    So we've already done the bastard pack lift on the rear but before we lift the front of the Jeep, there are a few things I'd like to discuss. In this video, I'll explain the differences in front and rear lifts and go over the required components. I'll also show you how I plan to get 3.5 inches of lift on the front of the Bleepin Zombie Build Jeep Cherokee.

    Just got done installing my first lift on a 97 XJ. I went with a skyjacker 3 inch kit with the hydro shocks and new leaf packs vs. the add-a-leaf. Did everything with hand tools and a cheater bar... it was such an amazing learning experience and I'm glad I did the work myself. Everything you've touched on in this video is super important to take into consideration when attempting any type of lift. Its because of videos and channels like yours that I was able to do it for myself!

    I have 3.5in tuff country coils and I have been running the stock T-bar for over a year, it's not ideal, but it works. I simply drilled the axle mount over about 3/4-1in and bolted it back up and the front end was almost perfect. I finally decided to spend some money and bought a Ironman4x4 double-sheer trackbar with bracket. Can't wait!

    it's up to you buddy, depends on how you want to wheel it.

  • @bleepinjeep
    @bleepinjeep  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    once you go over 3.5 inches it is recommended. I'm at 3.5" and dont seem to have bump steer without one so its your call.

  • @whatatool
    @whatatool 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I busted my tcase on my 01 doing just a drop. 3" lift on a 2001 NEEDS sye, rear drive shaft, brake lines, lower control arms, bump stops, shocks, extended links and UPPER CONTROL ARMS if you want your alignment to be good and street safe. The 3" full leaf rough county lift did not come with uppers and it would not align properly. I had to get some upper adjustable arms. If it's a trail rig, do whatever makes you happy , but if you flex, you will rip your stock brake hoses off. My jeep steers just fine without a drop pitman and adjustable track bar but is recommended. 50k miles on it like this, no problems. Daily driver and 50k on the cheapest general grabbers. No cupping on tires and still have half my tread.

    I agree after a certain height. I have been running 1" blocks for years without a problem.

  • @bleepinjeep
    @bleepinjeep  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    the ZJ tie rod will be fine. when buying a used modified rig sometimes its hard to tell what they have done already. if they haven't added a longer track bar then your axle is going to be off center and ya, you need a longer or adjustable track bar. 1 -2 inch drop on the pitman arm should be about right for a 4.5 inch lift.

    I had no idea you were near Knoxville. Next time you go to windrock I wanna be there and bring some of my wheeling buddies. I'm in a 96 x 3" Rusty's springs 31s and 2 12s in the hatch. Gotta be able to rattle the mud off. Your vids are awesome too man I've referenced 2 builds with them. Very sound advice brother.

    I would order lifted XJ springs before ordering new stock ZJ springs... They are only about $120 for 3 inches. But my goal for this jeep is to use as many Junk Yard parts as I can for now.

    well the shocks too wich come with that kit. maybe a new track bar. It all depends how you want to wheel. The lift I made isn't any harder than installing new parts so I guess it would be up to you.

    I know you said your lift sizes for parts needed where just guess's but from what I've head from friends and read on forums. and SYE or T-Case drop is almost 100% needed after 4.5 if not 3.5. I have a friend who just put a 3" Rustys lift on his XJ and hes getting vibes from just 3". So like everyone says EVERY jeep is different.

    Hey Matt, what's happenin. Finally decided on a rig. Found a younger gentleman on CL looking to get out of "the game". 99 with 160k. Brand new 31x10.5, 4.5 rough country lift with an ADD leaf and shackles, coils, shocks, drop sway bar connects, transfer case spacers, Tube lower control fronts. Now I am looking to start where he left off. I was looking at some budget build lists and found the ZJ tie rod and sleeve upgrade but wasn't sure if having 4.5 lift still applies to me.

