My list is the same order as yours except for SPM's placement, for me personally it's my favorite. Objectively TTYD is the better game but I just like SPM's story and characters, especially the villains, that much to barely edge it out for my subjective opinion. I just love how dark those two games get while staying organic and not using the paper visuals to define the worldbuilding. Paper Mario 64 is a solid framework for the series, TTYD just beats it for the same reasons you said. And modern Paper Mario, while I still think Origami King manages to be a good game in spite of it, is just held back too much by the silly restrictions and rebooted nature of how the world is portrayed. It's not just an organic Mario story with dark and epic themes anymore, it's PAPERY, they are PAPER, they KNOW this, the plot relates to it, the mcguffins relate to it, most original characters must relate to it, etc. The most the first 3 games ever use this are with TTYD's curses, which are portrayed as unholy distortions of reality, not an inherent property of every character. The Star Spirits, Crystal Stars, and Pure Hearts are magical and enhance the lore of the Mario universe without needing to have a paper theme that makes it only work in an alternate universe (also side note: I despise Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam for trying to retroactively redefine Paper Mario as an alternate dimension while using nothing worthwhile from it and exclusively using things from the worst game, while simultaneously using almost nothing from the M&L series either. Super Paper Mario is always #1 on my list. I've been playing it since I was 5/6 years old, and I still find entertainment in it. The only other game I've played in this series is Origami King, and Super is better. I mean, come on! BOWSER FLAILS AND SPINS HIS ARMS IN SUPER PAPER MARIO!!
1.TTYD 2.SUPER PAPER MARIO 3.64(PLAYING IT THROUGH FOR THE FIRST TIME) 4.ORAGAMI 5.STICKER STAR NEVER PLAYED COLOR SPLASH SO EXCITED FOR THE TTYD REMAKE ONE OF MY FAVORITE GAMES OF ALL TIMES
Reasons why I like sticker star. 1. The new attacks like the eekhammer and hurlhammer add lots of variety to the battle system 2. The toads are generic, but have funny dialogue 3. It has a MINECART level, i mean c'mon.
My ranking: 1: Super 2: Sticker Star 3: Colour Splash Haven't played 64, The thousand-year Door and the origami king but im planning to buy the remake of the thousand-year door
It's a bit sad that most Paper mario fans understimate so much Super paper mario for being so different, it's my favourite by far and the one I grew with :/
@@thewanderingchelmetjust because you didn’t understand what was going on doesn’t mean it’s unenjoyable . I’d say replay it and pay attention to the dialogue. It has regular Mario combat with rpg story aspects . And the story is the greatest ( and most sad ) story in the series and I’d say in any Mario game ever made . Give it another shot .
I honestly think that sticker star was a ok game but defo could’ve been improved I looked back and saw some early game beta footage and it actually looked more interesting than the final product so maybe they just wanted to change the formula for the worst but even then I still really enjoy origami king and colour splash even with their boring battle system and lack of unique characters and also story that’s mostly what paper Mario ttyd perfects which I think is honestly one of the best games I’ve ever played in all of gaming
My personal ranking: 1: Super (Phenomenal 10/10 story, 8/10 gameplay) 2: TOK (sometimes great 8/10 story, 8/10 gameplay) 3: Color Splash (mid 6/10 story but comedy and aesthetic are peak, 7/10 gameplay) 4: Original (I thought it was just okay, 5/10 in total) 5: Sticker Star (the only real redeeming quality is the soundtrack, 3/10 gameplay and 2/10 story) Can’t rank TTYD because I haven’t played it. Waiting to get it on switch tho!
I might be the only person who isn't excited for that Thousand Year Door remaster, but I've never liked the game nor understood why people fawn over it so much. Paper Mario is an odd franchise in the fact that only the first two games were loved but apparently everything afterwards is terrible and doesn't exist. I really don't understand this mindset; I think Super Paper Mario and The Origami King are great games in their own right, and I'm not sure why they can't be hailed to the same degree.
I like to think its because pm64 and ttyd came first and worked. So thats what the people expect from a paper mario game. Maybe if Super Paper mario was the first in the series and had a sequel that improved on it, then that would probably get more love than any pm game that came afterwards.
