"DK Oysters" is the name of the restaurant. Definitely recommend reading the reviews when you have some free time. Some unnamed individual was considerate enough to mark the place as permanently closed to help deter future customers.
Saw this review: Be warned though, they probably won't be called DK Oyster bar by the time they open next summer as they change their name every couple of years. Previously they've been Yefsi Sports bar and other names. It's the one in front of the Kosmoplast Hotel.
Always ask for food prices even if you think it's embarrassing, no matter how fancy a restaurant is they almost always have prices on the menu or you pay for a table in advance. If a normal restaurant doesn't have prices on the menu it's a scam.
I know no one’s going to believe me, but I actually ate at that restaurant when I was on vacation in 2006. It’s on a very small and private beach. The price was $60! How can anyone charge more than that??” 🤣🤣 lmao that was actually hilarious. I mean sure, $650 is waaaay over priced, but comparing red lobsters price to a classy Greek restaurant is like saying Olive Garden is authentic Italian food. Or Taco Bell is authentic Mexican food.

When I was 15 I went to Europe as a student ambassador. We had to be educated on how to avoid all the scammers and scams, especially in Greece and France (both otherwise incredible countries). One that happened to me was this man ushered us into his pizza place Anne cheerily saying he gave students special pricing and said it would be €20, €4 per person. We were in a group of five and we ALL heard and understand this, and even clarified with him. Suddenly the bill comes out…and he’s charging us €20 per person, per small personal pizza. We mention to him how HE even said “cheap, only €4 per person for 5!”. He called us liars and became belligerent saying Americans were disrespectful. We weren’t giving in. We said we would call our chaperones and immediately he went “fine just give €35!”, we again said no, that he offered them at €4 per small personal pizza. We paid €20. Be aware of local prices and don’t let people scam you. Europe is unfortunately filled with scammers everywhere you go.
I live in Greece and that price tag is CRAZY...wow...shame on that restaurant owner...Don't be afraid to go to the Greek Police...They will help you and you don't need to feel intimidated.
I hope the Greek police actually investigates their restaurant… After reading all the reviews I feel so bad for the people that get scammed there, and apparently that restaurant changes their name every few years they or so. HOW HAVE THEY NOT BEEN CAUGHT/TAKEN DOWN YET??
I had the same thing happen in Italy, in a small restaurant, not far from the Spanish Steps. We ordered one pizza and one plate of spaghetti without meatballs, they told me it was about 42 euros and then when they process the charge of my credit card I got the alert that I was charged almost 500 USD. Of course I confronted the restaurant and received a refund, but imagine if I didn't get the alert. Unbelievable! And I'm sorry to say but this happened to me several times throughout Italy, restaurants overcharging for mediocre food.
Yes I ain't goin over seas with all their scams haha and they're scared to come to the USA cuz they're afraid they're going to get shot haha maybe 4% likely of that happening now getting scammed over there guaranteed 100%
My uncle had this same experience in a different country. In his case he is a 6'3 mma fighter but was still pressured into paying over $500 for a single drink. He told the guy off and walked out, cops were sitting right outside (most likely in on it). The cops asked him when confronted "did you ask how much the drink was?". He ended up having to pay unfortunately.
its called DK Oyster and its full of reviews like this: " Don’t ever try this place. Biggest scam ever. Waiter refused to show us the menu upfront but after we ordered what we explicitly said said must be the lowest priced options, we still end up with a €700 bill. Best part is that we ordered cheese and wine. The cheese was €285 alone"
Yep, they did the same thing to a group of US servicemen about 4 yrs ago, and that went viral. Personally, I think the restaurant is a front for money laundering and other criminal enterprises.
Also one can look at review sites like tripadvisor and yelp like the Inside Edition team did. I rarely go to a new restaurant these days without at least checking the reviews and info on google first. Heck I work at a restaurant and I'm astounded by the amount of people (of all ages not just older people) who don't use this tool before wandering into the restaurant or calling. They even ask me things like "do you know another restaurant that does/serves (this thing I'm looking for)?" "Do you know the number/address to (other place)?" as if one person would have the same level of knowledge of local businesses that Google or even the phone book/city directory has
DK Oyster is the name of the restaurant if anyone's wondering. Trip advisor actually stopped any new reviews from being posted on their site (no doubt because this video blew up) and people were just trying to call them out/spread the word. But still though, if you give em a quick Google search, you can see the previous negative reviews from people who actually dined at the restaurant. Also they have a two star rating, which cracks me the hell up. I'm sorry, but jerks like that deserve to go out of business.
I would summon Judge Dredd from hell if need be to stop this tomfoolery. Being in a foreign land definitely gives them the residents the edge over casual tourists, that’s why I always recommend having a local friend, hope they settle things.
As a greek who only travels at my own country those last 5 years, yes the food is freaking high on price on islands. I had visited this specific island too but not to that restaurant . IF YOU VISIT MY COUNTRY BE CAREFUL, IN PLACES LIKE ISLANDS WHERE A LOT OF TOURISTS GO , EVERYTHING IS MORE EXPENSIVE
This is what you get if you go to Mykonos. As a Greek, I would advise anyone to go on much better, more beautiful and underrated islands that have authentic tavernas, at very decent prices.
Also Mykonos is a gay island, Santorini is more famous and not gay. My father was ambassador to Greece for 4 years and we never been to Mykonos on our holidays.

