He's literally reduced to a frightened animal. Then that shot of Tiana, equally as horrified. She didn't mean to do that, to literally condemn his soul to the loa
@@typo1345 He condemned himself when he put out his soul as payment if he failed which he did. Odds are that he would've failed some other way sooner or later and met the same fate, Tiana simply prevented him from causing anymore harm with his wicked plans.
Did you see Tiana's face at the end and how horrified she looked? I've noticed that in a lot of kids movies when the villain dies, the hero doesn't always cheer or smile with triumph. Instead he/she gives a look that says "I didn't mean to kill you"

Mama Odie did Voodoo if I'm not mistaken, and she was one of the good guys. I feel like Disney did a good job of portraying a good side and a bad side, even if it wasn't totally accurate... Frank G Yep, he lived well beyond his means like many people do in real life and paid for it BIG time. You could say that his "friends on the other side" were creditors and tax collectors......
ryan macdonald This scene reminds me of America's national debt: someone borrowed too much from too many people too many times, everyone wants their money back, the debtor makes excuses for their reckless behavior, and everything goes to shit for the debtor.
Frank G Exactly. This film was made around the time the U.S economy MAJORLY tanked so I guess the writers wanted to show that there were consequences to drawing too much debt from too many people......
bro, this FREAKED me out as a child, especially the beginning of this seen, his voice, the voice cracks, and the desperation to just be forgiven, it’s all so terrifying.

I can't be the only one who was MORTIFIED by this death. It is the only Disney death scene that has ever truly scared me. I remember having nightmares about this one for weeks when I saw the movie a few years ago.
contentjjigae I never realized how dark deaths in Disney movies were. In this movie, he's legitimately being dragged into Hell. In Tarzan, you can actually see the shadow of Claton's corpse when he got hung. And I never noticed this as a kid?
the edgiest edgelord that has ever edged Don't forget the Evil Queen falling off a cliff, getting crushed by a boulder and then being eaten by vultures! And that was Disney's first feature-length movie if I'm not mistaken!
This one never scared me even though its definitely creepy as fuck probably because I was older when I saw this but the one that always creeped me out was the villian from Atlantis lol the way he looked right before he died scared me so much
"It was nice to have that power. But when you're dealing in souls while also being a gambler, the stakes are pretty high. And losing as few hands can be more than a little dangerous. So when you're down on your luck, you turn to anything to keep you afloat. So I know what it's like to... regret the choices made. And... know when you can't take it back."
Kyle Stubbs I've seen it...this one takes the cake in my opinion, although the other is scary, this on is petrifying from a religious point of view (which i have)
Yeah srs. I'm surprised all these people feeling sorry for him and how he was just a victim of these "friends" he owed a debt to. Lol, granted, I only saw this movie once...but the impression I got is he was basically "using" the spirits on the other side against their wills for his own gain because he had the necklace thing that kept him in power and them subservient to him. But once it broke they were all pissed as hell
blackngold cuttlefish my impression was that it was a deal, the spirits weren't subservient to him, it was a mutually beneficial deal (with the spirits wanting souls in exchange for their help) I mean they were the ones that gave him the necklace during the 'friends on the other side' song And once the necklace was broken the spirits decided Facilier wasn't able to give them what they wanted I might be wrong though
Theory: Facilier was a dead man brought back to life after a deal with his "friends". An entire town's souls in exchange for his. Hence why he was: A - Stating he himself had a debt B - Had a gravestone there when he was swallowed up C - So willing and motivated to damn New Orleans to voodoo hell. D - Stated he's "not ready at all", and "that he needs a little more time". Heck, the amulet thing could've been his lifeline in a magical sense - if that broke, he was dead again and thus his "friends" would come to collect. Just makes the most sense out of the whole scene, since we don't know what debt he owes his friends on the other side.
Noah Donnell We could add them together. He got free from death but kept adding more debt. It seems from the start the VooDoo were happy about the whole thing.
@@soygato2722 His backstory states that he grew up poor as a child with a sick mother. Unable to pay for medicine, he resulted practicing Haitian voodoo, a lost tradition in his family line. He summoned his friends from the other side who helped cure his mother but at a cost: his life or his mother's. He begged for another way to repay them which was settled to be him helping them collect souls. He later grew to love his job, but with the amulet broken, he couldn't help collect souls for his friends anymore.