I can’t say I was positive TTYD would be top of the list, mostly due to Paper Mario and TTYD being very close, to the point which is better depends on who you ask. And for me personally, I’d rank them Origami King 6th just because I never played it, then Sticker Star, Color Splash, Super, 64, and TTYD. Neat video, tho! It was a nice little ranking of the games and nice to see the modern games given some love, too.
@@wootmasterzorsx Yeah, i respect your opinion, but I feel like I was overhyped for this game. I first played paper Mario 64 and went into it expecting nothing more than a good Mario game. I was blown away by how unique and creative the game was and it made me fall in love with it. When I played ttyd, I was a paper Mario fan and everyone told this was the best one. I had way too high expectations and when I played the game and realized it wasn’t this godlike masterpiece that everyone had told me it was, but a great follow-up to one of my favorite Mario games, I was kind of disappointed. I love this game and am looking forward to replaying it, but paper mario 64 just had a way bigger impact on me and for that reason, i personally prefer it. However, i can totally understand how you might like ttyd more and respect your opinion.
@@batty_tsukimiya heres a few combat gives experience worth fighting character designs not all toads good story partners that stay and arent generic fun bosses mr l no real life objects no white outline
I like paper mario sticker star it's was fun and I like carboard style for the background. I like the music of this game too. But I prefer the original paper Mario especially the partner and the music.
I would fully agree with the list. I’d section them off … 1. TTYD - best overall, back tracking is the only issue. 2. 64 - Extremely enjoyable yet traditional … 3. SPM - Best Story, if only we had partners ( who weren’t just tools ) … 4. Origami - Moments of brilliance but not quite there and the enemy stationary boss thing was dumb … 5. CS - Ehh, it’s here … 6. SS- I’m convinced anyone that likes this sniffs glue regularly …. I don’t mind all the paper gimmicks that have came from the modern games , but RPG elements, the story, and the unique characters and partners is what made the first 2 so great . I feel like Nintendo can and should combine them. I’m glad they are willing to return to form to let us show them what we want.
I know I'll probably get crucified for saying this, but I genuinely prefer Paper Mario 64 over TTYD. TTYD is great and has so many of the elements I like about the original, and even improves on things like combat (really looking forward to revisiting it on Switch) However, I just feel the 64 game is more consistent overall. -I like how interconnected the world feels, where you physically travel from place to place, it makes it feel more alive. A lot of TTYD is divided by pipes and warps and it reminds me these are "levels" in a video game. -I always felt TTYD takes a little while for me to get invested? The first two worlds are just sort of "fine" (the dragon and teensies areas) N64 kicks off with a BANG with Bowser defeating Mario, immediate hook and then a gradual build. -Smaller point but I prefer how in the original you're saving star spirits with actual defined personalities, as opposed to just standard stars in TTYD. Makes it feel more personal and rewarding. TLDR; TTYD is good, I don't hate it. Just like 64 better, dont kill me.
Unpopular opinion but I just like paper Mario 64 the most, I don’t know it just had the best vibe to it and it had the best music in the series in my opinion
I always knew when jt came to ranking paper mario the list would go like 1. Ttyd 2. 64 ... 5. Color splash 6. Sticker star It is never difficult choosing the worst or the best, but when it comes to Origami king and Super paper mario, both games that tried some new when it came to battle system. There never is a definitive answer to them, their not the best, but not the worst. They are average. Origami king has amazing visuals and sound design, but the battle system, story, and bosses were extremely lacking, Super Paper mario had "arguably" a better battle system, story, and more interesting bosses but the visuals could be seen as less interesting compared to ttyd and other paper mario games,
I like PM64 more. Ttyd has better gameplay mechanics and some characters are more interesting than the original's counterparts, but that's as far as it goes. PM64 takes the classic mario world and turns it into an actual interconnected world. It puts a story into a classic styled adventure. The music from ttyd just doesn't hold up to the original either. If PM64 had the same battle mechanics as the latter, there'd be no competition between the two.
