Tempo is slowed down. 1 voice, not a duet and powerful singer! I get chills and tears every. Damn. Time I listen to this song. Profound, haunting and a beautiful version of this song
The live version on Conan was even more impressive because he was quite ill at the time with flu/fever. He is amazing, as a singer and as a very intelligent and kind man.
The live performance on the Conan O'Brien Show on 3/28/2016 has David backed up with a 20-piece orchestra, it has been viewed over 100 million times(the most from the Conan Show), the audience gave him a standing ovation and applause for over 10 minutes, the backstage people came out to see who was singing, it was nominated for a Grammy, and David was sick with a fever. I would like to have a DVD with the video of the studio version and the audio of the Conan Show performance. You might want to listen to "Hold on to Memories".
I was very impressed at how he could climb the scale. Also I never expected a metal singer to actually be able to sing. And yeah, he totally knocked that one out of the park and into low earth orbit. There's no point in anyone else trying to cover that song now.
Please go to Wikipedia and read David's bio...It's heartbreaking yet inspiring...It gives more meaning to this cover and his other music... Your reaction was superb...Starting with an interrupted video...And your knowledge afterward... Thanks! 🦋Lily🦋
He was trained as a cantor and has continued to work with a vocal coach. Simon & Garfunkel gave a whispered warning. Disturbed is giving you a battle cry. I LOVE David’s vocal fry. Gets me every time.
Paul didn't say that ... it's a common error people make conflating what Trent Reznor said about Johnny Cash' Hurt cover... Paul did reach out but only in social media etc and said how good the cover was... but nothing about owning the song or whatever.
David Draiman...one of the best male vocalists on the planet imho. He has a tone to his voice I've never heard before. When he sings....you know who it is. He can go from angelic head voice to rasp/distortion on a dime and back....not easy to do. Also did you notice he can put vibrato on the rasp too? VERY difficult to do. Love your take on it Alex!
I loved this reaction. So good to learn more about his singing and technique. I've also loved watching some of your reactions to John Farnham and to Jimmy Barnes. Please, please also add Guy Sebastian to your list. Another exceptional vocalist who also writes great songs. His live versions of 'Standing With You', 'Believer', 'You Will Know my Name' and 'Battle Scars' are absolutely amazing.
Paul never said that to David. He did send David an email saying "Really powerful performance on Conan the other day, first time I’d seen you do it live. Nice, Thanks.". He also posted this on social media: "In case you missed it, Disturbed did a wonderful rendition of "The Sound of Silence" on Conan this week. The S&G cover..." but the rumor that Paul reached out and told David he owns the song now, is actually a conflation of a comment Trent Reznor made about the Johnny Cash version of "Hurt" when he said "I wasn’t prepared for what I saw, and it really then, wasn’t my song anymore." Unfortunately, people don't fact-check before posting comments these days.
Loved your reaction and technical analysis - thank you! I search for the reactions with the most emotion, but also those I can learn from. You accomplished both very nicely. My opinion on this cover is it is about as close to perfection as one can get. New subscriber here.
When he was on Conan, he was massively sick with the flu but went on to sing it anyway. Adds yet another level to that recording knowing his condition...
Yes he was sick.. didn't want to cancel is why he is seated for the show. Amazing that he actually sounds better live then in the music video. *warning* there is a couple spots of autotune, however David did not want that doen and apparently was pretty pissed of after that they did it anyway... or so I have heard.
Great reaction, I love watching people who genuinely know what they’re listening to & explain it to the rest of us 😅. Not just gawking at the amazing song. Although I can relate to that, lol. But I found your reaction very pleasing to watch & listen to your comments. Thank you! I’d love to see you react to “hold on to memories” by Disturbed also.
The musical score was just brilliant!!! The concept and arrangement was so daring and provocative. And the video told an intriguing story that probably nobody interpreted from the original song. Sadly, a few glaring mistakes.... rushed it a couple times.... wrong lyrics on "the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls...." sounded like he said..... "the words AND the prophets.....", then finally...."whispered...." 6 words from the end.... that short e in whispered just does not work. All that asaide..... an AMAZING....truly mesmerizing work! Thanks! 😀
I absolutely love your professional analysis, and I didn’t for a second think you were being an *******. So interesting to learn what you have to teach. This has become my new favourite song in recent years. I'm an Aussie, and we have a favourite son who has a wonderful, also unique voice. He began as a 22-yr-old, now turned 73 and can still hit the notes and belt the power. He wasn’t interested much in touring, so didn’t travel to America, although he did do some soundtrack work. Many big names sang with him in Australia - Tom Jones, Ray Charles, Celina Dion and more. Would love to hear you react to his reimagining of the Beatles 'Help' live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (always listen to Aussies live where you can, they cut their musical teeth in pubs and wouldn’t have survived if the couldn’t sing note perfect), then his ham comedic operatic duet of 'Granada' with the Aussie opera and musical theatre icon Anthony Warlow. Be warned, John Farnham has a very large and loyal TH-cam following.

