    I love the Zeppelin designs, specially with the chronos. The brand follows a consistent design language, all their watches have like a pre WWII industrial look.

    I got Zeppelin with quartz moonphase, it was actually my first proper watch and I love it. It's more dressy piece and very tastefully made. Can't say anything wrong about it. Even Frederique Constant has a model with same movement and it costs almost three times more than Zeppelin 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I have that very model, and after watching the video I took it out of the box, because I haven't worn it for probably a year, I have a daily watch. It worked right away and it fits really nicely on the wrist. Classic model, timeless design, works perfectly. Thumbs up from me!

    I have several Graf Zeppelin watches and I love them! Some of mine even have Swiss movements in them (ETA & Rhonda). They are extremely accurate for their respective movement type (automatic, quartz, etc). The 7680-1 is one of my favorite watches. It's a quartz watch so some people may not like it because of that but it's absolutely gorgeous!
    Great Zeppelin is made by Point Tec who make several different brands such as Junkers.

    I love my quartz Zeppelin GMT watch. The case has a retro aesthetic, and the numerals look like they were painted on 2 minutes ago, and the paint is still wet. It sparkles and glints beautifully in the sun. I may need to get an automatic Zeppelin, now that you have tempted me.

    Have it almost a year now, beautiful, elegant, automatic watch, that will definitely stand out, with its retro feel, amongst other watches in that price range. Only con I have is the jangling of the rotor/mechanism. You can hear it when you move or shake your wrist quickly, especially near your ears. I can't be sure if its issue with just my model or it is just loosely built watch, but Seiko's or Vostok Amphibia's in that price range don't have that problem. Anyway I got used to it, it's not that loud, just enough so you can hear it sometimes. It's design and charm is what made me buy it, but still, it can be annoyance for someone else.

    When presenting a lesser known brand, which really has a premium value for the price, I find it fair to consider brand’s history.
    Zeppelin is part of the PoinTec group along with Junkers (current collection is called Iron Annie, due to the cost of licence for the name), and newer Bauhaus watches.
    It’s a 30 years old company which started with producing oversized ladies watches, and soon grew to achieve several great innovations including:
    -radio controlled Watch in 90's
    -first in the world watch with integrated contactless payment (way back in 2000!)
    -smart rubber watch strap with incorporated OLED touch screen that connects to a mechanical watch, making “(O)LED Zeppelin” a rare combination of smart and mechanical watches ;)
    The movements are mainly Japanese (auto), but also Swiss (quartz), and the company states that all other parts come from renowned suppliers, including Rosenthal’s porcelain dials.

    Hi, Jory! Thanks for this analysis/review; I've frequently scoped out Zeppelin watches on Amazon but haven't pulled the trigger because I'm a little dubious of Amazon customer reviews. I like the classic/retro aesthetic and the size would easily be compatible with my wrists (not huge but slightly larger than average). I'm with you on readability of the numerals and the dial color...I like dials that are either off-white or cream colored, although just plain white is okay too. Nice lume is always a plus, of course. Although too big for a real '30s-'40s-'50s watch, I can easily picture Philip Marlowe wearing this Zeppelin, and that, for me, is the benchmark! Thanks again for a fun and informative video!

    My first watch was the Zeppelin LZ129 (7060-4) with the Miyota 9132. It is in my opinion well made and looks good. The only downside would be the loud rotor of the movement.

    • @caerphoto
      @caerphoto 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I have one of those and the rotor noise is pretty loud. That said, I’m fairly sure it’s only audible because of the thin case and plastic crystal - I have a Junkers watch (so made by the same company basically) which has a 9015 movement (same family, but time/date only) but the 100m WR case mutes the rotor noise a lot more.

    • @ArchiW002
      @ArchiW002 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@caerphoto Yeah I have heard every movement from the Miyota 9xxx Series is really loud. Like in your Junkers, it depends on how isolated the movement is. Therefore I only wear it with a suit on special events because it bothers me in a silent room.

