She wasn't literally haunted by visions of Norma Jeane, but what happened to her as a child/teenager (i.e. abuse, neglect, unstable upbringing) did affect her as an adult, naturally. Psychologists have questioned whether at least some of Norma Jeane's later behavior (i.e., hypersexuality, sleep disturbances, substance abuse, disturbed interpersonal relationships), was a manifestation of the effects of childhood sexual abuse.
I actually think Mira Sorvino did a good job as Marilyn. She doesn't look like her completely, but she has the voice pretty down and it doesn't sound put on. I believe it.
what I don't like about this is showing Marilyn Moneoe like paranoid shzofrene and she was keep talking herself and sing herself as Norma Jean wasn't true at all, she wasn't that sick. Norma Jean was hard working bright young woman who create Marilyn Monroe as screen persona, she was healthy and strong enough to get over hard life in orphanage and work all her life and lived her life front of public, she had emotional problems and she was misunderstood, smart and strong woman end up died or murdered misteriously.
It kills me when people say Scarlett Johannsson should play MM, While ScarJo is very sexy and has the body, her features are nothing like Marilyn's, they are way too big. Marilyn's face had very delicate features, she enhanced them with makeup. I think Mira is pretty good, but I would have probably switched actresses and had Judd do the MM & Mira do the Norma part, mainly due to Ashley having the more softer features, though Ashley is perfect as the ambitious, fearless Norma & Mira is perfect as the sexy basket case so it worked in the end.
Maybe they're comparing ScarJo to Norma Jean, before Marilyn had her nose job? It's the only explanation I can come up with, because they look absolutely nothing alike. Her features really are way too big, and I'm not convinced that all the contour in the world would help.
This is awful. There’s no evidence she had an affair with the president or with Robert Kennedy . This happy birthday song was practiced and rehearsed to the tee and every single person knew how it was going to sound and what it was going to be like when she got into the stage. She wasn’t crazy !
To be honest, I think the casting is fine. As for Marilyn herself, she was the top bubble gum actress and a major name for Kennedy to conquer. I hate being this way, but the truth is that Marilyn was just another knotch in his belt, not at any point wife material.
i agree, she just doesnt have any of the mannerisms(sic) of Marilyn. you would have thought that would have been pretty signifiant to the movie... you would think
Mira is an actor ahead of her time. Truly brilliant! Too bad she was cast in such corny movies. She did really well with what bad script she was given.
The thing that makes this movie not work for me is that even though the movie shows two different sides of Marilyn's personality, those sides are depicted in a way that's so one dimensional and lacking in nuance that it's not really that interesting. I don't really blame Mira or Ashley, though. It was the script that was the major problem.
It's amazing how much this girl looks like Mrilyn Monroe, but what the hell were these stylists thinking when they dressed her up?! And the director... they could watch some of her movies at least to see her manner ...
@TheJoec2005 Yeah, but he does look a lot like JFK. I'm still surprised that Marilyn was so naive about JFK and the other Kennedy clan. So many actresses think that these powerful men will simply drop their wives. As for her alter ego, Norma Jean, no wonder Marilyn went nuts in the end and killed herself. I think Mira was perfect and really well suited to this role. I really can't fathom dealing with someone like that day in and day out.
I think the actress looks very much like Marilyn, the only different thing is her lips. But everithing else is just the same, of couse she can't look absolutely like Marilyn.
I know it's sort of the point and this was written and made years ago, and I'm sure the book it's based on sucks, but having the two versions of her be so completely and utterly different people in every aspect, even if implying that she 'became' her movie star persona creation in real life, is a little hard to stomach, nonsensical and extremely far fetched. Going from ballsy, sharp and articulate to intellectually challenged and beyond ethereal to the point of being somehow vacuous... You can seem or feel like both of course in life, and vulnerability takes many forms and guises, especially if you've had such a developmentally traumatic childhood and are alone in life without parents and a supportive family, especially back then. I get what they were doing but yeah, it's bizarre. Good viewing though. Artistic license I guess. Both great actresses though. I really like both of them and their work. If you disagree with something I've said, there's no need for personal attacks and venom. It's just the internet. Peace. And rest in peace incredible, magnificent Monroe. What an amazing, gifted, hyper intelligent person she was. How she captivated the world was unprecedented and her achievements are underrated in my humble opinion. It irks me how people still don't get all of this and can't contextualise in the era etc and accept that physical beauty and sex appeal are not mutually exclusive with genius, talent and intelligence. Love her. And I reeeeally don't think she wanted to be First Lady, on any level, even via psychosis or fantasising. I may be wrong, I just don't get that impression from what I have read, picked up on and pieced together.
Too bad she ever got involved with the Kennedys.,but then she would be an old woman instead of being remembered as forever young. About the movie it is **,and that's being generous.
Totally... She has NO curves. Marilyn was FALLING out of this dress, thats why the performance was so controversial. Mira is beautiful, but not right for this part at all. Ashley Judd and Charlize Theron would have been better.
LOLZ @ 3:35 I know this is a serious film and all...but really. That is the greatest bat-shit crazy, losing your fucking mind scream ever! LOL you can see her psyche cracking as she screams like Smeagol in the Return of the King lol I love it! lol
@@alicedee3982 it is brilliantly done I laughed so hard the first time and replayed it repeatedly lol 😆 I cant even watch this film any longer, because i always know its coming lol
"Marilyn and Bobby. Her Final Affair" (1993) is a better movie than this one and Melodie Anderson plays Monroe a lot better. James F. Kelly was believable as Bobby Kennedy. Everyone forgets this movie.
For anyone who dosen't believe that Mira Sorvino gave 1 of d greatest performances in movie cinema, watch her BE Marilyn, not look like her or have her lips, She sounds exactly like her adndoes exactly what u feel Marily would do say, scream, pout. This is genius, how can u not see it!
I think Mira got the essence and voice of Marilyn pretty darn close, though she has too recognizable of a face to BE marilyn. Ashley though looks exactly like Norma, doesn't sound like her a bit though.
M Perry Marilyn wasn’t “that big” either. Look at her 1962 pictures with photographer Bert Stern titled “The Last Sitting” and you’ll see what I mean. She was at her tiniest weight by the end of her life/career. She lost weight for her nude scene in her unfinished film “Something’s Got To Give”.
this is a terrible portrayl of marilyn 'he never stuck is hand up her skirt.".. wtf, marilyn never said that... she never had visions of herself either... this is just a fantasy film... not really truth... they should talk to her friend james haspiel if they wanted to make a movie based on truth.
Do you reckon Marilyn Monroe sore I mean she swears alot in this movie lol random question i know. And I know what you mean they are portraying her as a dumb blonde when she wasnt
She was known to swear, yes. When people knocked on her dressing room and she wasn'r ready she'd tell them to fuck off. There are a lot of these accounts.
this mira women did a terrible job pllaying marilyn her perfomance is annoying and her voice is irritating and she was too skinny to play marilyn marilyn was a healthy gal I agree she could have at least put on weight for the role ashley judd would have done better as marilyn although neither of them favor her my question is who did this women screw to get this part ?
This movie is either 1) tabloid garbage with a lot of made up scenes & no facts or 2) more proof that Marilyn wanted Jackie's life and was deluded enough to think she could steal it
Although she lacks the "Marilyn look"; she does her voice well.
exactly
still better than Michelle Williams playing MM, which is an utter disaster
I agree that they don't look a thing alike, but she has Monroe's voice and movements down pat :)
I do think she was, maybe not literaly like the video portraits but def on a daily level
Yes, of course 👉🇺🇲👌🧠
How eerie to introduce her as the "late" Marilyn Monroe considering the age-old rumor that the Kennedy's had something to do with her death.
JFK had nothing to do with her demise. Do you find it odd that JFK, Monroe, and RFK were all unalive before the 60s decade ended?
This was an unintentional comedy and I love it.
I totally agreed specially when Monroe sang h- day to.....Me. prre-ci-dent "