@Karen Walker ...God bless you, Karen. I'm praying for you. May it encourage and strengthen you, if even in a little way. Your resilience is encouraging to me and I'm sure to others who are dealing with serious health issues. Music helps me so much. I hope the newest vaccine booster (the bivalent one that also targets Omicron) will give you more time. I lost my brother to COVID at the start of 2020. He was immuno-compromised. I'm excited to check out the artists you mentioned. I've heard the name Il Divo, but not familiar with their music. I never heard of the Carlos you spoke of, but I surely will check out his work. I am looking forward to hearing all you've recommended. I also want to share with you a wonderful artist you may not have heard... Stevie Ray Vaughan (he's also known as SRV). He's a mesmerizing performer! Incredible, incredible guitar and vocals... blues, rock, and jazz. Amazing, improvisational, masterful, invested, passionate, inspiring, releasing, soulful, intense, charismatic, other-worldly, moving, joyful... so many ways to describe him in different performances, whether the songs are covers or his own originals. Music is alive for him. It just flows from him and through him. For a first taste I'd suggest you check out his live performance of "Life Without You" (from the Capitol Theater, Passaic, NJ). He wrote the song in memory of his good friend and guitar tech Charlie Wirtz who passed away unexpectedly. (That whole concert was great.) There's a particular studio-recorded song called "Tick Tock" that I think you'd appreciate. It's a song that Stevie did together with his brother Jimmie Vaughan for the album called Family Style. That album was released posthumously in 1990, just a month after SRV passed away in a tragic helicopter crash at 36. The song is a window into the type of man Stevie Ray was... kind, compassionate, generous, loving, hopeful, authentic, and incredibly humble... a really beautiful soul. SRV overcame many struggles and helped a lot of others overcome theirs. Other songs from live performances: the addictively upbeat "Pride And Joy;" his ethereal "Riviera Paradise;" "Ain't Gone 'n' Give Up On Love;" "Testify," "Texas Flood" (the El Mocambo performance is incredible!); his cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Child" at Austin, TX; the slick "Look At Little Sister" (also from the Austin show); "Lovestruck Baby"/"Rude Mood" at Daytona Beach, FL, where Stevie was having such a blast that he was literally dancing... and so many more. By the way, his amazing and tight band is Double Trouble, originally formed just with friends Tommy Shannon, bassist, and drummer Chris Layton, and then joined in 1985 by awesome keyboardist Reese Wynans. If you wish to listen to more, some of his VERY notable concerts include those at El Mocambo, Toronto, Canada (1983); Austin, TX (1989); Daytona Beach, FL (1987); and Montreux, Switzerland (1985). Also check out some of the music videos he and Double Trouble did, like their original music video "Superstition," which is most entertaining and cleverly done. Stevie Wonder invited them to record the track at his own home studio because he really admired SRV's talent, and Wonder even appeared in a cameo at the end of the music video. Another of their great music videos is the one for the song, "Couldn't Stand The Weather," and also a hilarious one featuring his song, "Cold Shot," where SRV pokes fun at his own guitar obsession. There's even an MTV Unplugged program where Stevie Ray is killing it on several pieces performed on 12-string acoustic, and a duet performance of "Pipeline" on a double-necked guitar with his brother. Plus wonderful duets with others like a session with one of SRV's mentors, Albert King, the song "Tin Pan Alley" with Johnny Copeland, and "Oreo Cookie Blues" with another idol of Stevie's idols, Lonny Mack. Whether Stevie Ray Vaughan is playing alone, or in a duet, or performing with his band or another group of musicians, or doing a music video, or revealing more of himself in an interview, you can't go wrong with SRV. Again, God bless you, and hang in there. Let music continue to console and uplift you, directing your focus onto good things; help strengthen and sustain you; offer vibes for your healing, protection, and peace in the face of your struggles; and bring you satisfaction and joy! Take care.
Amazing reaction my friend Alex!!....In 2017, the music world was shocked by the bursting onto the scene of a 22-year-old singer named Dimash Kudaibergen, who performed on the famous Chinese competition show for professional singers called “The Singer”... It was just It was necessary for this young man to make his first appearance, making a cover of one of the most difficult songs in the world, a famous French composition called "S.O.S. D'un Terrien En Détresse", to be considered from that moment on as the best singer in the entire planet....No one in the musical field had ever seen a human being, being able to reach vocal ranges above 7 octaves and several semitones, that is, all 88 keys of a digital piano, which reaches a little more than 7 octaves and as if that weren't enough, sing the more than 12 languages...Since then all kinds of experts (Vocal coach, analysts, singing teachers, youtubers, reactors, etc.) have dedicated themselves to reviewing their presentations to try to understand how someone can sing this way...The incredible thing is that that presentation in China was in 2017 and 5 years have passed since then, but what Dimash has done in these 5 years is to further improve his wide vocal range, which is currently practically above of the 8 octaves... The Covid pandemic stopped his concerts worldwide, all with tickets sold in just seconds, via the internet, but at the same time it ended up catapulting him to the top of popularity worldwide...Anyway, since I think you are one of those reactors who have not yet met this impressive singer, here is the link of that presentation in China in 2017, with the song S.O.S. and I would like you to mention my name as the person who recommended him to you...You have to be prepared because you ar going to receive an avalanche of views, comments and new subscribers....I leave you one more recent video than the others, so it does not have the same number of views as the previous ones, which have millions of views, but it is a more complete video, with an intro, subtitles in several languages and with the improved quality of audio and sound....th-cam.com/video/bDX3FhmyNac/w-d-xo.html

