As a kid these growling monsters gave me nightmares after traveling from Nottingham to Bedford and back. Just the sound and size of a 37 passing through a station at full thrash shattered the ground.
I miss the ground shaking at night when pairs of 37's thrashed past the bottom of the garden of my parents house on frieghtliner trains. Nothing else is quite as awesome and I've seen them all.
I have watched numerous class 20's and 37's on this line which went to Birch Coppice with the coal trains and Baddersley with the merry go round trains. I worked at Kingsbury oil depot at the time and use to watch them going up and down from the top of the tanks till the line closed. The section of track on the video was dug out deeper and extra bridge supports put in place under the bridge, I think it was to level the track a bit to reduce the incline.
I used to drive triple headers with 45 wagons of coal on when I was a fireman out of eastfield traction depot springburn Glasgow I was only 19 years old my uncle was a mainline driver and he would let me drive on the night shift I also drove the 37s from queen st station Glasgow to Oban on the west highland line day shift and night shift on what we called the ghost train 1974
remember these beasts when I was a lad heard them before you saw them used to sit on the bridge edge and feel them shake the ground as they thundered past only a few feet away
Type 3's as we used to call them back in the 60s we used to rush home from school to catch the irmingham tanks through Preston allways a double headed type 3

I'd love to see rakes of vans grain hoppers mixed goods trains back on the national network. With Brexit we have the chance to regulate and rein in road haulage by making trucking pay its costs
Yes, and with Brexit we can start having an empire again too with lots of sailing ships and people dancing the horn pipe (because I haven’t got a clue what I mean either).

@@SJWebb OK maybe not inefficient and I'm not an expert but what I've seen is UK locomotives are garbage. Perhaps they work well for what they are intended... In North America it's all long distance so the prime movers are way way better

looking at the amount of hgvs in Dover at the moment, there is more to be said for sorting out cross channel freight into distribution hubs.
