  • Let's play Battletech 2018! In this gameplay series we play through the whole campagin, from an aspiring Mechwarrior to a legend that changes history. Today we are playing the Smithon ammo depot mission and try to finish it perfectly. With some well timed ammo explosions you can take out enemy forces efficiently and still have enough time to catch the excaping

    That one quickdraw during the first mission sure is enjoying his lovely walk to the action while the rest of his friends are getting shredded, finally makes it to the scene like "Oh hey guys, I'm fin- oh everyone's dead."

    I just had Glitch make a punch into an intact Awesome's head one-shotting it.
    I think my scream and following hysterical laught after the new toy (she got to pilot as reward) was heard in all the neighbourhood...

      There would not be a cockpit to clean out, you'd need to replace the head entirely.

      Deus ex Capsicum my 1st save-scum was the reverse happening to my max guts undamaged mech pilot that had changed target from the stick limping nearby.
      I got headbutt in the back and instantly lost my head.

      It was a Black Knight with dual PPCs and 4 medium lasers, which was *really* good with her skills "multitarget" and "breaching shot" as long as I didn't alpha anything

    hey man, make use of vigilance.. you can use it still move and shoot when you use it. it will take away stability damage and give you guarded, entrenched and put you one turn up in initiative.

    My run-through, I got 3 cotpit mods for injury resist and they are the best. No cheap shot head shots pulling your mechwarrior out of the fight for two weeks. Huge time saver.

    I have nice build for that Orion. Two large lasers in arms, AC10 in the side and armor and heat sinks. Deadly pinpoint damage.

    Just sharing some things I learned in my playthrough:
    1. JM6-S with 2xAC10++ may be a more efficient use of precision strike at this tonnage bracket. Pinpoint, more stability damage and more heat efficient than 2xPPC++ at the cost of range. Though if you want to keep your lance together, you will shoot at shorter ranges anyway so this should not matter much
    2. GRF-1N with 3xSRM6++ (3x6x12 damage) is another efficient option for precision strike. Just JJ behind an enemy mech and hit the rear CT. You should have enough damage to even take out a lighter assault mech with one alpha.
    3. You dont have to take so much damage just to salvage a mech. Take out the side torsos (from behind with a GRF-1N maybe) to get 2 pilot injuries (1 per side torso) then precision strike one leg for another injury (when the mech falls down) then just find some way to deal that last injury (lurms maybe to destabilize or a glancing blow to the cockpit from a stray missile or MG) and you have your mech. Even though you technically shredded the mech, as long as you dont destroy CT, you will still get 3 salvage parts at the end

    For that K2 I would want to go for an AC10, PPC and 3 medium laser combo which would reduce the heat output while sniping and increase its close range capabilities while keeping its pin-point damage potential in tact for the most part.

    Great match. It helped that the Quickdraws on both flanks couldn't be arsed to start working on you at all / earlier.

    Pretty sure the perma Higher Spirits is from the Coffee event. And pretty sure everything above 3 skulls is bugged as they always have turn 1 "reinforcements" of near equal tonnage of the primary force. So get used to fighting 8 or so Heavies at once at least until they start swapin out Heavies for Assaults.
    Also Breaching Shot does not work on Entrenched, only Guarded and Cover.

      Permanent High spirits happens from increasing your pilots skills while they have high spirits. Gamers figured this out a couple days after launch. The SJW development studio, so far as I'm aware, have yet to figure this out. Devs also publicly deny that instant reinforcements is in fact a bug so don't expect that to get fixed soon if ever. Devs also deny the unbalanced meta of LRM spam. They didn't actually have to create anything, just adapt the tabletop game to turn based PC game, with terrible AI and worse writing. The game has horrible memory leaks and performance problems. Its been in development for 4 years? 5? This is what happens when you put politics ahead of competence. If they didn't have the 40 year old very popular IP to carry them this game would be an abject failure .

    Showing off the benefits of focusing fire on 1 target at a time. Nice show!
    At around 34 minutes when you had 3 enemies remaining, I think I would have swept around to the Quickdraw on the right flank to eliminate him first, thne continue in a left arc to get the remaining Quickdraw while also providing a safe zone for your Griffin. I think the Orion would have been too slow to keep up and would have been easy pickings once the 2 Quickdraws were eliminated.

    well executed and planned... I'm running now two black knights with two thunderbolt SEs. Love those TBs but downside is late initiative - been lazy so went for vanguard (Master tactician with bulwark). Btw ON1-V is impressive missile-boat, three LRM15s with two MLSRs or SRM6s instead of LRMs.

