    Years ago with my first dog, I remember what my trainer said..."you're not giving a reason for him to follow you...make yourself interesting to him and genuinely enjoy your interaction with your dog".
    Always a delight to see Mr. Cabral in action!

      It is not his presence. You have missed the point of very basic body movement and the dogs response...at the end you see the owner start to get it..

    I’ve recently joined Robert’s on line course. The lessons on recall, loose leash, timing of praise and correction are invaluable. I strongly recommend giving it a try.

    This worked amazingly with my almost three years old glden retriever! For the first time in our life together he followed me and I didn't even feel him on a leash at some point. I binge watched your videos since yesterday and we already had three not so bad walks around the block. I didn't let him sniff excesively, didn't let him pee on every corner, didn't let him pull me and both of us felt more relaxed. He is reactive to dogs and can be afraid of humans in his personal space but he chose to focus on me for the most time. It's a huge win for us!

    I wanted to revisit this vid and take a moment to thank you Robert.
    Though I've learned a great deal from other vids/examples you've provided, teaching myself to teach my Pit to heel started here and the reason I'm writing this is because today was the first time he did everything off-leash - Sitting/waiting, heel, stopping, left turns, right turns etc - He's not perfect but he is absolutely amazing and a joy to work with.
    He's a rescue dog and for some reason, left turns and the occasional resulting stumble made him cower and we've even got past THAT!

    Great video showing when the leash was handed to the owner, those layers of “walking = tight leash because I have to pull him where I want him to go” picked right back up. So much of training is teaching the owner and I’m raising my hand as being in that club. Good work Jeff and Bruin!

    It’s not complex. To the dog it’s as clear as yes or no. To the owner it’s about giving clarity of the wanted behavior. Training the human has greater challenges.

    I had to grin when Robert basically told the owner he was too boring for the dog. I got the feeling the owner might have some "purely positive" script in his head about how he shouldn't ever correct the dog. But what a difference by the end!

    I have learned to be a bit better for my dogs from your videos, so thank you for that. I am also in vet school, and I am curious if you have any thoughts or ideas to offer to veterinarians and veterinary technicians/staff particularly those just entering practice with respect to building handling techniques or different ways of approaching dogs in the stressful vet office context. We inevitably interact with a wide range of dogs with a wide range of training levels, and as much as we do learn about behavior and various techniques, there are always more things to learn and I'm curious what thoughts you might offer. I understand if you'd rather not as it isn't quite a dog training question! Thank you either way!

      You could try some impulse control. Keep him on leash and when he sees a squirrel get him to sit and when he does take a step closer and tell him to sit and each step is a reward since he's getting closer to the squirrel or where it was.

    Should we never let our dogs interact with other dogs then.
    I have spent over a year avoiding dogs and trying to train my dog and he's doing great since I adopted him but I have started letting my dog go up to dogs but only if I feel it's OK but my dog just wants to play but I just want him to be neutral.

He’s been improving until I walked with my friends female dog that’s his age. He was pulling so hard that he sounded like he was choking. He has been around her before and other dogs. No clue why he was acting like that.

      Pinch collars are not bad as long as they aren't adjusted too tight. I've had dogs that got excited every time I moved their training collar because it meant fun time. Most of my dogs have been on the large to extra large size, and the prong collar was just a reminder not to drag me into the street until they were better trained

    • @hibiscus09
      @hibiscus09 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s not true. My dog will walk this way on both a prong collar and a flat collar because I trained him. A prong collar is a training tool and, if used correctly, will make the journey to loose lead walking happen much more quickly.

      My dog was the same. No treats, no toy. He was interested in anything other than all the smells outside. He ate other treats and showed interests in toys only when he was inside. Outside he ignore all that. Only thing I found he really like outside was cheese strings so I used that for training. I started my training at the front door and stop and go method while walking. I went back inside if he ran through the door and pulled. Many times my training was up to my driveway. Small wins go a long way. That's what worked for me.

      You need to start in a boring environment. Living room, backyard, driveway, front yard, street outside house. Build up slowly. You need to walk purposefully, briskly, so the dog is catching up with you. He builds a bond with you if he is being led instead of leading. Good luck.

    That's BS. Show what to do when the dog doesnt listen to leash pressure. My dog doesnt care if i try this with her. Shell loosen and come then shes right back to pulling. Weeks and months of daily trying this little leash pop and she doesnt care. Thats what Robert needs to show. Anyone can succeed on a dog like this with almost no actual drive or stubbornness.

    • @neutrino09
      @neutrino09 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Forgive my unsolicited advice. I learned from a another trainer that if my correction has no effect then it wasn’t much of a correction. Every dog is different so this doesn’t always mean escalate. Example. My 11 month old Doberman Malinois cross. He is stubborn. No bones about it. High drive too. Excellent impulse control for food and some prey (squirrels and rabbits a work in progress if off leash - on leash ok now) but not all and not of he is off leash. He is also not neutered as I feel he is too young yet. Martingale or prong are meaningless when he goes “a blind” for something. He doesn’t care about actual pain. Dislocated his shoulder trying to pull to me from a friend when left behind for a medical appointment. Oddly two things are more powerful for him. He is VERY social so threats of “time out” or a low level e collar stim or vibrate are all ten times more likely to stop him than a violent leash correction. I was exhausting myself with leash work until the collar came into the picture as he seems to have figured out if we aren’t home I don’t have anywhere to give him a time out. (bought a crate for grammas house too)
      My advice; try as many different interrupting techniques until you find the one that works for your dog…leash pops,hip pokes, bonkers (rolled towel tied and thrown), e collar stim or vibrate, removal….watch many trainers. His method above does work for dogs like yours if the collar is a good interruptor for them. The pop may not be serious enough or like my dog he may not care about leash pops. It might take more work but it’s possible.

      @neutrino09 she doesnt care about any of it. I took my sport dog collar to level 2. I cannot turn her off a person or another dog no matter what. Prongs either. She doesn't give a shit.
