After a bit of research, I found the flag in 8:33. It's like I already suspected a Prussian regimental flag, specifically of the 32nd Infantry Regiment from Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen, a small principality in the south-west of Germany, nowadays in the province of Baden-Württemberg.
At least the US is consistent about it. Like it is just a subtle change dealing with the stars. Unlike Afghanistan, you could time travel to the US during any year in the last 3 centuries and any quick glance at a flag will tell you that you are in the US.

It used to be just rotate 90" clockwise, then WWII happened, flag was flipped, then the war ended and the flag was flipped back by Elpidio Quirino (with his E.O. 321 of 1950) but only mentioned the horizontal and forgot to mention the vertical hang so that remained. Then decades later, Fidel Ramos puts it in law in the amendement.

I knew somewhat about it, at least that it was a fern and that ferns are an important symbolic plant in New Zealand, particularly to the Maori. It's (sort of, but not to the same degree) similar to how many flags and crests in (Anglo) Canada had the maple leaf motif (in red or green, stand alone or in garlands) long before the official adoption of it as a national symbol. (Quebecois Canada, on the other hand, uses the Fleur-de-lis from the old Kingdom of France a lot instead. @@lifinale Please look it up for yourself before you take a stand about it. A quick search of "PH flag code vertical" or even Republic Act 8941 (if you want the specific law about it) will do.
It used to be just rotate 90" clockwise, then WWII happened, flag was flipped, then the war ended and the flag was flipped back by Elpidio Quirino (with his E.O. 321 of 1950) but only mentioned the horizontal and forgot to mention the vertical hang so that remained. Then decades later, Fidel Ramos puts it in law in the amendement.

Also the brighter colors are only in the web version of the flag, the physical version of the flag in real life has a more similar color to Monaco.

Those are koru designs. Koru specifically refers to a "new unfurling silver fern frond" (according to Wikipedia). The leaf featured on other flags is the fully grown/expanded silver fern.

I knew somewhat about it, at least that it was a fern and that ferns are an important symbolic plant in New Zealand, particularly to the Maori. It's (sort of, but not to the same degree) similar to how many flags and crests in (Anglo) Canada had the maple leaf motif (in red or green, stand alone or in garlands) long before the official adoption of it as a national symbol. (Quebecois Canada, on the other hand, uses the Fleur-de-lis from the old Kingdom of France a lot instead. Since they never technically participated in any of the French Revolutions, as they had already become an English conquest long before then.)
My idea for a welsh addition to the union jack would be to have the bottom background be green rather than blue, i think it would fit better and not be too distracting
I was thinking something like that, but I was thinking for the white portions on the bottom half of the Union Jack to be green. But then on second thought, that would cut out two of the crosses, so your suggestion is better.
Might be an idea to take out the Ireland part since the Ireland isn't part of the union anymore. So out with the St. Patrick's Cross and in with green from the welsh flag and yellow from the ulster flag.

Togo has a flag that has the golden ration, meaning that the rectangle replicates itself for infinity and the ratio is a naturally occurring phenomena that plants often abide to. Their flag would be the shape of the golden rectangle, but another use for the golden ration is constructing the pentagram. I love math and I love Togo's flag, they really had some thought that was put into it.

I had a similar solution to this, but using the Saint David flag where you outline the centre cross with yellow as that flag is just the English one (Saint George btw) but with yellow and black apart from red and white. Defo looks better than just dragon dropping the UK flag, easy to update, and sticks with the theme of the Saint flags being used
