Anyone else's Band-Aid fix to just swing where you think you would totally miss the ball or hit the very toe of the club. but then you actually hit it in the center? hahaha I'm down bad right now. Hope this video helps. You have a lot of tips I have never seen anywhere else for the shanks! You have given me some new optimism.
First time I have heard the triangle/angle reference when explaining distance at impact/address. Made a ton of sense! Your presentation was extremely good! Thanks for posting valuable information
first video i see with someone mentioning forward press. last month i went from shooting my best round of 74 to recently getting a bad case of the shanks (go figure!) and i have a forward press...i think this is the cause because i've tried everything else and still shanking ! can't wait to get out to the driving range ! thanks !
Great discussion. I never shanked until I started to try to hook the ball rather than my old fade shot. They talked about coming more from the inside and perhaps I overdid that move. I may go back to trying more of a fade swing in order to open up more with my shoulders. Will that help?
Thanks for watching Bob. If your path is coming to far from the inside and you keep rotating your lower body then your body is not manipulating back to path and that could cause the shanks. Trying to think of a fade could get you into a better position in the backswing. Most likely your body sequencing is top down. Focus on your lower body rotation and check your grip. Thanks Bob. Excellent points. I only seem to shank the short pitch shots when I try to shorten my backswing. My backswing is flat to begin with. Any ideas?
Hi Doug, I’m thinking your either losing posture or taking the club away with your hands and not rotating you body. A flat plane can get you swinging more out and above the ball. Short pitch shots don’t give you enough time to manipulate your club and plane much which can lead to the shanks. Watch this video on the take away. It should help + practice practice it in front of a mirror. th-cam.com/video/9mFNIAbEzJU/w-d-xo.html
1..we are often told to play chip shots off the back foot..zack king lists a big forward press as a cause of shanks 2. i stopped my chipping shanks ny keeping my head centered/still and not looking up too fast to see where ball went..amazing
Hi Zak...Some other sites suggested that seniors have a closed stance for a better turn back wnd more distance I was thinking that would make my Shanks come back because I seem to come back flat and inside with a closed stance that's what you said will happen ...dumb question ...what about an open stance with square or open shoulders? I'm guessing that's a dumb question because that will probably lead to issues too as well the reason I asked about an open stand since you mentioned that if you come from outside to in that you're more likely to hit on the toe. I would love to hit the ball closer to the toe..lol..on video with lines I sometimes lean forward a bit or my hands move closer to the ball on heel shots.
I have a bad tendency turning that has me going around with my back shoulder this causing the shank. I am a lefthanded player and can shank the wedge as well as the 3 iron. Any ideas? Very frustrated
Best and most thorough explanation I’ve seen. Thx much for your commentary…
Thanks Ron!
Love it because it’s not about some obvious stuff that the better players know already. Thanks!

The absolute best explanation for the possible cause of a shank. Well done! Bob Morgan

You should have invited me to demonstrate how to accomplish a shank. I got it mastered at this point.
Are pulls an effect of fighting shanks? Cause I’m totally mind fried currently battling shanks

Hope it helps. Make sure to video your swing. It helps to see the problem.