    If I already have a 4.5 inch suspension lift on a 97 xj, to add lift can I just put six inch leaves in and spacers in the front and still be good with drive shafts? I already have the tcase dropped in the front and if the backs not good couldn't I just use axel shims? feed back would be great thanks!

    Ya if I had to choose..I'd leave it stock. lifting mine just 2.5 caused all kinds of work you are not ready for. from transfer case drop to longer pitman arm. and it is slower from the bigger tires. my wife's stock one is better on gas and faster than mine which is lifted just 2.5 inches

    +BleepinJeep First I would like to say Thank you, your vids are completely helpful and I enjoy them. I have a question and hope to hear from you. I just purchased a 3" Jeep Series II Sus. lift kit from Rough Country and steering stabilizer. I understand I need to get a longer brakes lines. I plan to purchase after market wheels (for 31x10.50 tires), my question is will I still need to purchase 1.5" wheel spacers from rough country? and do I need to purchase 4 of them or just for the front. This is my first time taking this challenge and I have all tools and a garage to work in. The Jeep is a 98 XJ and it's for my son. Also could you recommend some black steel wheels or specific steel wheel specs, not crazy because of limited budget. Thank you Sir and look forward to you next vid.

    In your opinion what would be the cheapest way to go to get a 3 to 4 inch lift on my 99 cherokee? I've kind of lost hours at work so money is a little tight, so I'm trying to go cheap but still want it to look good on or off road.

  • @wackpackxj

    Also noticed a listed pitman arm from another model that drops an inch. Is that enough? Ummmmm....the track bar? I have found that infamous play so obviously that needs attention but would I benefit from an adjustable at 4.5? I'm just trying to button up my steering because I'm getting clunks and pops. The driver side sway bar the actual sway bar is rubbing the "frame". All the sway bar bushings are junk. But I think it's bent?

    Thanks again for the videos. I bought a 1998 XJ with a 6" lift on 33s a few months back. I haven't noticed any vibes in the driveline at any speeds, so it looks like the pinion angle is set up correctly. Whoever did the lift just welded a small extension in the stock drive shaft to account for the lift though, so it still has the stock slip yoke. I have flexed the jeep pretty good a few times and have never noticed any drive shaft binding. I have the NP242 transfer case, so I was thinking of doing the hack-n-tap SYE kit and buying a used front drive shaft for the back. Do you think this is really necessary given that I'm not getting any vibes? Just not sure it's worth it to spend the money. My concern is whether or not this setup puts enough extra stress on the transfer case output shaft to jack up my t-case.

    So I found this after I lifted my jeep. Damn.
    Anyway, after putting a 3in rough country lift on my '01 XJ, I've noticed a pretty heavy grinding or scraping noise (I don't know where from) after taking my foot OFF the gas. It generally doesn't happen when I'm going 30-35 mph and slower but it's pretty distinct in the highway at 55+ mph. what could be the problem?

    • @cranjismcbasketball343
      @cranjismcbasketball343 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you haven't done a transfer case drop that is most likely your problem. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to replace your drives haft u joints because that would probably help as well because if your worn, after you lift it it would be wearing at a different angle which could cause some noise/grinding problems.

      Even after only 3 inches with stock size tires? How dangerous is it to not fix the noise and just get used to the grinding?

      Eric Schaertl I'd definitely get around to doing a tcase drop and changing the rear driveshaft u joint. 30$ for tcase drop and 15$ for a u joint. That being said I wouldn't call it a danger. Mine is lifted 2.5 in on 31s and I have the same thing. It's been like that for two months and replacing the u joint helped but doing a t case drop would completely eliminate the grinding without a doubt. So you are not in danger but should look at fixing the problem soon

      +matt sutter, ok. Would a transfer case drop be something covered in the Haynes manual? I ask because I have absolutely zero automotive skill.

      I'm sure there is a bleepinjeep video on how to do a t case drop. As far as buying a t case drop I would just go on amazon and search "jeep cherokee 1 inch tranger case drop" and they will be around $30. I'll send you a link of a how to video.
