    I actually love how infrequently these come out. Whenever they do I am so excited, and it feels more like a "real" restoration. I've been working on my van about as long as you folks and its encouraging to see that slow steady progress is super healthy. Too many "One day/one week builds" that are actually super discouraging on youtube, its just unreasonable.

    Hello, living in the UK. Sad times 🤣 the tin worm likes living in the UK in old VW's. So, I've been looking for inspiration on replacing the front cab floor on my 72 crossover dormobile.
    It is largely original, even down to the interior.
    So, this video has given me a lot of inspiration to do what I need to do next with the campervan.
    Really enjoy your videos! I am one of those people who enjoys watching these videos.
    Hello to Malory (so sorry if it's spelt wrong) he is reading again late at night 🤣 so sorry about that also 😅
    Loving the idea of bonding the panels together is pretty unique.
    This dormobile I own now is my 3rd vw restoration, but I still feel nervous about doing it 🤔🤷 I blame emotional attachment to classic v dubs 💁
    But regardless, what we do when restoring these old VWs is we keep them going, giving them the love they deserve.
    So, essentially, having said that, you do you basically. Put whatever engine you want in it. Go as deep as you want with restoring it.
    It's all love. And that's what it's all about.
    Spoonful of loving the dubbin 🤙🏻❤️☯️☮️
    Peace and love from a happy hippy in the UK 🇬🇧 ❤️
    Thank you for these videos!

    The flloor welds ye did look perfect. I agree with your pannel bond vs spot weld theory I think water can get in and then trapped in between the metal and cause rest to accure out of sight.

    The original was only spot welded...why did you decide to completely weld that floor in? Won't it make it damn near impossible to swap out nest time? Thanks for making these vids, btw...I'm doing basically the same thing with my '71 and LOVE your content!

    • @Vangabonders
      @Vangabonders  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't plan on swapping it out ever again, but If I had to I would just cut around the welds and grind them down with a flappy disc! Cheers and good luck on your 71

    Was it welded like that before or was it just spot welded?

    • @Vangabonders
      @Vangabonders  ปีที่แล้ว

      Spot welded from factory. The seam weld I did is overkill

    What compressor do you use that works for your painting needs. iE HP, CFM and tank capacity?

    You are motivating me to work on my Vanagon. How do you have your welder set, in particular amps?

    • @Vangabonders
      @Vangabonders  ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a Lincoln Easy MIG 140 set on B and 4.5 - 5 wire speed, not sure what B converts to in amps though

  • @steelyerface21

    awesome work @Vangabonders
    Did you have formal welding / body work training before you tried to tackle your bus?
    Where was the original crappy floor panel from / manufacturer? Aside from schofield i also saw theres a jp dansk brand outside of the klockerholm?
    Did you do the engine lip and rear chassis leg section yet i havent seemed to find that in your vids

    • @Vangabonders
      @Vangabonders  ปีที่แล้ว

      To answer all your questions in order, I have never been formally trained in either welding or body work. I am solely self taught and have managed to improve over time of just practicing. I still have much to improve though. As far as the original front floor I had, it was from BusDepot and was the klokkerholm part, but as far as the JP Dansk is concerned it is the same crappy part, so don't buy it if you are having to replace any large area of front floor. Hell I wouldn't even buy it to do a small patch. I haven't recorded the episode about repairing the engine lip and rear chassis section but I do have the parts and I will be recording that soon. Cheers!

    You are wasting money on the quart of epoxy primer , get it by the gallon . boy has it gone up in the past year . From 100 $ to 160 $