    2 points:
    1. You were shocked at 40:25 when 115 damage didn't bring down the last Quickdraw. But he was in heavy cover so you needed 230.
    2. If you can't hit a mech to your side, try rotating. This is especially important when you have Bulwark. Click Move, click the circle around your Mech and rotate to a new direction.

    1. Alpha strike constantly, 4 on 1. Easiest to kill first. Burn them down. This should be automatic.
    2. Get where all of your mechs can shoot one of theirs, BUT where the other mechs can't shoot you. (Essentially "strafe" around them.) Stay out of LOS/range of the other mechs as much as possible. Limit incoming fire using terrain and distance.

    The dotted line means you have sight but your guns aren't facing the enemy mech. Use your move, select the spot your standing on already, and just adjust your facing! You could have shot right from where you were. It isn't a range indicator at all!

    I am sad that I'm following you three years after you posted these. But this one, WOW! You shouldn't even have lived through this one with a lance that was so light compared to how many enemies you had to fight that were all heavies.

      @@leegarner4592 I picked up the game myself a year or two ago so it's possible they did some updating but I believe my game updated before I started my current run. Bulwark activates if you get into terrain like forest that gives you partial (20%) damage resistance or if you stand still = in those cases you get 40% damage resistance. If you stand still in forest or similar terrain you get 60% damage resistance. The pilot must have the level 4 Guts talent: Bulwark. I usually give this to my defender (Behemoth usually) and Glitch who I use as long-range fire support - I just have her find someplace high and a bit distant and just stand there firing away and usually switch her to a mech with lots of LRMs ASAP.

    Loving your videos! Not sure if you are aware of this but if you want to, you can go into the navigation menu and go to any planet you choose. I have found that you can find rarer weapons and bigger Mechs this way. I picked up an Orion and an AC20++ by doing this . Each planet has a description of the system type, rich planets and tech planets tend to be good to visit for this.

    12:15 the knockdown will be enough to push the Heavy to the last phase. No need for precision shot. One SRM4 would do, even if three missiles miss, as his stability damage is full. You used the initiative system particularly well on the Wolverine :) and 1HP in the CT tells you that your appraoch was pretty darn good and will prolly work next time around ;D

    Having one guy with ace pilot in either GFR-1N/S or in CTF-1X( AC10, MLs and max HS == maxed out heat efficiency, so Alpha after Alpha, even in desert) can be beneficial. Initiative helps fighting such skirmish. In some cases you will have to fight equal tonnage and THAN another lance with some support vehicles(which so far for me can get up to 80T 3XPPC). So you have to utilize terrain+initiative to cut down indirect/sniper fire to minimum - basically kill enemies that spot you in the same rounnd/before indirect fire can rain.

    Ohhh!! So THAT'S how that glitch happened! I've got the same thing: Behemoth has permanent high spirits, and Opus (my replacement for Dekker) has permanent Low spirits. They've had them for probably several hundred "days", even though Opus was only supposed to last 14 days, and Behemoth, 30 days... They both say "0 days remaining", but they won't lose the buff/nerf. Thankfully, Opus still fights adequately well, despite his low spirits. It's just more "expensive" for him to make a pinpoint strike.

    Simplest way to salvage an entire mech:
    Missles/AC/PPC -> Unstable -> Knockdown (pilot injury).
    Called shot on RT or LT torso. Destroy torso (pilot injury).
    if possible
    Called shot on Other RT or LT torso. Destroy torso (pilot injury).
    if not possible
    Missles/AC/PPC -> Unstable -> Knockdown (pilot injury).
    Called shot on other RT or LT torso. Destroy torso (pilot injury).
    Once they stand up. Precision shot. Sweep any leg = Knockdown (pilot injury)
    If at any point you get a random head hit it just makes the process faster.
    none of this is dependent on getting the Head shot and can be done with average gunnery skilled pilots
    I've salvaged entire Assaults like Highlanders and King Crabs this way. As long as the CT and 1 Leg are intact you get 3
    when targeting torsos aim for sides with ammo because ammo explosions can also cause (pilot injury) and hasten incapacitating without losing out on salvage.
    Sweeping the leg can cause instant knockdown at anytime and can lead to called torso shots or ammo shots on downed targets if you know that the pilot has taken sufficient damage

