Cool idea here, but I think there's room for improvement. It definitely seems to fill a niche. As an old hex 'n counter player, 2D counters don't bother me the way they do some miniatures exclusive folks. However, I'm not keen on the top-down aesthetics. I'd rather see profiles/portraits of the troops being depicted. I also think it would help to give each army its own background color on the counters to help differentiate it from the enemy. White on white makes me have to squint to see whose guys are whose, when it should be clear at a glance which forces are where. I'd also reflect the command units directly on the counters. Having to stack those tiny counters on top not only obscures the artwork, but means they're liable to go flying off when being moved or bumped.
Anyway, it's cool to know this exists, and I'd be interested in seeing how they continue to develop their product. Thanks for sharing it with us, Stos!
Some very good feedback! 👏
Good point, with profiles..
Really glad U came up with the presentation. The idea behind the game looks interesting and it comes from the Land Down Under :) To be fair, this is how me and my friends play 6ed: we print our regiments on paper and the only money we spend is a beer for the game.
It's a great way to get started or test your army out whilst you're building and painting a miniature version.
The first thing I thought of was Holiday-hammer! The hobby is lovely but takes a lot of premium space when going away.
Very interesting. This would be a great way to cheaply test out armies before investing heavy $$$ into it. This might just be my opinion (being half blind) but unique base colours might be cool to differentiate the forces. Love your work, mate.
I just ordered a set. I like to help out start up ideas.
seems like a great idea. especially for getting your kids into the game at an affordable price where the rules don't matter as much, so the size difference won't really have an impact
It's a reasonably cheap method of trying out a new army before spending a small fortune and days of work on GW plastic.
Agreed I use proxies like this all the time!
But this is not the right way to hobby. If you need to try a faction before you buy it means you are not atracted to the looks. How it plays can evolve and once the army becomes poopoo, you will throw it away.
Or I can play on a number of PC programs that are cheaper than one of these starter sets which doesn't look like a version of TSR battlesystems from the early 80s 😂
"But this is not the right way to hobby" is a sentence that you should never use. Ever.
Not the right way to hobby? LOL! Keepin your fedora on a bit too tight are you? @@PyromancerRift
I think we need Damon back in action sooN! Seems like sucha nice guy! I miss his goats! ;)
Interesting product. I can see it filling a certain niche as you say. Maybe taking them on holidays or camping trips etc…but then 10mm or 15mm would likely work just as well in that case…albeit still requiring a paint job so it just depends on the exact reason you wanted tiles instead of minis.
I would not mind to have an army of wartiles I will never buy and paint. but I would still play
This is definitely not for me, coz I like painting miniatures more than gaming. But looking at these I was wondering why bases are not finished. What, are they standing in the matrix void where neo ask for more guns? Are we supposed to paint them on our own or are these supposed to be played on white sheet of paper? Modiphius just recently released Mythic Commander and their troop tiles are on grass and look great. Another thing I would prefer would be to add the actual art for unit champions, standards and musicians. I know that it would probably limit the options, but it would look so much better.
Thanks for the review!
I had something similar in the early 90s. Had an orc and goblin and elven paper cut out token set. From the edition of warhammer when you had level 5 10 etc to 25 hero's
Just played my first game yesterday. I really liked it. I think it flowed like sixth, where movement is very important, requiring more, smaller units, but combat was slower and not as swingy which led to correct positioning leading to victory. I thought I wouldnt like all the special rules, and indeed we spent more of the game looking at each one and trying to figure out how they played out. But they added so much flavor to the game that made each unit unique in a way 6th ed doesnt have.
However my friend group isnt power gamers so Im not sure were pushing the system to its breaking point
That's great to hear!
I love this channel! It’s the best content for Warhammer!
Nice! Cool idea!
Thanks for the interesting Presentation, Miniatures are another Feeling (for me) but my Start in Tabletop was only Games with strong Paper Counter (and I have a lot in my Archives). A good Idea to show multiple Arts of playing the Game. Very interesting for new Ones or lesser Accounts. Nice to see you
Love this type of product! It has been around for historicals for a while. It reminds me of old, top-down RTS games. Shame about the sizes. Did the creator say anything about it?
