Around this time Dr Clive Bradley and charlo always come to my toughts ... SIEP guys Despers 2 D Bone Hugh Bando Errol Bandfiel Big sam Buffy Tash Sean The year was 1983 And I was here live on person Despers for life💥⚡☀👍
in my opinion i think this is the best arrangement i have ever heard in a panorama mind you i said '''ARRANGEMENT'' one could actually hear the song right through the entire rendition despite all the all the ''IMPROVISATIONS,, BEST INTRO TOO
what an introduction, ,putting you in the mood for what is to come next a brilliant arrangement from a master. in a class by itself. brilliant passages on the middle pans accompanied by the sweetest basses in the steelband movement. Bradley and Despers at their best. certainly my choice for the best pan arrangement I've heard.
As a yought living in Despers pan yard it was fun for me. The sound of Despers pan sounded like asid rain to me.Rich and makes you.feels like uou are in Heaven jus loving the sound of.steel. Broadly. Beverley. Robert G. They are all heroes I still play this song almost everyday Love me Despers....... Wish those days can come back... Ddespers 4life.
aye sylvan, i don't know if you remember me but we used to talk pan and in particular drumming, because i think you were an aspiring drummer.on the drum set and you always spoke about roger the band drummer and how you liked his style of drumming. we used to hang on federick street where you sold clothes and talk pan all day, and then i migrated in the late eighties and i never saw you again, but good knowing you're still doing your thing. god bless you brother.
One of the greatest panorama tunes ever played on oil drums (rebecca) well done Mr Clive Bradley that tune left us with a lot of joy in our heart and soul what a classic great, great, great piece of music. (valentine Hammer Millette)
I jump up in Despers that Jouvert Morning and almost lost my mind, the music was so sweet but manic at the same time. Despers stayed on the road until midday no body wanted to go home, ever so often i watch this video and relived that moment. Since then up until now i never experienced a jump like unto that. This is Indeed a Classic well done Despers, Clive Bradley and Super Blue, "A Standing Ovatiion"
I could feel Bradley musical genius in this piece. His conflict with himself to keep sweet Rebecca or just allow breakaway Rebecca to leh go. However he did it, he kept her sweet and peppery at the same time.
Apart for Starlift's 'Du Du Yemi', this version of Rebecca still puts me on an emotional roller coaster. Lawd have Mercy! Can one piece of music be so perfect, so sweet, so funky & soulful, so Gad Damm exciting that it disturbs your nervous system like strong coffee wit toooo much condense milk?...EH!?
Best of the best... You should hear the slow version that they played on the drag prior to their final night performance.... I was there. On the grass at the Jerningham Avenue entrance. What a night !!!!!
Cathy, I am an Jit Samaroo and Fontclaire fan but I will say that all the arrangers brought something to party and these classics should be recorded in concert quality for posterity because, Jit, Bradley, Smooth, Boogsie et al are all geniuses and Trinidad will be kicking themselves if they allow this major gap in their cultural history. Can you imagine no one knowing what Mozart, Bach and Beethoven composed apart from a scratchy recording from Luxembourg TV from back in the 1980s?!!
the sounds, of freedom we are a blessed nation t and t our son, Clive Bradley see you in the next world.. thank you for sharing your skills and love with us
I always say this is the best ever played by Despers.i will never forget that panorama 2pm in the track despers had d crowd going mad.Like people escape from the assylam DESPERS are the best.
Clive Bradley's rendition of Rebecca is the sweetest pan music i had ever heard back in the 80s. it brings back so many memories of why i got into pan from school in the first place. Thank U Clive Bradley and very much! Daniel
My Partner Just Happy like pappy.wen he On cloud 9' watchin him Groovin outa time an conductin every neuance wen nessry.is realy a joy an sadd thing to watch.😃😄🤗 i like the Joy.e enjoyin his own music just like 'Sharpe' but he Razor Sharp🤗🤗
TO the two masters at arranging for the pan. great respect for both men. I'm am no fan of Des.. Or all stars. But, let me make this clear, when it comes to the better of the two Rebecca or woman on the bass. I'll give it to Rebecca. I've listen to these two pieces for years, and Clive rendition of Rebecca is music to die for. Listen to the prelude to the start of the verse where the melody started, pure genius. And the transitions Damn! yet clive kept the melody in the mist of each part.