Origami king felt like it was meant to have original characters, but because of it being a modern PM game it isn't allowed to have that because Nintendo which is sad
I like color splash more then origami king for one simple reason. Origami king has one of the worst endings I have ever seen in my entire life. It’s so bad that it actually ruins a good chunk of my enjoyment of the game. I despise the ending to this game. It’s revealed that the reason the main villain of the game wanted to commit mass genocide, committed murder, committed attempted murder on his sister and mind control the thousands of people against their will was because his dad wrote on him, and he didn’t even bother to read what it said. Also Olivia’s wish is so stupid. She wishes that all of the origami her brother folded would be undone, which includes her. The problem with that wish is that it ignores the hundreds of people that die during the game. Every enemy that you fight in origami king is being mind controlled against their will by Olly. Mario killed a ton of innocent people on his way to stop Olly and the game just chooses to ignore that. And the only thing Olivia’s wish actually does is save somebody who is kidnapped on a weekly basis, fix a castle and kill herself. And Olivia’s “sacrifice” is stupid, because it was completely avoidable if she had thought about what wish she was gonna make for more than two seconds. What’s even stupider is the 1000 cranes technique. Something that was not mentioned at all during the entire game until the ending. Apparently, if you fold 1000 cranes, you are granted a wish. You’re telling me nobody has ever taken advantage of this before? Not Bowser? Not Dimentio? Nobody? Olivia doesn’t even fold 1000 cranes to get her wish. She only folds one. That defeats the entire purpose of the 1000 cranes technique in the first place. But ignoring that wouldn’t a way better wish for Olivia to have made would’ve been that after her brother folded her, he turned good. That way she would still be alive, her brother wouldn’t commit mass genocide and none of the terrible things that happened in the game would’ve happened. Bobby would even would still be alive. You could even have Kamek and Bowser jr actually sacrifice themselves and die in hotfoot crater, because their deaths would be undone. I suppose some people would have a problem with this being a “it was all just a dream type” ending but compared to the ending we got I think that’s 1000 times better. Oh and the cherry on top of all of it is that the final boss is really anticlimactic and lame. What makes it suck even more is that the build up to the final boss is so good but as soon as you enter Ollys throne room everything goes downhill
Ranking Mario RPG'S Worst to Best: I'll be ranking them based on how fun & important the battles are, how many great over world activities are there, & how memorable these games are. I'll also include all series Mario RPGs & some side games. Geez this is going to be a long list. 20. Paper Mario: Sticker Star: Do I have to explain? The battle system. 19. Puzzles & Dragons: SMB Edition: It's just forgettable & boring. 18. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Minions: It's was just OK. 17. Mario & Luigi: Bowser Jr's Journey: A bit better than Bowser's Minions, but still underwhelming. 16. Paper Mario: Color Splash: It's just sticker star, but now you have to use paint too. 15. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team: It's a pretty good, but is a really mid game. 14. Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam: This could've been a amazing idea, but instead turned into a cool idea. 13. Paper Mario: The Origami King: I feel like Nintendo is actually doing better. 12. Mario + Rabbids: Donkey Kong Adventure: It's alright. 11. Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle: It's pretty cool to finally move around the arena & fight. 10. Mario + Rabbids: Season Pass: Well you can tell they put they lot of effort. 9. Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of hope: Probably a bit better than the first game. 8. Paper Mario: A nice story book universe of the Mushroom Kingdom. 7. Super Mario RPG: An excellent classic. 6. Super Mario RPG Remake: An excellent remake with harder bosses. 5. Mario & Luigi: Partners in time: One of the most darkest games I played. 4. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga: There called the Super Mario Bros for a reason. 3. Super Paper Mario: It's everything! A plat former, fighter, space shooter, dating sim, & a Mario RPG all together. 2. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door: My dreams of a remaster for switch have finally came true. 1. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story: It's the 1st RPG I played & the final boss is phenomenal.
Loved your ranking of one of my favorite series of all time! I haven't played sticker star or color splash, but after everything I've heard I don't plan on it. I thought the original was so incredibly amazing when I was a kid and I still have the most nostalgia for it. But currently my ranking goes 1. Super Paper Mario 2. Paper Mario 3. Oragami King 4. TTYD However I must say when I got the GameCube when I was a kid somehow I didn't know about TTYD so I didn't played till a little later when a friend let me borrow it but I only played it the one time and i remember nothing about it, but after everyone on the internet saying it was their favorite, im really excited to get it for the switch and play it again.