First collab, heck yeah! Things are looking up for our favorite dwarf :) On a serious note tho, this product certainly has its advantages.. Cannot be compared to the real deal, but its not meant to be.. And also, gotta support the local businesses! Im hoping for tow battle report in the near future tho, the rules are solid!
My money is currently earmarked for when the mighty Orc horde descend upon the Old World, but this is a nice showcase for the other gaming platforms that exists outside of the large Games Workshop bubble. More options are always a good thing!
Could be a nice and cheap way to try out new armies before buying tones of miniatures
I like the idea but this is a hard product to see success I think because if I want to play Flathammer I can cut up bits of paper myself and just write what the units are supposed to be. I guess if I wanted it to be a bit higher quality I could buy cardstock and print off some stickers to put on it.
I wonder why they don't use the reverse side as well. You could essentially have 4 armies in this set instead of 2.
I also wonder why they didn't colour code the "bases." I think they might look more "readable" with a dark coloured backdrop and brighter "models." For example imagine the Empire models were on cobblestones and the Orcs were on dirt. This would also greatly help my idea of using the reverse side because you could quickly flip all the models to the same set at a glance.
saw this and was really hoping for NECROMUNDA. I'll still watch it.
What an interesting concept! I definitely remember a few summers up north playing 5th edition with my cousin using paper markers many, many moons ago, where this would've been a welcomed product! Has there been any response regarding the size discrepancies? I agree, they are a bit of turn-off in this regard.
They have indeed responded that they intend to address them 😁
Nice product, reminds me of Warhammer Fantasy 2nd edition, there were tiles in that box.
Is the WarTiles front and back cover yellowed card or paper? if its card, a quick grid on the flip sides and a pair of scissors, templates for movement trays, maybe a line or two on construction tips, cannibalize the packaging or templates and cereal boxes for movement trays, perfect.
It's card! Great suggestion 👌
good vid bud for those tht want to try b4 u buy etc..... Also do u think its time u named a dwarf hero REG after your home page.. its up there on the banner page, Rogue Element Gaming (REG) and a dwarf head.... just a thought lol
Not for me as I love the hobby but definitely good for those who wish to play games fast.
Agreed!
"Could this print out cardboard game replace a miniature hobby?"
Bro are you zeeted out on something?
Bro, I'm defs zeeted
Glad they reached out to you and you made the vid but.. I am fine with GW and 6th Ed and TOW.. For now.. You never know what happens I guess.. :)
I rather see new players start out with a Mordheim band or something.. Paint a warband.. No need to rush intoa full army.
Or use cards with the unit name on them to save even more money?
Pass for me
I tried the discount code but it doesn't seem to be working. Still gunna buy it, though.
Hi! I just checked and it's active, make sure the capitals are correct: RogueElementGaming20
If still having trouble let me know and I'll log in and get you a specific one
Wartiles here, code looks active just check code is capital exact: RogueElementGaming20
If still having trouble I can go in the back end and get a new one for you.
Woops! I misspelled it in the description. All fixed now. 😅
@@rogueelementgaming Right on. Thanks.
I don’t know man.
Don’t want to be rude or anything but this is a bit suspicious. The company seems very amateurish to me : the fact that the tiles aren’t sized correctly is just incredible. It should be the base of the product .
The website also is essentially just a link to buy this starter kit. No background , how long have they been on the market ? Did they produce another wargame before or is it their first try? Finally it doesn’t feel cheap to me : 30€ (EU) for printed cardboard (+shipment I guess) feels way overpriced for a concept that is supposed to be free from the beginning.
I hope I am wrong and that people will enjoy this game but I would advice (if I may) to be more cautious and informative with the companies that approche you in the future as your channel starts to grow 👍
2D 😢… not for me. Same as playing on a computer to me
No this cannot 😂 Years ago TSR had Battkesystems, same idea and that was over 40 years ago. This is not going to replace the visual spectacle of the miniature hobby. At this level better to just play on a computer because this is a waste of time
This is standard poorhammer, except you have to pay someone else to make it for you. It completely defeats the purpose of poorhammer.
Meh. This product would have done well in the 70s or early 80s.
Yeah… I prefer miniatures.
Nooooooooooo! If you haven't slaved over painting your little mens, you have no appreciation of them and will callously waste them in battle!