    In my opinion, it is often worth alpha striking from behind, even if you get overheated (without shutdown). Repairing a little bit melted mech is not so expensive

    Love this game but it's a rare event for my buddy and I to ever finish a multiplayer game without the server crashing. We both play other games without any hitches whether it's online or offline. It's just battletech that has these problems. We are both gutted as the game is brilliant! 🤔

    Think you need to slow down when you are looking for a space to place your mechs. Because 2 or 3 times you moved and had direct line of sight while you could have kept in cover on the enemies if you just had moved your mouse over a little more. And last, Please, PLEASE stop second guessing yourself on placement cause you are over looking your potential covered placements spaces. Other then that I LOVE this playthrough. I have been able to find better routes in my playthrough after seeing yours. So a BIG thank you for posting the vids.

    I finished the story yesterday....and its just great. I swapped out PPCs completely on the end. Large Laser, AC/10-20, LRM 15-20 and a weapon i don’t want spoiler are just doing the job. Aim for legs and make it quick. Btw I skipped all the side quests because Not enoug Money for Thema Job.

    I would love to read your insights on comparing Battletech and Mechwarrior online. I know this is apples to oranges, but am curious as to your opinion on mechs that may be better in one game's universe, than the others and vice-versa, as well as your opinion on how well mech "A" does vs mech "B" in each, and if you feel they are faithful translations of the table-top game I played in my youth.

    Thats a good mech. I downgraded the weapons, maxed armor and it was my main tank until i got an atlas. It lost a few arms but taking damage from multiple assaults mechs will do that

    Baradul in the situation with the Dragon 🐉 if you planned ahead to knock down a mech who is not the in interest to you, use Precision Strike only if you can Destroy it in one go. Heavy Mech that get pulled back one turn by ether source of modifier will still akt in step one, Precision strike and knock down equal -2 Initiativ waste of 1 if you know what im talking about. Precision strikes are really important for mech that you wanna get, cut the legs and salvage them directly taken of the legs is the way to get the whole Mech.

    I’m hoping that there are gyro/leg augments that boost ground speed. I would love to run a brawler but so far it has resulted in massive return fire whenever I weaken my ranged damage to threaten up close.
    My first scout firestarter accidentally scouted into 3 medium mech and lost a torso, half his chest structure and a leg before I got a chance to try and move him into an area of lower threat. 15 turns later I was using him to bait out damage to protect my blackjack from a few determined units. Great fight but the repairtime and injury cost was huge.

    I had a new pilot get an event low-spirits which then bugged out and became a permanent debuff.
    I have them a months pay to see if the 0 day’s was a lie then dumped them, can’t remember if I was in space or on a planet at the time, don’t care much either.

    from my play-through (not finished) I find SRM"s are much better at focused fire than the precision weapons like PPCs and autocannons. They reliably will splash more on the targeted component. Also Head shots are a waste of an attack the probability of actually hitting is exceptionally low. Its better to focus fire on a leg which is an auto knockdown which gives every other mech a free focus fire on any target such as center torso(or the other leg if you are taking it as a prize) or any thing else. PPC's by themselves do not do enough damage to destroy any component by themselves anyways even a head-shot. I personally have a centurion without the Ac/10 (originally due to none in stock) and mounted 2 SRM6++ with a LRM-10++, and the 2 mediums and a lot of heat sinks. 1 ton of LRM ammo 2 ton''s of SRM. It's a little light on the LRM ammo but it can conservatively last most fights till the end. It has legged an orion by it self (high tactics plus gunner) It can run a little hot even with the extra heat sinks. I have a dragon but I haven't found a good role which its suited for its very weak on firepower and you need to replace the LRM10 if you want to add a gyro for melee. I have tinkered with the idea of replacing the lrm10 with a SRM4 with a gyro++ its the true jack of all trades master of none.

      I put a high piloting skilled mechwarrior in my Dragon. Max armour 2 M Las 2 SRM 6 and 2 flamers with arm mod makes for a fast HP tank takes deals massive melee damage and heat. Fire breathing Dragon!

    I had this match where I thought it would gonna be some business as usual battle and then I dropped in a low position, with my main target lance, which outweighed me, in elevated position and their reinforcements, which outweighed me, right on fucking top of my lance. That drop almost ended that playthrough. Also I lost my first pilot there, rip Behemoth, fuckin' saved the others.

