Alayna was my Ingrid. After Contrapoints's Shame video, I took a walk, listened to Alayna's coming out again video, sat on a curb and sobbed. Woof. But I'm glad all of these points of reference exist for people now! It's so important to have this representation of non-instantaneous/I always knew kind of story.

Yesterday we put together a new arm chair from Amazon, the right size so she can relax and lean back while I sit on the floor and make her feel special. That way we can both be comfortable for as much time as she wants. (Like many old guys, I can't do the other thing anymore. But that is ok, because I really have learned a lot.)

Alayna is a bit confused. We’re the same age. Ellen came out when we were 5. That was defiantly NOT junior high lol. But that’s how I learned what gay was too. I looooved Ellen. I used to get in trouble when I was really little for telling everybody I met about “my best friend Ellen.” I was too young to know the difference. I legit thought we were friends because I watched every episode of her show. Anyway, one day my parents told me that I couldn’t watch my show anymore. I asked why, and they told me that Ellen had come out. That she was gay. I asked what that meant. My mum explained that she liked other girls the same way that most girls like boys. And told me that now that she was out, her character on the show would start dating girls instead of guys. My exact words were “Yeah. So? I don’t care. I love her.” But they thought watching the show would make me gay. 😑🤦🏽♀️ So there was no more Ellen in that house from that day on. Ironically I ended up queer anyway. 🤣

dude i was suchhhh a boy crazy "straight girl". and when i look back (gayly), im like what is that?! i guess having so many crushes on so many different boys (mostly popular boys that would never look at me but i really ran the gamut with types of guys i'd crush on) -- so many more crushes than my friends who would actually like one person during the time i'd crush on approximately 20 different boys -- should've been a signal to me that my feelings for guys just weren't that deep. now i can analyze all of the crushes i had on men as either aesthetic attraction, gender envy, or me just liking a guy because lots of other girls liked him and i needed something new to think about in class 😂