Best Story - Super Paper Mario Best Battle System - PM TTYD Best Nostalgia - PM64 However, for me, Paper Mario 64 is my favorite as I grew up with it, I loved the music and I love the Mega Quake badge. The slowdown on the N64 when the hammer hits the ground for the mega quake is satisfying to me for some reason. The Thousand-Year Door is an improvement on the original and it's a great improvement at that. The improved battle system elements, new places, new characters, new partners, added Bowser and Peach segments, the list goes on makes the game a fantastic sequel. I don't really dig the battle system in Super Paper Mario as it's more of a point-collecting bit of just stomping on the enemies and all that but the characters, dialogue and the story makes this game a good third game in the sequel. Yeah I miss the battle system of the previous two games and the partners would've been nice to come back but the pixls are cool too.
1 Paper Mario 2 Origami King 3 Colour Splash 4 Sticker Star 5 Super Paper Mario 64 is the first game i remember playing so there is some bias for that game.Haven't played ttyd but can't wait for the remake. I think ToK CS are as good as each other I understand the hate for sticker star but it still has interesting sections like in world 3 when you have to find all your stickers. But super paper mario has no game play and everything said about sticker star also applies to super I don't understand why so many people like this so much the character designs are very lazy and I play games for the gameplay not the story (probably why I love the original) and the game is so boring every one hates the new combat but super is still some people's favourite despite the fact its battle system is worse. Anyway that pirate Bit in CS is way better than super and also you get put in prison by shy guys and Origami Kings sound track is the best part of the game. Thank you for reading me hating super paper mario goodbye.
They should go back to the original vombat system gor the next new game. It would solve their all the problems with the series. Some times a mechanic is so good that it made the game better for it and just being new for the sake of new isn't the best possible solution.
For me 1: Super Paper Mario 2: Paper Mario The Origami King 3: Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door 4: Paper Mario Color Splash 5: Paper Mario 64 6: Paper Mario Sticker Star
man so much hate for sticker star, I get not everything is 'good' about it but the songs and some atmospheres are just amazing. I really like trying to solve the puzzles and just look around for stickers and visit old locations just because some are really nice, such as surfshine harbour or even the enigmansion, or some of the snow maps. Will always be my fav paper mario game (grew up with it so I have some bias but still) My list: Sticker Star TTYD 64 Origami King Super Color Splash

I like how in the video thumbnail, Paper Mario from Color Splash takes a hammering to Paper Mario from Sticker Stars.
1.TTYD
2.SUPER PAPER MARIO
3.64(PLAYING IT THROUGH FOR THE FIRST TIME)
4.ORAGAMI
5.STICKER STAR
NEVER PLAYED COLOR SPLASH
SO EXCITED FOR THE TTYD REMAKE
ONE OF MY FAVORITE GAMES OF ALL TIMES
The only Paper Mario i′ve played is Sticker Star and i honestly really liked it
Reasons why I like sticker star.
1. The new attacks like the eekhammer and hurlhammer add lots of variety to the battle system
2. The toads are generic, but have funny dialogue
3. It has a MINECART level, i mean c'mon.
My ranking:
1: Super
2: Sticker Star
3: Colour Splash
Haven't played 64, The thousand-year Door and the origami king but im planning to buy the remake of the thousand-year door
It's a bit sad that most Paper mario fans understimate so much Super paper mario for being so different, it's my favourite by far and the one I grew with :/
Its on of the most like in the series wdym.
i played it and it wasn't very fun, didn't really understand what was going on bcuz you go to a grassland, then a desert, then all sorts of the things
Super Paper Mario is actually one of the worst Nintendo games I have ever played.
Really nice video u deserve to be noticed more I’m gonna sub keep up the great work!
My personal ranking:
1: Super (Phenomenal 10/10 story, 8/10 gameplay)
2: TOK (sometimes great 8/10 story, 8/10 gameplay)
3: Color Splash (mid 6/10 story but comedy and aesthetic are peak, 7/10 gameplay)
4: Original (I thought it was just okay, 5/10 in total)
5: Sticker Star (the only real redeeming quality is the soundtrack, 3/10 gameplay and 2/10 story)
Can’t rank TTYD because I haven’t played it.
