Thanks for sharing Jennifer. For salvation we do not have to do anything. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ - it is a gift of God not something that can be bought or bargained for. What you are speaking about is sanctification and the process by which the Holy Spirit sculpts us. This what we think is work that we do on ourselves is actually the work of the Holy Spirit lest anyone should boast of their good works (as the bible teaches). If we trust on our own work then we are not trusting in Jesus. People like Joel Osteen are false prophets who teach it’s all about us when it’s actually all about Christ.

Yes. I think first and foremost we must be equally yoked. If you are dating someone who is not born again, you have misstepped. As Paul says, "what fellowship has light with darkness?". Its also ideal to date someone who is just as in love with Jesus as you are, otherwise you will be facing an uphill battle trying to pull them up rather than being pulled down by them. It may be possible with prayer but idk if it's ever wise. It's certainly possible if the spirit so leads. The most important thing is to obey him in all you do.
