This video is the third in a short series introducing Finite Element Analysis to people who are new to this area. In this video we discuss some key concepts in engineering analysis that will be necessary to understand some of the later videos in the series.
We start off very basic by defining units and unit systems and we then go on to define displacement, deformation, strain and stress. Later we explore important topics like elasticity, plasticity, strain energy, principal stresses and yield criteria. Each of these concepts will come up again and again in your study of FEA so it is important that you really understand what they mean. If nothing else, this video is a good introduction/refresher on basic concepts in engineering stress analysis.