Maybe if Super Paper mario was the first in the series and had a sequel that improved on it, then that would probably get more love than any pm game that came afterwards.
paper mario rankings are usually incredibly predictable, i'm just here to see what you had to say about the games
I mean I honestly think where they rank is just going to be up obvious and basically the same for most people, but I'm curious to see this anyway.
unpopular opinion but colour splash is my favourite after ttyd (and spm and ss are nostalgic for me)
I like all of them even sticker star
Mmmm. I really don’t think sticker is so bad. Color splash is so me, the best but keep in mind that I haven’t played the first 2 ones
1. 64
2. cs
3. ttyd
4. ss
5. tok
6. spm
Good Ranking
in my opinion, super paper mario is my favorite and the best paper mario game. everything is just perfect, and i just love the villains in this one
yep , I put ttyd in second place
I can’t say I was positive TTYD would be top of the list, mostly due to Paper Mario and TTYD being very close, to the point which is better depends on who you ask.
And for me personally, I’d rank them Origami King 6th just because I never played it, then Sticker Star, Color Splash, Super, 64, and TTYD.
Neat video, tho! It was a nice little ranking of the games and nice to see the modern games given some love, too.
For me, 64 is better than ttyd because of its beautiful art books artstyle and the fact that the game is actually kind of challenging.
@@voltron77 Exactly what I’m talking about, perfect example. And totally fair, that is a valid reason for liking 64 better.
@@voltron77the biggest ttyd problem is how unbalanced this game is.Why did they added health to partners?
@@gdassspar6nar And also supershield (I don’t remember the exact name but when you hit the b button and take no damage)
Sadly, even though I love Super Paper Mario with all of my heart, I can't disagree with all your ranking...
super paper mario is 100x better then the last three paper mario games
There is not a single thing thats been done better in SPM than in TOK even the character designs
Yes there are. And I could list plenty. But I’ll just state the obvious:
The story. It arguably has the best story in the series.
@@batty_tsukimiya heres a few
combat gives experience worth fighting
character designs not all toads
good story
partners that stay and arent generic

The only thing i liked about spm is the story and characters.
I freaking loved Origami King. Of the 3 Paper Mario games I've played, I think I'd rank them 1. TTYD, 2. Origami King, and 3. Super Paper Mario.
The first two paper mario games were the best. Really sad how the series not continued. But color splash was a pretty good game too.
I like paper mario sticker star it's was fun and I like carboard style for the background. I like the music of this game too. But I prefer the original paper Mario especially the partner and the music.
Only 3 more days for TTYD! My first time playing a paper mario game. I'm very excited.😄
1. TTYD (No one can contest that)
2. TOK
3. CS
4. 64
5. SPM
CS abd 64 are really close for me, Super isnt too far behind either
6. SS
I would fully agree with the list. I’d section them off
…
1. TTYD - best overall, back tracking is the only issue.
2. 64 - Extremely enjoyable yet traditional
…
3. SPM - Best Story, if only we had partners ( who weren’t just tools )
…
4. Origami - Moments of brilliance but not quite there and the enemy stationary boss thing was dumb
…
5. CS - Ehh, it’s here
…
6. SS- I’m convinced anyone that likes this sniffs glue regularly
….
I don’t mind all the paper gimmicks that have came from the modern games , but RPG elements, the story, and the unique characters and partners is what made the first 2 so great . I feel like Nintendo can and should combine them. I’m glad they are willing to return to form to let us show them what we want.
I hope paper mario fans don't hate the remake. Because if they do, they might get Paper Mario: A Cardboard Catastrophe
color splash will forever be my favorite.
I know I'll probably get crucified for saying this, but I genuinely prefer Paper Mario 64 over TTYD.
TTYD is great and has so many of the elements I like about the original, and even improves on things like combat (really looking forward to revisiting it on Switch)
However, I just feel the 64 game is more consistent overall.