This scene is so scary but SOO COOL. It's gotta be one of the best things Disney's ever animated. Seriously, there's so much detail packed into just a single minute of animation, and each frame has its own detail that you'll miss the first time through. Here's just a few of the little details that sell the scene: -When the masks sing "ARE YOU READY?!?" for the first time, the center mask has a toothy, crooked grin. He knows what's coming, and he's looking forward to it. - Dr. Facilier's bangs peek out under the hat, just as he's coming unhinged. - The way he walks backwards as he justifies his "minor setback". He's still trying to smooth-talk his way out of this, but he's walking back carefully all the same; he knows he's boned. - The shadows that crawl up along the wall after the voodoo dolls burst forth. There's a busty, grinning lady on the left, two dudes and a smiling dog on the right, and they're all here for one reason: they wanna see the show. - Dr. Facilier actually stumbles as he walks backwards a little, and tries to pass it off as something he meant to do. The smooth-talking mask he wore is shattered by now, and now he's holding the broken pieces together pretending it never broke at all. - When Dr. Facilier backs up to the wall, his shadow cowers behind him. Then a flash of lightning, and the wall turns into a big mask. Its teeth are bared, and it takes him a minute to realize "oh shit the wall's gonna eat me!" and back away. - The doc's shadow actually turns just before being grabbed, as if to say "Where you goin' little man? Trying to leave me?" - As Doc's being dragged away, the glowing things that were flying around actually bounce up and down the ground, leaving drums everywhere they touch. - Also when he's dragged away, you can see a guy in shadows appear just as the mouth opens. He's the one pulling him; maybe he's the working-class Grim Reaper? - The mask is clearly grinning as he shuts his mouth; he lives for this part of the job. All of that. In one minute. I love Frozen, Wreck-it Ralph, and Big Hero 6 to pieces, but this? THIS is what makes Disney...Disney.
When I watched this as a kid I felt legitimate sorry for Facilier, the fear and panic on his face and in his body expressions are so clear and real, it chilling how this much emotion can be captured in a DISNEY movie!
Facilier reincarnated as a black cat with strange powers (speaking and portal travel) in a stop motion world, then when he died as the cat he became a cat-themed demon it all makes sense
@@typo1345 I like Hazbin Hotel and that's so cool and Alastor even resembles him because of his clothes and powers Husk is one of the cutest demon cats.
And then another few years later, Dr Facilier, reincarnated as a blue newt, impales a teenage girl with a fiery sword, and commits war crimes in Los Angeles.
Scar, Dr, and Jafar beat extraneous arguements. Facilier was a necromancer, Jafar had the most epic evil laugh of all time, and Scar killed his own brother, sent his nephew to die, and committed domestic violence all in one movie....so yeah - they're the best.
My first time seeing this, I thought this was a pretty creative and fitting way for this character to go. I kinda liked it and didn't really find it all that creepy or scary. Now I realize I'm just a sick man xD
+Edward Boland I'm now a bit curious as you seem educated as to what these creatures are. I guess the Loa are supernatural deities or spirits? Either way, is he being dragged to a spirit world or afterlife? I thought it was kind of implied they were just eating his soul considering he offered up a city as payment for his debt.
Perhaps he's not being dragged anywhere, maybe it's just total death. No afterlife, just completely disappearing forever. That monster deserved it for killing Ray.
There's a lesson to be learned here. He just sealed himself a fate worse than death for all eternity just because of one fuck up. That's how crime world too. Moral: either don't make mistakes or don't do crime.
I actually kind of feel bad for him You can really see the desperation and terror on his face. Seeing this, I can't really blame him for all the terrible shit he did. While that certainly doesn't make any of it right, look at his alternative.
+jordan price It looks to me like she just wanted to take away his powers and felt bad for him as he was being dragged into the dimension of his "friends".......
Birdy Flame Phoenix That's the problem though. We're not really sure who exactly he was, and his connection with his "friends". He talked a lot about a debt thatbhe owed them, so it may have not even been for selfish reasons. How do we know that he wasn't just doing what he could to repay them throughout the entire movie?
+Cupaholic Milo Don't deal with the VooDoo Mafia. Or at least, pay your debts before taking new ones. He pushed his debts too far, and got collected on.
Sucked into the gaping jaws of hell. What a way to go? But he did have a point, he was literally 1 step away from total victory, if they just gave him another of those Voodoo things, he would have won easily and given them what they wanted. It always seemed a little weird to me.
you dont get one more... theyre just as happy with his life as they would have been with his victory... spirits dont make deals they dont mind losing...they always get theirs...
I think they knew he would fail right from the start, they just wanted him to think he would succeed kinda of a cruel way of just when he thought they were his friends and that he believed he would win they wait and watch for the moment he fails then they collect what he owes them. Just like the devil and his demons do with anyone who makes deals with them for greed or fortune.

