    I have half a room of makeup I didn't need. But I'm working on making sure it does not repeat itself

    The comment about trends is so spot on. Makeup formulas, shades and the techniques used really have to suit to you as an individual. "Flatters all skintones" - does not exist. My eyelash curler and waterproof mascara are indispensible to my lashes, but if it doesn't do that much for you why would you spend the time on that step? No one has to do all the things, just find the things that they like that work for them.
    An aside - I've saved a couple setting spray bottles that work really well. Cleaned them up and set them aside so if I get a wonky setting spray nozzle I can quickly sanitize one with a bit of isopropyl alcohol and pour the product into it saving $$

    Love the concept of this video - specifically totaling up how much you could’ve saved (something I’m personally scared to do). Glad this video came in time to stop me from impulse o ur chasing makeup I don’t need for Black Friday.
    I’m embarrassed by how long my list ACTUALLY is, so here are just the ones I actively regret (as opposed to things I definitely didn’t need, but still use enough):
    - Rare Beauty Silky Touch Highlighter (I’ve used twice)
    - Rare Beauty Always an Optimist Primer (I forgot my skin doesn’t like silicone primer)
    -ELF Halo Glow liquid filter (I HATED this. It was so yellow and it made me look sweaty and cakey)
    - MILK under eye brightener (been trying to finish this for months with no end in sight. It’s patchy on me)
    -MILK Kush Mascara (if I’d actually read all the reviews to see how badly it smudges)
    - Jones Road Lip Tint - ONLY bc the shade I got makes my teeth look excessively yellow. Otherwise it’s a nice product
    - three different (🤦🏻‍♀️) mini (like 4 shades each) Tarte eye pallets (I DIDNT NEED THESE)
    -Tarte from the sea serum foundation (I don’t use and I didn’t need! I got it because it was on sale. Bad move)
    In my defense, I just got back into makeup this past year when I stopped living paycheck-to-paycheck for the first time in my life. It was the first time I owned more than one type/shade of a product at once. I’m glad I got to experiment more, but man I wasted a lot of money and created a lot of waste.
    I’m proud of myself for seriously cutting back the second half of the year - your videos helped a lot!

    I just rebought the Milani eyeshadow primer too. Old faithful. I’m sticking with it from now on.
    My regrets:
    1. Urban Decay Naked3 palette - I just don’t use it enough
    2. Natasha Denona mini love palette - colour story isn’t the best on me.
    3. ColourPop blush in Frisky Business - it’s way too powdery and way too bright orange.

    I pretty much regret all the purchases I’ve made from Pat McGrath and Natasha Denona. Both are extremely overhyped, especially ND. I much prefer Huda. I love everything I have from the brand.

    • @SarahRoseBeauty
      @SarahRoseBeauty  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Huda is definitely on my list to try soon!!

    • @berlineczka
      @berlineczka ปีที่แล้ว +4

      And here is me, regretting PMG (a holiday 5 pan that has a meh formula, a lipstick that is meh, and a lip pencil that is ok, but so is nyx for 7$) AND some Huda (I do not regret the loose powder, but I very much regret the Naughty palette, and I could have skipped the mini Nude Medium too, as all the looks look the same on me and the shimmers crease fast and terribly without glitter glue).
      I do not regret ND. I have 4 midis, five 5-pans, a lipstick and a cream blush/highlighter duo. I like/love them all. Sure, I have my favourites and if I lost them all, I would probably not repurchase everything but only the absolute favourites - but while I have them I use them from time to time. The only one I decluttered was Mini Biba, as the beetrooty undertone was clashing with my olive skin too much.

      I thought I was the only one thinking that. Everyone's been raving so much about ND and Pat MacGrath that I ended up buying the retro glam palette from ND and almost bought at the same time a Pat McGrath one. When I got the palette, I immediately regretted it as soon as I opened it. The palette didn't look quite as lovely as it looked on pictures. Most of the shades ended up so similar to each other, you could have cut the palette in half and it wouldn't be noticeable. And everything looked so gray on me. Even swatching the lightest matte green shade on my hand, I swear it looked so gray (with a bit of blue) that I could barely even see the green in it 😭
      Ended up going at the store and literally swatching and having a look at every single palettes at Sephora so I wouldn't make the same mistake. The only palettes that remotely looks good shade and quality wise now are the two newest Huda ones for me. Pat McGrath just looked plain boring. I'm now forcing myself to use the ND palette a ton because of how expensive it was.

