As an Englishman from/in Liverpool, I agree with this tragic analysis.

As a member of the Dalton family, mentioned toward the end of this interview, may I say that there is no debate or doubt about Emmet (my grate-uncle), his conduct, his story/recollection or anything to do with the death of Collins other than his genuine love for the man and sadness over the loss. I did learn a lot of interesting angles from the early part of this interview but to contradict the interviewee a little here, there has been a lot of work done over the years to piece together those events and there is no credible narrative and, of course, no evidence at all to incriminate Emmet. He was a tough old boot, who found himself thrown into history twice before he was 25, and who lived a life full of adventure and change.

Major General Emmet Dalton did not shoot the big fella.

The problem is there is no evidence any direction, other than coverup by the State before FF took over power. Took many unanswered question about his death and what happened afterwards. Your relation was involved, and non of their official narratives do not make sense, thus a coverup was done by burning records in Dublin castle. Why are other members of the forces not injured? Why was there no enquiry or proper investigation about many aspect of his death, including poor security and including why did they use the same road back? Way to many questions. Those IRA men could not hit turkeys in a barrel as they were useless.... Yet it was claim they kill the big fella and the machine gun on the truck (which had height) killed none of the IRA men who managed to kill the big fella. Michael Collins best friend Harry Boland was on the opposite side, I bet he was sad too after the death of the big fella if he was still alive at that time. Michael Collins wrote to Kitty Kiernan that "I passed Vincent's Hospital and saw a crowd outside. My mind went in to him, Harry lying there dead and I thought of the times together . . . I had sent a wreath. Nevertheless, I suppose they would return it torn up.".

@@limerickman8512 I guess it's impossible to keep a good conspiracy theory down.
Unfortunately, your confirmation biaias has lined up a series of well-debunked lines of enquiry with no track record of serious academic, historical, judicial, or journalistic credibility. I know it's in the nature of a conspiracy theory that sayng so will seem like I'm just part of the same conspiracy. What can yer do?

Everything you "know" about the period is debatable, don't mind destroyers there were bombers assembled at Chester to bomb the four courts, the artillery was organized by Colin McVean Gubbins an SS man later head of SOE in WW2. Dalton was almost certainly a British Agent and the army believed he was the assassin. The six months Jan to June 1922 were underestimated in terms of the violence not just in the north. Collins death was never an accident there had been six attempts earlier.

Excellent discussion , does Paddy have any books on this narrative - and can i pose a question ? - As it has emerged that the British had infiltrated the IRA in the north during the troubles with an extensive number of IRA informers on the payroll - most notably Scapeticci /Agent Steaknife at the highest level - so that they could manipulate and pull the strings -even of the security / army council level of the Provisional movement - right alongside Mc Guinness including treasurers of Sinn Fein - and even had senior agents killed off if ever there was risk rereleasing this fact - is it not logical to ask how far back in Irish affairs did the British operate spies in the senior Irish political system - especially during the initial foundation of the state - and is it not inevitable they controlled ifor when should Collins live or die ?

That's why Dalton left the army because there were bringing in court marshal and executions, genuine reason for him not to take part as he was already on the anti treaty side ? Maby every last man from both sides were in on it ?

The Republic is an absolute mess. And controlled by Brussels with the traitors in the Dail doing the bidding. Northern Ireland is actually in a great position with O’Neil in control. The people in the North are much better off than those in the Republic. The citizen’s in the Republic need to clean house and change 5he members of the Government and replace them with Irish people who shall work for Ireland ad the Irish people. Throw all these so called Asylum Seekers out, r you shall end up like England and Scotland.