The most interesting thing about Facilier's end is that it was inevitable. He always took on more and more debt, always one more deal with his friends. He was so deep in over his head that if he hadn't been claimed today, it would have happened tomorrow, or the day after.
voodoo doesn't really have a concept of heaven or hell, I'd just imagine that he was sucked into their world, that he was claimed as payment for his debt
This is the only time I’ve actually been sad when a Disney villain died:/ Like, everything he did was because he was afraid of this outcome. He tried Voodoo and couldn’t get himself out of it alive unless he did what “his friends” asked.
I remembered watching this at 9 at the movies, this scene scared the shit out of me. I honestly think this movie deserves more recognition...I think it's really underrated.
The problem with this movie is that it has wasted potential. They could have done so much more with Dr. Facillier, he was animated brilliantly and one of the most badass Disney villains. The voodoo plot and restaurant motive are what carried the movie, without it you just have a rom-com with frogs...
@@datsweggybruh8775 Yeah he did carry the movie honestly. I guess though they didn't wanna reveal too much about him because at the end of the day it is a romance story 😂 just with an incredible villain
Everyone is talking about how he died but how come no one is talking about how awesome the music in this scene is? I need a longer version and not the song from the beginning of the movie. I mean just this music
By all accounts, if we hadn’t seen what he actually did to get all that power we’d assume for the entire film he was using pure evil magic. Instead it turns out he made a deal with the Voodoo Spirits and failed to pay back. If we never saw those scenes with his friends, it’d be confusing for sure but a lot shocking to realize he literally gambled his soul

I just imagined something awesome. If Princess and the Frog was in Kingdom Hearts 3. Facilier gets dragged into the grave, but shortly transforms into a tombstone-like Heartless for Sora to fight.
I swear this is the scariest disney villain death ever. Not only because voodoo is honestly NOT something to be screwed with (the animators knew this and made up symbols instead of using real religious ones to not summon spirits) but voodoo dolls popping up out of the ground like zombies and GETTING SWALLOWED ALIVE BY A GIANT VOODOO MASK AND SENT TO HELL IS NIGHTMARE FUEL! Brrr. Wicked or not I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
This may come as a shock to you, but Voodoo doesn't exist. Magic doesn't exist. Tinkerbell and unicorns do not exist. And Snow White and her seven dwarves do not exist.
Maarten By saying voodoo doesn't exist, you write off and disrespect a religion. It's not just a bunch of dark magic and curses like people seem to think, it's an actual religion, practiced by a lot of people.
The fact that when i was a kid i thought he just got dragged to his grave that's it, little did i know that when i grew up there's more to it... THEY LEGIT DRAGGED HIM TO HELL
Demons: Except give Dr. Facilier a little more ti-time-time-time. What? Facilier! Are you stalling? Facilier: Stalling? ... No, I don't think so. Demons: Yes you are, you're doing it right now. Facilier: ...Stalling? Demons: Stalling!
Of course not! The dude was literally dragged into hell by a bunch of voodoo ghost things, while they were cheerfully singing a song letting him know he was about to die!
You know you're screwed when your own theme song turns against you.

When your trademark villain theme song is used against you by your allies, you're in deep trouble......
Agreed
ryan macdonald He shouldn't have written checks he couldn't cash as often as he did.

His was the most pitiful. He did everything out of fear of his "friends" he took a debt and wasn't able to repay it. Pitiful
magic always comes at a price mate ....even constantine knows that
Too true, am I the only one though who thinks that these spirits knew he would fail in the end. Seems to me that they did
+Alexander Garcia that's why voodoo is always a gamble with spirits mate. you gotta be extra careful when conjuring or invoking cause one screw up and those friend's on the other side will take joy in dismembering you

I can't be the only one who was MORTIFIED by this death. It is the only Disney death scene that has ever truly scared me. I remember having nightmares about this one for weeks when I saw the movie a few years ago.
Not surprising, seeing as he was literally _dragged into Hell while desperately begging for his life_.