    I have the same problem with Decker he is permanently unhappy and behemoth is permanently happy also after a few missions the game menus slow down dramatically , still enjoying the game tho

      Rodrigo Lillo didn't do anything deleted all but 3 saves. Sent feedback to hbs and they said that are aware of the situation and are working on it but no timeline for a fix

    I think precision shots to the head are worthless. To little chance and most of the time you get just damage spread. That's why I mainly chose precision shots to CT.

    My first 3 1/2 "star" mission went like this: Seeing the contract, getting excited, accepting it and negotiate for max salvage. Traveling to to system/ planet and starting the mission. And there it was. A shiny, beautiful, soon-to-be-mine 80t beauty of a... vehicle*. Pressed Alt+F4 and went to the shower to get some external cooling. Played the mission the next day...
    This game hates me :(
    *Accompanied by a lance of 3 mediums and a thunderbold...

    Do you think AC's are performing well? At the moment they feel rather underwhelming compared to M lasers, S Lasers, and Missiles in general.

      Base line ACs beyond the AC20 are practically worthless, they don't deal enough stability damage for a knock down on their own, and they can't be boated enough to compete with energy weapons damage wise. BUT depending on their bonuses AC+s can compete with missiles for stability damage (I have an AC2++ with 25 STB damage and a pair of AC5+++s with 30 STB +4 Acc), or even energy weapons for precision damage, particularly for head hunting which would require a PPC++ to compete compared to the baseline AC20 or AC10+.

      I agree. ACs hardly ever seem worthwhile in their current state. No matter what you want to use them for you have better options available

      I think Gaus rifle is little bit underwhelming. It have good range, but 75 damage for supposedly the strongest weapon in game is not much. AC20++ with 20 more base damage is deadly as hell. 120 damage in one hit is nothing to sneeze at. Especially with breaching shot.

      I think a good AC10 with +ACC +DMG could work as a nice sniper weapon when you do a lot of precision strikes and have high tactics. Apart from it I agree. AC20 + DMG is the way to go :D

      MoltenMetal I wrote another comment about that Orion you have. I mounted two L lasers+ with accuracy in arms and one AC10++ in side. Then few heatsinks and as much armor I can strap on it. Especially on arms. Deadly as hell with Catapult support as knock down.

    Anyone have any good tips on the campaign? I've gone through, and found the majority of time I'm hemorhagging C-Bills just to stay afloat and have trouble getting new mechs and equipment. I may also be too aggressive as I always seek out the enemy. So what are some good ways to:
    1. In the metagame, maintain my C-Bills and still be able to get new Mechs?
    2. In the game itself, keep my Mechs from taking too much damage?

      Daniel Skrivan You could save, then reload if bad things happen to you, like structure damage, pilot injuries.

      I started over on the campaign and tried that last night. It helped, because I was at the end of a long mission in which my Mechs were all still in perfect health (minus a few scratches to the armor) and then the 2nd-to-last Mech rushed in and melee'd my player character's Mech and got a headshot on me.
      However, while this is fine for fixing major flukes that can happen like that, I don't see it as the only way to improve my tactics and economics.

      Its not a problem i think. I also like to play aggressive. but only after i have scout all the enemy mech's and evaluate their threats so that i can avoid putting my team in danger. Also i did always bring a long-range mech with a sharpshooter pilot. I built my Highlander with LRM20+++ LRM15+++ & Gauss Riffle this guy is a bad ass he 1-shot light or medium mech many times with precision strike. But his main job is to destroy the enemy armor with all the missiles and let the other mech finish them off. Also very efficient if you want to destroy both left & right torso and knockdown the enemy mech to incapacitate the pilot so you can get all 3 salvage part. get as much free mech from salvage as possible, then sell them for easy c-Bills.

    i have finish the campaign in 2 days.. when you understand how game work, the game is easy... i m full 100 tonne actually ans stoped to play, because the game without story is boring.

    Most of the difficulty and "interesting things" that happen in this playthrough is when he starts making questionable moves that might end up killing his Lance. I hate it when smart people do really dumb things.
    I would prefer it if he didn't get cocky and made more simple, strategic moves. Instead of making such risky moves.

      Ok there General Patton, let's upload your entire library of played games, and I mean every. Single. One. Then we can critique your tactics - I hope for your sake you never make a mistake or get so excited and immersed in a game that you don't make a questionable choice. But hey, you're the authority on games and how they should be played, so I can't imagine we'll find any instances of that, will we?
      It's a shame people aren't taught the rule of 'if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all' anymore, because honestly, all this comment did is show how much of an asshole you are.