Just like 64 better, dont kill me.
based opinion
Nah Super Paper Mario deserves better. Best in the series
agreed
He should have ranked it lower
My top three Paper Mario games are:
1st: Super Paper Mario
2nd: Paper Mario The Thousand-Year Door
3rd: Paper Mario
your wrong about paper Mario color splash, sticker star, and origami king
1:32 as proven by abdallahsmash026 in his paper mariothon it is fully possible to beat all bosses without thing stickers
Can’t wait for the remake
Has Nintendo given a release date yet?
Not that I know of, just "2024"
Worst: Origami King
Best: Super Paper Mario and TTYD (Tied)
Unpopular opinion but I just like paper Mario 64 the most, I don’t know it just had the best vibe to it and it had the best music in the series in my opinion
Great video!
I always knew when jt came to ranking paper mario the list would go like
1. Ttyd
2. 64
...
5. Color splash
6. Sticker star
It is never difficult choosing the worst or the best, but when it comes to Origami king and Super paper mario, both games that tried some new when it came to battle system. There never is a definitive answer to them, their not the best, but not the worst. They are average.
Origami king has amazing visuals and sound design, but the battle system, story, and bosses were extremely lacking,
Super Paper mario had "arguably" a better battle system, story, and more interesting bosses but the visuals could be seen as less interesting compared to ttyd and other paper mario games,
IMO the original game is the best one but TTYD is also a fantastic game
Maybe it was just cause I was a kid at the the time but I loved sticker star….
3:56
*Divisive
Anyways good video :)
Ranking Mario RPG'S Worst to Best:
I'll be ranking them based on how fun & important the battles are, how many great over world activities are there, & how memorable these games are.
But currently my ranking goes
1. Super Paper Mario
2. Paper Mario
3. Oragami King
4. TTYD
However I must say when I got the GameCube when I was a kid somehow I didn't know about TTYD so I didn't played till a little later when a friend let me borrow it but I only played it the one time and i remember nothing about it, but after everyone on the internet saying it was their favorite, im really excited to get it for the switch and play it again.
what made you ever wanna 100% sticker star 😭
1. TTYD
2. 64
3. TOK
4. Colour Splash
5. Sticker Star
6. SPM
Best Story - Super Paper Mario
Best Battle System - PM TTYD
Best Nostalgia - PM64
However, for me, Paper Mario 64 is my favorite as I grew up with it, I loved the music and I love the Mega Quake badge.
What I like about sticker star is better music, better enemy designs, focusing more on the paper aspects, animations and the simplicity.
1 Paper Mario
2 Origami King
3 Colour Splash
4 Sticker Star
5 Super Paper Mario
64 is the first game i remember playing so there is some bias for that game.Haven't played ttyd but can't wait for the remake. Anyway that pirate
Bit in CS is way better than super and also you get put in prison by shy guys and Origami Kings sound track is the best part of the game. Thank you for reading me hating super paper mario goodbye.
I FUCKING KNEW THAT MY FAV PAPER MARIO GAME WAS GOING TO GET THE TOP , also the remake for paper Mario TTYD released
They should go back to the original vombat system gor the next new game. It would solve their all the problems with the series. Some times a mechanic is so good that it made the game better for it and just being new for the sake of new isn't the best possible solution.
Do you think color splash will make a return in the future Maybe on switch cause I think it deserves better?
I only really enjoyed chapters 1 and 4 for sticker star
Sticker Star on TOP.
Tbh i like origami king the best
For me
1: Super Paper Mario
2: Paper Mario The Origami King
3: Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door
4: Paper Mario Color Splash
5: Paper Mario 64
6: Paper Mario Sticker Star
I prefer the battle and badge system from TTYD more than PM64's, but I prefer the overworld in PM64 to TTYD. The stories are equally good
man so much hate for sticker star, I get not everything is 'good' about it but the songs and some atmospheres are just amazing. I really like trying to solve the puzzles and just look around for stickers and visit old locations just because some are really nice, such as surfshine harbour or even the enigmansion, or some of the snow maps. Will always be my fav paper mario game (grew up with it so I have some bias but still)

Sticker Star
TTYD

Sticker star is an embarrassment and has zero redeeming qualities. I thought origami king had a lot of charm, but they haven't been able to recapture the magic of the original rpg games. I hope the next game finally goes back in that direction, even though we know it won't.