I never realized how dark deaths in Disney movies were.
In this movie, he's legitimately being dragged into Hell.
In Tarzan, you can actually see the shadow of Claton's corpse when he got hung.
And I never noticed this as a kid?

Don't forget the Evil Queen falling off a cliff, getting crushed by a boulder and then being eaten by vultures! And that was Disney's first feature-length movie if I'm not mistaken!

Kyle Stubbs I've seen it...this one takes the cake in my opinion, although the other is scary, this on is petrifying from a religious point of view (which i have)
You should watch Clayton's death from Tarzan, he accidentally hangs himself.

Emma Coppen Again, like I said before, it doesn't horrify me the way this one does.

Totally Similar!
yeah tought so too
+xD Yep.
But once it broke they were all pissed as hell
blackngold cuttlefish my impression was that it was a deal, the spirits weren't subservient to him, it was a mutually beneficial deal (with the spirits wanting souls in exchange for their help)
I mean they were the ones that gave him the necklace during the 'friends on the other side' song
And once the necklace was broken the spirits decided Facilier wasn't able to give them what they wanted
I might be wrong though
One of the coolest Disney death scenes ever. Keith David is the man!!!
Theory: Facilier was a dead man brought back to life after a deal with his "friends". An entire town's souls in exchange for his.
Hence why he was:
A - Stating he himself had a debt
B - Had a gravestone there when he was swallowed up
C - So willing and motivated to damn New Orleans to voodoo hell.
He had a debt to the spirits because he kept asking them for power.
Yoogurd Dewd I kinda wanna think he died along the way. I just love villains that get corupted.

This scene is so scary but SOO COOL. It's gotta be one of the best things Disney's ever animated. Seriously, there's so much detail packed into just a single minute of animation, and each frame has its own detail that you'll miss the first time through.
Here's just a few of the little details that sell the scene:
-When the masks sing "ARE YOU READY?!?" for the first time, the center mask has a toothy, crooked grin.
Trying to leave me?"
- As Doc's being dragged away, the glowing things that were flying around actually bounce up and down the ground, leaving drums everywhere they touch.
Joey245 This is what MADE Disney, now they don't do this things, only to not offend the parents and scare the kids.
Another detail. When we saw the huge horned mask in other scenes, his eyes were a pinkish purple. Now they’re green.
He is being dragged BY his shadow into the mask's mouth in the end. You can see at 1:02-1:06.
All of the masks are grinning actually. I think they all want this.
When I watched this as a kid I felt legitimate sorry for Facilier, the fear and panic on his face and in his body expressions are so clear and real, it chilling how this much emotion can be captured in a DISNEY movie!
"HOW AM I EVER GONNA PAY BACK MY DEBT!"

My first time seeing this, I thought this was a pretty creative and fitting way for this character to go. I kinda liked it and didn't really find it all that creepy or scary. Now I realize I'm just a sick man xD
Actually, he is not 'being dragged into Hell' as the Loa are not demons, nor do they have any relation to the Christian concept of Hell.

Birdy Flame Phoenix That's the problem though. We're not really sure who exactly he was, and his connection with his "friends". He talked a lot about a debt thatbhe owed them, so it may have not even been for selfish reasons. How do we know that he wasn't just doing what he could to repay them throughout the entire movie?

after that they decided to cut their losses
you dont get one more... theyre just as happy with his life as they would have been with his victory... spirits dont make deals they dont mind losing...they always get theirs...

Look how shocked and horrified Tiana looked. I bet she wasn’t expecting this to happen. I bet she though she was just gonna break the curse
Am I the only one who thought this death was pretty creepy?
Of course not! The dude was literally dragged into hell by a bunch of voodoo ghost things, while they were cheerfully singing a song letting him know he was about to die!
You just HAD to ask didn't you?
Rywan Yup, I needed to know.
+Tyler Roberts No, he was dragged into the Spirit World
Yes uber creepy
That's what he gets for making deals with friends from the other side
Yeah “Friends”
moments before a winged cat that is an overloard in hell was spawned
And a few years after that, that cat ran into a certain radio demon who made him his slave
Well... Dr. Facilier at least you will never be lonely, Have Fun with your friends on the other side !