one of the all time great arrangements - as a phase 2 and being biased only boogsie stands near - difference clive could ah read and write music and was always way back in esquire combo days with his key board- i guess u know clive taught maths and spanish also - when i first met him he was in advertising with a company upstairs kongs drug store in woodbrook - with gerry besson and them - god bless your soul and may u keep arranging wherever
Desperadoes,Rebecca / All Stars,Woman on the bass /Renegades,Iron man/Fonclair,Pan By Storm/ Phase 11 Woman is Boss and Exodus, Savannah Party. steel bands and their rendition that should go down in panorama history.
to continue: I'm not saying this for any argument here. but, fair is fair. When it comes to music Rebecca is it! I'm not just talking this, I'm a musician that plays several musical instruments and pan is one of them. I had play for Pamberi that year panorama and it was man damn! hear that piece, even today I still get goose bumps when I hear it. I've listen to each instrument on this piece even the damn drummmer. Bradley man take win. peace and blessings to the two masters Brad and smooth.
Forget the music and the orchestra...! Watch Bradley... is ah if he saying watch how ah wuh allyuh to dance/ move to this music!... watch the man body language!.... Carnival was in this Man soul !.... Listen the motif at 6.07.... The greatest ... by far!......Yuh hah tuh move with this kindah music!...
I have read comments that suggested ...... had All Stars played their version slower .... that would have made the difference ....I believe it is fair to say that Bradley was in a class of his own .... he was never scared to take chances nor to go beyond the norm .... look what he did ..... Sailing with Pandemonium and also High Mass with Nutones ... both steelbands were never considered as top quality in the large category .... He used the same introduction and ending during this arrangement ..... He was never about WINNING .... it was about skill and knowledge .... Another Victory For Steelpan
We can all listen and say Clive was a master of pan but in no way does, he comes close to the genius of pan that is Leon Smooth Edwards. Clive had many a good year at Despers without a doubt, but ask anyone who knows good pan the most commanding tune ever and they would tell you Woman on the Bass. Just to prove it all of these bands played their signature song for the turn of the century competition in 2000 and All Stars came out on top once again. In a race to the top All Stars holds the record of five out of the ten most memorable songs ever plaid on pan. Please do not get me wrong Rebecca was an excellent performance by Desperado's and will live on as their greatest achievement, however that is just one of many to choose from.
M365. What!! that's pure blasphemy to do so. Bradley understood passes, chord progressions, how to execute them to their best ability not to just create hype, but to go deep into the rudiments of the song itself. Very innovative, in creating the overtones and also the smoke and mirrors. Smooth is cliche, monotonous, predictive in every pass he does. From woman on the bass to now, (2015) been the same thing over and over, thus you can easily anticipate his next move as the song goes along. Some of the judges for panorama need a bitch slap for the many times Smooth got away with the same damn musical arrangements. The major scales, been Smooth playground and that's kindergarden stuff. That's like comparing a 5 course meal at the Waldorf Astoria as to a two piece at KFC, no comparison! Do not compare these two. Yes smooth is a master that got away with cheap tricks, but as to Bradley, Nooooooo, that's weak!!
Yes damn it it bullshit per minute man once twice 3 times . But the jokes on us for accepting this we are dumn down panorama judges Trinbagonians are not fools to good creativity in art.
Maxam if u ask smooth the aranger of woman on the bass who is the greatess arranger ever he would say clive bradley music to plz judges players audience and any ears listening is clive bradley
excuse me, not oil drums anymore, instruments were crafted/fabricated from oil drums, OK they are musical instruments/steel pans, we LOVE our creation, I can say we, I played..
can't understand why Maxman 365 using smooth Edwards and Bradley in the same sentence, that's an improper sentence friend if there's such a thing, Bradley's in a class by himself.
Two extremely skilled geniuses should never be compared. They are/were both unique with their talents. For the sake of competition on a particular night one band would have been judged as better but there is no better or worse with the Arrangers. These are/were (for Bradley) two of THE most skilled musical ears we have ever been priviledged to benefit from. 💥EXCELLENCE💥
And one more thing; I love this band. Win, or Loose, there will never be another Despers and Bradley.
this is class Pan at it's verybest superb arrangent. R.I.P Bradley your music lives on.

This was when Pan was a religion in T&T and Panorama was the Mecca for the High Mass.
The Intro alone was enough to win the Panorama far less the rest of this classic. You just can't beat this. Simply the BEST.
Great performance

How many of the desperadoes players of 1983 are still paying in the band in 2022 this is a question for Mr desperadoes himself,
@Pantastic88 Yes!
