    11:00 if you are wondering, German trenches were overall more pleasant to live in because they accepted the fact that stalemate would occur, and so took time into improving conditions in them. The British didn't and so their trenchers weren't as comfortable to live in.

      I also heard that that made the British more encouraged to take German trenches, and Germans weren’t to excited to take English trenches. I don’t know for a fact though

    3:34 see drew, I’ve never heard anyone say our school system is too difficult, what I have heard is people complaining about the fact that most of the stuff is useless and the fact that there aren’t enough hours in the day to meet the expectations. I get that the latter could be considered difficulty but it’s meant in the sense of time consumption: things can be easy and still take ages while other things can be difficult but extremely quick. In a sense the “difficulty” of the American primary education system at the very least is the expectation of having 30 hours or more in a day from my experience. This goes for even the “dumb” people I knew, it wasn’t really that they were unable to understand material, they couldn’t allocate enough time to properly grasp the material and get the work done so they didn’t bother and instead just cheated off another person for homework grades. In other words, assuming my experience was to be extrapolated to the rest of the US (which it really shouldn’t be) then the rest of the world would be laughing at Americans for saying something they aren’t saying.
    Disclaimer: my experience is very limited, don’t take this as how it is in every area

      as soon as the german advance failed the high command knew they wouldn't get out again until the war was over, so they build some pretty advanced trenches.
      The british thought it would only be a temporary state and that they would be on the move in notime

    • @johnalexander651
      @johnalexander651 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Generally German trenches were made them largely for defensive purposes by 1915, investing in concrete flooring, rooms and beds for soldiers, and creating livable quarters of Germans. They did flood but in comparison to Entente trenches (which were made primarily for the purposes of being abandoned in a couple of weeks were made out of mud. The beds were often dug into part of the muddy trenches, they did not invest in exterminators (rats which plagued allied trenches), and had been nearly constantly flooded (with water almost always seeping inside).
      Though there were areas of inactive combat such as near Switzerland and until 1916 the Somme where the British and French had invested in their trenches to make them liveable or otherwise exemptions to German trenches being sanitary and overall liveable such as during the battle of Verdun.

    Except the Dutch fought with the English for a lot of that territory, and even lost Java to them lol. The real story of the Wreck of the Nisero in 1883 is very interesting because of the political tensions between the English and the Dutch during a hostage crisis in Sumatra, in which the natives captured a bunch of sailors on a merchant ship that ran aground and would only negotiate with the English for a ransom, despite the fact that the Dutch had control over parts of Sumatra, not the English. So the Dutch had to agree to work with the English, while at the same time, tried to successfully save the hostages on their own so they can look good in front of the English. It took a year for those men to be rescued (many died from cholera) because the Dutch couldn't swallow their pride and agree to fully work with the English, even if it meant opening up the ports again to the English.

    There is now definitive moment in the school life of a German kid, where you are told about the Nazis.
    You kinda always know, that there were the Nazis, who were bad people and you just get more and more details while getting older.
    But honestly, it is not even that shocking, well we where 12 years the epitome of evil, but that with the war crimes comitted in Namibia is basically it.
    I'd rather be German and feel honestly ashamed of that two times and proud for the great things Germans did, than be British, American or Japaneese, who all have not come to terms with their past.
    The French, who I very much like, have also not had a really honest discussion about their past, aswell as a lot of other European, Asian and recently even African countrys.