i was wondering why watching this felt off
I loved that dress. someone bought it at an auction for an unbelievable price
Beautiful dress, nude soufflé fabric apparently!!!!
So ironic that they introduced her as “the Late Marilyn Monroe “ , in May 19 1962.
She died August 5 1962, under. mysterious circumstances!!!!

yea but those make up people in Hollywood can do wonders
Maybe they're comparing ScarJo to Norma Jean, before Marilyn had her nose job? It's the only explanation I can come up with, because they look absolutely nothing alike. Her features really are way too big, and I'm not convinced that all the contour in the world would help.
how erie, the man who portrayed jfk in this film also died young. he died like 7 years after this movie was made
The actor who played Arthur Miller died in 2000 of a heart attack
This is awful. There’s no evidence she had an affair with the president or with Robert Kennedy . This happy birthday song was practiced and rehearsed to the tee and every single person knew how it was going to sound and what it was going to be like when she got into the stage. She wasn’t crazy !

One of the main reasons Norma Jean resented Marilyn and was so cruel. 3:10. One of the strongest interactions in the movie. So sad!
Mira has almost the
same voice
i agree, she just doesnt have any of the mannerisms(sic) of Marilyn. you would have thought that would have been pretty signifiant to the movie... you would think
the shot where she's waiting to go on stage looks a lot like marilyn.
Mira is an actor ahead of her time. Truly brilliant!
Too bad she was cast in such corny movies. She did really well with what bad script she was given.
hey! the guy playng bobby kennedy here is the same guy who played bobby kennedy in thirteen days with kevin Costner & bruce greenwood! who knew!
Either u are BLIND or never seen the real MM pics and movies to say this actress looks like MARILYN MONROE!
JFK here looks like the situation I swear!
LMAO! Mira Sorvino doesn't bear any resemblance to Marilyn Monroe.
Mr. Culp reprises his role as RFK. Same character in Thirteen Days with Bruce Greenwood.
I believe the reprise was Thirteen Days (2000), this movie was the first time he portrayed him (1996). He's uncanny as Bobby.
Right you are. Aside from Martin Sheen's portrayal as Bobby Kennedy in "The Missiles of October" 1974, Culp is uncanny. Agreed.
Did the dress tearing scene actually happen? I know she had to be sewn into the dress since it was so tight
This is a good movie, but inaccurate. Read Donald Spoto's: Marilyn
This the worst movie on Marilyn I've EVER seen.
It's TRASH 💩💩💩💀
Donald Spoto book wasn't truth either!
whyd she go crazy with the lipstick? o.O

of all the MM movies biopics I've seen. The chick who played her in that lifetime movie had her down!!

I think the actress looks very much like Marilyn, the only different thing is her lips. But everithing else is just the same, of couse she can't look absolutely like Marilyn.
This was an HBO original movie.
She seems to be portraying the dumb, blonde characters acted by Marilyn in her MOVIES, rather than the real off-screen Marilyn herself.

Come on for pete's sake, Marilyn Monroe did not have small breasts like this actress. The actress does not play Monroe very well.