    That offset date window kinda bugs me. Otherwise nicely done, considering the price. Here in Germany, Zeppelin has this lower mid-tier reputation, since many retailers who otherwise only stock Fossil etc. also tend to have Zeppelin on display as the "next step up". And from what I can see, that's appropriate.

      No, the term Made in Germany (etc) is regulated strictly in the EU. In order to use the phrase legally, all components and all work that "adds essential value or function" to the product must be sourced or performed in Germany. So, this can not be a clock that is simply assembled in Germany from imported components, then it'd be illegal to claim it's made there.

    They’re a pretty decent company and the majority of their watches are quite good looking. I have a Graf Zeppelin LZ127, the evil panda chrono with a miyota 6s21 (sweeping seconds). Domed mineral crystal and the indices, hands and the “eyes” of the chrono are lumed. So you get this nice mixture of green and blue lume in the dark plus the distortion of the crystal. The single minus id say is the size at 42mm. Overall a really elegant watch with a vintage, almost military vibe.

    Hey Time Teller would you be up for a very difficult challenge and come up with some recommendations for me please?
    I'm a cocktail bartender and I'm looking for a dressier, more elegant piece that I can wear to work on a regular basis. I work around liquids and water so leather straps are a no go. It has to be a dress watch that look good with metal straps. Must be automatic with handwinding, chronograph and date. Sapphire crystal a must. Hacking optional. Other complications optional. 100m water resistant or more. A classy but unique dial that catches the eye and easily a conversation starter. No bigger than 41mm case diameter. No more than $800 USD.
    I know I'm asking for a lot, but I did say this is gonna be a very difficult challenge :)

I now own about 10 (mid range stuff to be fair). Another very similar brand is Junkers. I think they basically come from the same factory, similar specs, prices and slightly different designs. All in all, seems like a fair watch to pick as "your first timepiece"... as opposed to the stereotypical (though merited) Seiko SNZG/SNK. Cheers from Switzerland Jory, love your channel.

    I have this watch in its black dial variant in my German collection...it's a decent entry level and looks pretty clean.. my only complaint is that it is really noisy on the wrist...the case doesn't do a great job of muffling the noise from the rota wobble....you can also feel it.... I have a laco valencia with the same movement and I think they adjust the rota slightly...you can't hear or feel it.... my advice would be to save an extra 450 and grab a stowa marine...it's well worth it..... or pick up a laco bremerhaven for 5 or 600 on the aftermarket with an eta 6498...both are really worth saving for if you are able to at the minute

    My first German watch was a zeppelin, swiss quartz movement and then I caught the bug. Own 2 Stowa's and a Sinn now. Zeppelin was the gate way drug.

    I am still really torn if I will purchase this or not. I really like the design, but I am not a fan of Miyota 8XXX series (but I love the 9XXX series). I dont care about the lack of sapphire crystal for this price. Really a matter of caliber

    This company also produces watches with better movements. Junkers is another brand from them and I have what can supposedly called "Junghans Max Bill chronoscope homage" from them, and inside it has a Miyota series 9 with 24h and power reserve indicator (check out Junkers 6060-5).
    Actually, now that I think, that was my very 1st automatic watch. LoL. Now I have 120 of them (when things got out of control...)

    I stumbled on this line a few months ago on Long Island Watch channel...ALL their watches are handsome, ie subdialed chrono and affordable...everything from quartz to Valhoux...I would love to get one after overcoming my broke-arse situation...unless I'm REALLY lucky then I'll settle for a Patek..

    I have this exact model but with golden numerals and hands. It’s an awesome watch but the paint on the hour hand is a bit overflowed. I haven’t noticed it at the AD so I have to live with it. Just saying to look out for these, guys.

    Ooh, this looks really good, I'm gg get it.
    But erm seem like there were many negative reviews with many returns of the watch from the link that was shared mostly talking about reliability issues. Can anyone help me clarify before I make a decision?

    The pip at 3 is a clever workaround for the movement being too small and the date window being too far from the edge. It fills in the blank space.
    If they bring out one in a lead case I'll buy it!