It was an amazing experience from start to finish!
Sadly this practice has happened for decades and always to tourists in all countries. Never buy or eat anywhere with no prices, they will look and judge you to see how much to charge
Facts. This is common knowledge in UK since its easier for us to visit these southern European countries. The main tip is avoid any place which doesn't advertise prices. And ask before you order.

Tourists visiting and enjoying your beautiful country and bringing economic flow to your hometown while appreciating the beautiful scenes that you take for granted every day, only to be a POS and rip them off for some regular seafood is so, so, so damaging to not only your restaurant, but also your town's reputation, and that's not even factoring in how trashy that behavior is to begin with.

Tourist menu's won't have prices or if they do, they'll be dble the local or like the other commenter says "market prices". Tourist menu's will differ from local menus too. They also won't want you to read a menu and just order whatever the waiter encourages you to buy. Like if you ask for a menu, the waiter will ask what you feel like eating and the chef can make something just for you or anything to get you to not read a menu. Lol. Easy tip - if a restaurant in Europe does not display a menu with prices at the venue entrance and you don't speak the local language, they're gonna scam ya. move to the next restaurant. ;-)
In another interview they were offered chairs on the beach/near the beach for free and then staff kept bugging them to order something so they looked at the menu ordered small things and when they got their they got their check it was just a receipt that said they owed $600 or whatever they were charged. Then they ask for an itemized receipt. Questioned the amount And then they were threatened.
This happened to me in Rome , Italy. Now I don’t go to restaurants in foreign countries. I feel the same way she does “I never should have gone to that restaurant!”
That's ashame. Unfortunately that happens a lot when you go to a country that's having financial problems. Desperate people do desperate things. I had someone try that on me in Mexico. I told them to charge me a reasonable amount or I'm walking out that door and good luck trying to stop me. They brought in some buff dude to try to intimidate me and I simply told him even if I go down you won't come out unscathed. They finally agreed to charge me $20 (still too much) and I left.
Yes Mykonos has financial problems it's not like everyone that lives in that Island is insanely rich. First educate yourself before speaking, this island is like the Monte Carlo of Greece.
Always ask for a menu with prices. My brother got screwed over in Italy by a pizza place that didn’t give upfront prices and got hit with $80 bill for a crappy pizza. Try to eat where the locals go.
That’s an outright scam. She needed to photograph her itemized bill, then photograph the menu with the prices listed. Then she at least has proof to use for legal restitution.

I had a private chauffeur when I went to Greece and he would steer us away from places that try to rip off tourist and negotiate for us with vendors. He was also a historian so he made the trip, me being a history buff myself, much more enjoyable.
Few year ago, I went on a date on Ocean Drive in South Beach Miami. When we got the menu I noticed that prices weren't listed. I told my date that as a principle, I always ask for prices when they aren't listed, due to a very bad and costly previous experience, she replied "as everybody should". I asked for the price of a cocktail that sounded and looked like it was out of this world, $60+ the waiter said... before I could even offer my date to leave she whispered "Let's go, I know a better place...". The rest is history! The fear of embarrassment often get people in unnecessary situation or trouble.

True, menu's should definitely show prices,
Yep. I mean I don't know specifically about Greek law, but you can charge any amount for anything, unless it's gouging for necessities during a disaster. So, if you don't know the price up front, don't assume you're willing to pay it.

"DK Oysters" is the name of the restaurant. Definitely recommend reading the reviews when you have some free time. Some unnamed individual was considerate enough to mark the place as permanently closed to help deter future customers.

Always ask for food prices even if you think it's embarrassing, no matter how fancy a restaurant is they almost always have prices on the menu or you pay for a table in advance. If a normal restaurant doesn't have prices on the menu it's a scam.
Sounds like me 💀, not in restaurant, but every store or market
Fancy restaurants don’t put prices. They just put MP. You would have to ask server.
Actually many fancy restaurants don't have prices
Why would you be embarrassed to ask for prices? I'll ask for the price of a water bottle if I have to..
Some of these places aren't that fancy and they will over charge still.

It’s an expensive place, but we fortunately weren’t scammed. I’m of Greek heritage but am 100% American. Maybe they let us off because my dad spoke Greek and we looked Greek. What was the name of the restaurant? I notice most of these comment threads seem to omit even giving the name.
This is the kind of situation where it is not even about the money, but the principle.
Not to victim blame, but as a traveller myself, this is exactly why I read reviews before going places. If I’m ever offered a menu without prices, I also either ask the price before ordering or refuse to eat there (it’s amazing how quickly prices go down in some places when you get up to leave). When travelling somewhere outside your home, it’s always a good idea to do as much research as possible to avoid scams like this.

I wonder what it feels like to be so rich you don’t even look at the prices before you buy things. I wouldn’t know...
$60...u exposed red lobster as ripping u off too
@@agent1up I was expecting around 15 USD
I always ask the price beforehand. I’ve heard of this happening in Italy.
Lol using Red Lobster to compare... "Balenciaga tried to charge me 800 dollars for some white sneakers.. When I went to Walmart for white sneakers.. Only 20 dollars"
Disneyland charge 15 dollar for a hotdogs. when I go to Costco, only $$1.50