This has become a standard for the band, always expected at their live gigs! David and his brother were trained Jewish cantors. He turned to metal and his brother is an opera singer. Paul Simon said he wrote this after a dream and the meaning is still argued about. The video I feel talks of the rediscovery of lost music.
(That whole concert was great.)
There's a particular studio-recorded song called "Tick Tock" that I think you'd appreciate.
Take care.
Appreciate your Honest Reactions could you Please React to Billy Lord "SECTION 318" TY
The Covid pandemic stopped his concerts worldwide, all with tickets sold in just seconds, via the internet, but at the same time it ended up catapulting him to the top of popularity worldwide...Anyway, since I think you are one of those reactors who have not yet met this impressive singer, here is the link of that presentation in China in 2017, with the song S.O.S. and I would like you to mention my name as the person who recommended him to you...You have to be prepared because you ar going to receive an avalanche of views, comments and new subscribers....I leave you one more recent video than the others, so it does not have the same number of views as the previous ones, which have millions of views, but it is a more complete video, with an intro, subtitles in several languages and with the improved quality of audio and sound....th-cam.com/video/bDX3FhmyNac/w-d-xo.html
ooooooh cool! looking forward to this!
@@OutOnThatLine Thank you my friend for responding my comment... Your first reaction to Dimash will change your life as a reactor forever!!
Have you reacted to any symphonic metal? If I've missed you reacting to this request, so sorry. Please react to Nightwish performing Ghost Love Score at Wacken in 2013.
God is sending a Very Strong message in this song to ALL of us... Fools... Say I.....You do not know.....Hear my words that I might teach you...Take me arms that I might reach you....And the people bowed & Prayed to the neon gods They made & the word of the Prophets are Written !!!! David sang this from his soul & it is Absolutely Beautiful !!!! If anyone can sing a song with the meaning in its words its David !!!!
One island find the sheet music, the other find the instruments and travel to them...
Paul Simon saw THIS very performance on Conan and loved it.
Poor David was really poorly with a bad cold when he sung it on Conan, so I urge you to watch the official video to hear David in top form and the visuals really add to the music.

Re: Opera singers who can't act, HAVE YOU HEARD DIANA DAMRAU'S QUEEN OF THE NIGHT ARIA??? Because she can....and actually, her Scary Eyes are a little TOO on point...
Haven't heard/seen it but i know what I'm watching now! Set me up for the scary eyes.
@@OutOnThatLine The link's here....and I warn you in advance the weird-ass slightly-creepy hairdos are......something else. you got to look at the live version on Conan. Far better
good looks! i'll check it out.

Well, he’s is a vocalist
I know...but the video has worth and relevance, of course.
Probably a lot easier for him to sing since it's Auto-tuned. See the Wings of Pegasus video here: th-cam.com/video/v_h9-Cpn_uY/w-d-xo.html

No auto tune here mate. Draiman doesn't use it because he doesn't need it.
