  • The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Armed Forces Day Parade 2020 was held on Friday July 31 at the JDF Polo Field, Up Park Camp, Kingston. Armed Forces Day, which is traditionally used to mark significant events in the history of the Force and notable events in the Nation’s history, was first held in 1981. Over three hundred soldiers including members of the Massed Bands and Corps of Drums of the Jamaica Defence Force were on parade at the event.
    This year’s parade focused on acknowledging the JDF’s commitment to its mission, celebrating service to the Nation, and recognizing the individual hard work and dedication of the troops. The Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Allen and the Prime Minister, The Most Honourable Andrew Holness, accompanied by Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Rocky Meade, handed out over 153 Medals of Honour for General Service to select members of the JDF on the Parade.

    The JDF look very very smart on the occasion, those that are trained at Sandhurst and with the Royal Marines wow you can see the training. There are some sloppy moments such as not standing still, and movement after commands are given. So, we now need to see a squad or platoon from the Air wing taking part in these parades.

Also as a former instructor I met numerous JDF soldiers who were students here in the U.S. and became lifelong friends. During my active duty time I made it a practice to visit with them at Up Park Camp on every visit home for vacation and will always be a supporter of my JDF. My wish is to be able to work with the JDF upon my retirement even in a volunteer position so as to assist in making improvements for our soldiers and police.

    • @oludummo4593
      @oludummo4593 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Do you even know the real size of jamaica? the main island is 10.900 sq,kilometres. the rest of its territory is 25 times bigger. totaling. 272,500.sq klm.
      that is jamaicas total size .even after losing the cayman islands that was part of jamaica. so to protect all its assets jamaica is still not protected .the military is still too small .so jamaica really needs a blue water navy,and a air force to reach its other 28 islands and protect its sea from drug trafic ,arms ,and invasion.
      they just got a bigger new coast guard cutter called ..Nanny of the Maroons,jamaica is not any insinifican little island as most of you think.if it was a white nation island .you all would not be so critical of its development-only when an African nation try to stand on its own 2 feet it gets negative criticisim .
      do you critisise the small country of israel ,or other poor nations.? jamaica is too important to be left unprotected.

    • @michael-bz5qz
      @michael-bz5qz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oludum Mo yes it’s a small country at the end of the day that’s not really involve in world affairs . As a small island military isn’t necessary just like Costa Rica and panama . you’re a big dreamer I must say . Blue water navy is a world wide navy which will never happen. It cost too much and a waste of money since it’s not involve in any thing that requires it. Being a white nation has nothing to do with this ... you’re trying too hard now

    Not a bad parade the 1 concern is that the parade commander does not escort H.E, it his aide and the chief of defence staff from the official residence unto the parade square for the presidential salute followed by the national anthem.

    Love to all the West Indians who have served here or home much respect. Now can someone tell me why is the Jamaican on the ground?. No national flag should be lowered that low, present it but don't disrespect it.