    If you were going to throw out the eye primers you might consider using them as face primers, I've heard eye primer works well under undereye concealers, as primer in smile lines to prevent creases and on the nose to get foundation to stick there 😊

    I recently picked up the Essence eye shadow primer. Since it's so inexpensive, I really didn't have any high expectations. It was around $5 or $6, and much to my surprise, it's great! I also have really oily eyelids, and my eye shadow hasn't creased once since I've been using it. Only drawback is that it's clear, so it doesn't blank out the veins and such. I'm ok with it bc it's not like my veins show through the eye shadow once it's applied. If that doesn't bother you either, then I highly recommend.

    I hope you do a video on the Flower Beauty eyeshadow palettes! I forgot to add this comment to the video you were asking for suggestions. I really want to purchase one of those palettes, but not sure which color story I would like the most. So a video comparing them would be appreciated! I too have regrets about purchases, but I am glad that at least on some products I now know what shades I don't like on myself so I won't need to purchase those shades in the future. Great video! 😀

    Gosh I so wish I had eye lashes that don’t need to curl!!!
    Even if I curl and only use waterproof mascara, sometimes it doesn’t hold the curl and just go back to straight and down!

    Last year I got the Makeup by Mario palette, totally suckered in by the sparkly shades and limited edition of it all. I have NOT used it enough to justify $70 (!!!). I already had similar neutral matte shades, and those lovely sparkly shades are too much to be wearing into the office (y'know, the place i spend most of my makeup wearing time).
    Should have kept using my existing mattes and layering Colourpop Ritz 😅 AND I still prefer Ritz because the supershock formula stays in place on my eyes better!

    • @starbug3408
      @starbug3408 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have to use an eyelash curler! My lashes will just point down if I don’t use one. But if you don’t need it, I say skip where you can!
    My hair fizzes a little with my waver but if I use a smoothing cream and whip a straighter through it first real quick it solves the problem.

    I bought the Fenty Eeaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint instead of my usual Nars one and it broke me out 😖Thankfully I was able to resell it and get some of the money back. I've also decided that I'm only using my favourite mascaras from Mac and Clinique from now on because I have had too many underwhelming ones in the past to count. When you find your favourites it rarely pays off to stray from them.

    You know, I do regret buying a hair product too-- a styling brush that dries my hair. It's nice as far as the effect, but it's so huge that it's wasted on my paltry amount of thin, fine hair. It looked like a normal curling iron size in the pics, but when I got it, it was huge!

    I got the Too Faced Hangover Pillow Balm in banana. The product is ok. It has a weird cooling feeling. And it collects above the stopper and it’s a goopy mess. I used a $10 off coupon so it was $16 instead of $26. I’m disappointed, but I’m glad I didn’t get the holiday set.

    I have several of the Chantecaille single shadows that I love. But, I saw Pangolin swatched (it's pretty swatched), but I'm not sure what it's purpose is on my eyes. It doesn't seem like there's enough base to it because I have to layer a deeper purple under it to make it look less...ineffective. I also bought the Stella highlighter from Chantecaille and it's lovely, but on my skin tone, it just looks like a glowy finishing powder. Otherwise, I don't tend to regret buying (or overbuying) makeup, I just take a while to get into the swing of using certain products.

    Looking back, I’ve bought so many makeup products just because they were on sale. I have a couple of Morphe Eyeshadow palettes that I’ve hardly used, lip products in colors I don’t use, random Tj max / marshalls makeup😭 I’m so mad I bought a Benefit cheek set, it came with two mini bronzers and like 3 mini blushes that DO NOT look good on my skin😭 I also try to make all of my makeup products work, just because the money was already spent 🙃

    Saie SlipTint -- $50 CDN worth of oily, streaky regret. I managed to make it work with mattifying primers, but I kind of resent the extra step. Even on my dry skin, it's just too oily! Will finish, won't repurchase!

    Everything from the Pillow Talk and Walk of no shame line from Charlotte Tillbury. I picked up the Christmas sets last year ( cream shadow, eyeliner, lipstick, lipliner ) and they are the most overhyped colors and texture I ever tried.
    I especially didn't like the Pillow Talk quad. That glitter shade is just unusable, kids makeup quality.
    One thing I would buy for triple the price the Revlon One Step Styler (or anything that has the same shape). I rarely use my Airwrap nowadays because it's just faster to grab the Revlon and have a blowout look.

    I bought the REM mascara just to try something from the brand on a whim and it was the worst product I used all year. I bought the Milani eyeshadow primer because Emily Noel recommended it I used it once, I never used it again because I didn't see a difference so I thought it didn't work but now I think it didn't do anything because I don't actually need a eyeshadow primer because my eyeshadow never really creases I guess I'm really not sure what people mean when they say their eyeshadow creases , does it separate or form lines or something? I just don't use it.
