Bobby was the man......wish he had a longer career. Nobody was rocking the stages like Bobby.....mega presence, personality and fire. He really made his own career so short lived with that ego.....damn Bobby....you were great.
Great observation----full on dancing to an upbeat track like this while trying to sing smoothly is tough. I personally like his "back in the day" performances where he's focusing more on the vocals rather than going hard with the dancing and being out of breath to sing the notes.
I think the focus of this performance was the background dancers. Notice the camera followed and focused on them. Those angles tell that's why he wasn't showing out dancing. All of the that background wouldn't have been needed if the focus was intended to be on him. Bobby used to do him and 2 guys dancing normally. That's when he shows out. But this production looks more musical style focusing on all the players not the star. imo.
I totally remember when this aired, especially the dancers popping up in the audience. The Robert Townsend show the shiggity back then, and Bobby was the man.
Guessin this is before the song really caught on. Bobby doesn’t even have his “Gumby” cut here.” The audience isn’t really reacting to it. Also, Robert Townsend’s crews antics during Bobby’s performance was VERY distracting.
