I haven't commented on any video, ever, but I made an exception for this one.
The content has been explained quite exceptionally. Often, tutorial videos spend so much time at the beginning talking about themselves and their 'Visions' - this video has none of that. The presenter quickly starts working with the matter at hand and providing value for the viewer's time.
The tools have also been explained with such ease, without dumb-ing it down too much. I have been working with SSRS for 3+ years, but was still engaged right till the end.
Well done, sir! I am happy I ran into this channel and look forward to watching the other videos.

Excellent video. Setup is VERY crucial though and just an update - I didn't find the template under Business Intelligence although once I installed SSRS it was there in Visual Studio 2017, directly under Reporting Services. It's 2022 and things have changed so if you are stuck reach out and I can share what I did for the setup. Excited to go through this tutorial though.

I really blame TH-cam for this Video! *TH-cam, the Blue Thumbs is not enought to appreciate the quality of Content of this Video. We need more!*
There is no word to appreciate how beautiful is your video:
    - The explanation is very detailed
    - The pace is enough for one to learn from scratch the topic even if we never heard of it
    - The approach of changing and running the Preview everytime is amazingly pedagogic and perfect. It helps us to know what was changed and what is its impact
    - I thought I knew Visual Studio, as I worked with it since 2006, but today, in 2020, I learnt that I was wrong.
You are a marvelous trainer. And you deserve much much more subscribers. This is exactly why TH-cam exists.
    God bless you brother!

Great work on this series! Extremely useful. Question, I created my first report using a from date and end date perimeter. Do you go over how to show the from and end dates as part of the header of the printed report so people would know the date range that was run?

    • @WiseOwlTutorials
      @WiseOwlTutorials  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi there, the easiest way to do this is to drag the parameter from the Report Data window into the header section of the report. I hope that helps!

What is SSRS for given pivot charts, pivot tables, and Power BI? Is it necessary? Are executives expected to understand how to use this service just to see charts and tables? SSIS seems to do what Power Query does. SSAS = Power Pivot so what are these tools for anymore?

Another great video. Your youtube videos are better than most paid programs out there. I have been able to follow report creation and editing without any problems. The SSRS is working beautifully on my Visual Studio development area.
One thing that I got stuck is on the deploying part. When I go to the Server management Studio and try to open the Reporting Services, I get this message: "The Reporting Services Instance could not be found"
Before posting here, I try reinstalling, updating, checked the web for solutions and still nothing.
I even try doing the same installation on another computer and I get the exact same error!
    What am I doing wrong?
I have Windows 10 on both computers and installed VS 2017, MMS 17.7, MMC 3, MS-SQL 2017, SQL SCM 2017.
I followed your first video on how to install everything, but when you show the SQL Server configuration Manager, I don't see the reporting Services there. I go to the Reporting Services Configuration Manager and it says: "Started". I can even test the connection successfully.
Again, I can create and edit SSRS reports in Visual Studio. I just can't access the reporting Services server.
Any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks.

I have a question though: If I want to deploy the report to multiple report servers, each of them in different networks, and I don't want to manually change anything in the actual report properties (So I could just pull the report from a repository and deploy it with no changes) is it possible to indicate a path to a variable in a local file that contains the correct URL rather than specifying the URL in report properties?

What do I need to do to keep different editions of a periodic report? Like for example: I want to have available to my stakeholders Monthly Sales Reports from a Sales Database and Id like each report to be interactive (toggle groupings, dynamic filtering, etc). But since all reports are supposed to be connected to a single and constantly evolving database (added, updated, deleted records), I can't imagine how I could do the above said multi-editions for the example Monthly Sales Report. Is there a method you could suggest?

    • @WiseOwlTutorials

Hi Jonathan! I'm not sure if this is the cause of your issue but in SSRS 2017 data sources have an annoying habit of resetting their credentials to the Don't Use Credentials setting when you first create them. Try opening the Data Source Properties dialog (double-click the data source in the Report Data window), head to the Credentials page and check that it's using the type of credentials you think it should be.
      I hope that helps!

After that I published the report parts to the server, and then finally when I deployed the report to the report server, the issue began. HI! I am using SSRS reports. I am in a big throuble with table's layout and looking for it on internet i didn't found anything that can help me, then I am trying telling you my problem: I have to send MHTML in mail body for my boss, that has a GMAIL account. He reads mail on PC and on mobile. I can't use MobileReportingServices, but I need to fix the visualization problems: is there a way to make the layout flexible in SSRS? Using particular function maybe? Every research i did says that it's not possible, then I am asking you tha same thing. Please help me.

    • @WiseOwlTutorials
      @WiseOwlTutorials  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi there, I'm sorry but your research is correct, tables in SSRS aren't really very dynamic in the way you want them to be. One thing you could try is creating two tables in the report, one for viewing in normal HTML view and one for MHTML (I think that you can make SSRS distinguish between the two but I've not done this myself). You could then add an expression to each table's Hidden property which tests the value of the RenderFormat.Name property and makes the table visible when it's being viewed in the appropriate renderer. Here's a blog which shows the basic principle by hiding a table header when the report is displayed in Excel www.wiseowl.co.uk/blog/s373/excel-render-format.htm
Here's information from Microsoft on SSRS rendering extensions docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/reporting-services/extensions/rendering-extension/rendering-extensions-overview?view=sql-server-ver15
I hope that points you in the right direction!

We recently moved from SQL Server 208 r2 to 2016 and I'm migrating my old reports. I forgot some of the steps, but this video was extremely helpful (and current)! Thanks!

Very good videos. is there a way to pass parameters directly to a dataset? looking for use in the where clause rather than as a dataset filter.

Indeed, this was a very good tutorial. I will even donate a few bucks.

Hiya! I keep getting the following error message 'Unable to connect to data source Movies' when I click on Query Designer. When I click details to view the error is says the following:
You have specified integrated security or credentials in the connection string for the data source, but the data source is configured to use a different credential type. To use the values in the connection string, you must configure the unattended report processing account for the report server.
Do you know how I can fix this issue?
    Thanks!
