire all of us who listen each week.
Dallas Jenkins and his incredible and inspired epic production, The Chosen, came to mind when you talked of those good and faithful people helping to bring forth God's kingdom on the earth outside the circle of membership in the restored church. There are so many who, throughout history have played such important roles, and I count Dallas as one of them.

At 11:10 or so, you're describing a difference between erring and sinning. I love it. Because they are different. But what i have found that I think is awesome and powerful, is that they both offer you an opportunity to repent, especially when looked at through our Bible Dictionary definition of repentance, where it means a turning toward and moving closer to Christ. We do not have to sin to repent. Repentance and penance are not the same thing, though they can be intertwined. Realizing an error and correcting is repentance. And any time I can get more Christlike is good for me. Thanks for this program, and for being willing servants and serving in your mission field of podcasts.

Thank you for starting the discussion about what do we mean by "the church is true"! This is something I talk about with my kids. I don't want them to just be parroting what everyone else is saying, if they don't actually know what they mean when they say "I know this church is true" I would rather they say something different.

Oh my goodness, how full my heart is! ❤ ❤❤Who knew how many nuggets were packed into one section of the Doctrine and Covenants! J.B., thank you so very much for passing on the knowledge that you have. Because of this episode, I am now excited to begin this year's study of the D&C.
John and Hank (and J.B.) thank you as always for giving of your time. I am continually amazed and in awe that you put so much into these lessons, ON TOP OF your families, your jobs, and your callings. Thank you, and may the Lord bless you for these efforts. 🙏💞🙏

Oh, how we love your podcasts! Thanks to the Sorensen family, all your guests, and especially Hank and John for continuing these insightful studies with the Church's best scholars. Marie Knighton (Quist), my wife's mother passed away in our home after her 100th birthday early last year. She used to visit Marie Haws (possibly Grandmother to JB) in Hooper on her way to Salt Lake years ago. We think these amazing women worked together in the Church Genealogical Society in their younger years.

Excellent. Thank you! I do want to add to that there is power in testifying of this specific church: Elder J Devn Cornish: What Do We Mean When We Say the Church is True? “other fundamentals are true, but there is also great importance in testifying of the truth of the Church as an institution. In the temple we learn that that is where our consecration is focused. As we feel the truthfulness of the organization that the Lord Himself directs, then we feel responsible to be true to the doctrine and practices taught by the Church….it is folly to imagine that we can believe in Jesus Christ and the precepts He taught and receive the full benefit of the blessings and ordinances available only in His restored Church without believing in, championing, and defending that Church…. With clear belief and conviction come clear and compelling commitments. In other words, once we know it is true, we become morally obligated to act like it's true.”

Fantastic episode guys! Bro Haws' talk on Wrestling with Comparisons is one of my favorites. Thank you for sharing the quote from Heber C. Kimball regarding the character of God! What an incredible way to think of our Father in Heaven.
"I am perfectly satisfied that my Father and my god is a cheerful, pleasant, lively, and good-natured Being. Why? Because I am cheerful, pleasant, lively and good-natured when I have His Spirit…. That arises from the perfection of His attributes; He is a jovial, lively person, and a beautiful man."

I love the responsibility for the listener being moved upon by the Spirit to determine when a General Authority is moved upon by the Spirit. This is what makes the Church "living" to each individual. One person may be moved upon by the Spirit while another may not. Therefore, that individual who IS moved by the Spirit needs to recognize the revelation for herself. It's God's way of guiding and directing us.

Thank you from the Forest of Dean, UK. This has been one of the best episodes of followhim…but I say that most weeks!
I have learnt so much from the discussion on “the only true and living church”. This has helped me feel greater respect for other faiths & the good they do in the name of the God they worship. My awareness of the continuing restoration of the gospel has grown, & I hope we can more of these discussions in our church meetings and conversations.

I'm glad that many in the church are embracing contraries and questions. One of the Q12 (I'm thinking Boyd K. Packer) speaking to CES instructors talked about the time being over for people to just blindly accept various teachings, and specifically the instructors to learn about the "hard" things that were in the church, to learn about these things, and be prepared for when their students came to ask questions and to teach them. There ARE hard things, but we can lean in and continue to move this mighty work forward. For those who are interested, I'd strongly suggest listening to the podcast (two parts) of "The Scriptures are Real" with Stephen Jones speaking with LDS historian Don Bradley. I have listened to both episodes multiple times it is that good.

When you were discussing his grace as being sufficient, I thought of if I being evil give a good gift how much greater is the gift of the Lord. When I think of gifts often it is through physical tangible things. How much greater thos statement becomes when we recognize all gifts in all there varieties and likeness.

I have sometimes wondered how the Gospel would go to Kings and rulers as mentioned in verse 23. Then I recently saw a news article where the First Presidency were meeting dignitaries from another country (as they seem to do regularly) and then it dawned on me; they represent the Kings and Queens, rulers of countries!

@13:40 D&C1:30 is in the conditional subjunctive tense ("might"). Read it in Spanish and it's obvious. In other words, the Lord isn't declaring the LDS church "true". He is saying the members of Christ's church (best defined in D&C 10:67-68-take note of the warning in 68) "might" be true and living. This conditional was violated multiple times after these words were spoken and the saints fell under condemnation (D&C 84:56; D&C 101:6; 105:5; 124:48...). And yet we confidently strut around like the Zoramites pridefully declaring ourselves the elect people.
