There are so many incidences of racism in universities, not only from the students but the professors. It is only recently they have started to care to save their image. I honestly felt like I lived in a bubble from K-12 grade because I grew up in a predominantly Black and Latino community and racial situations wouldn’t come up between us but as soon as I got to college it was completely different. I was intimidated by the amount of white people that were in my classes and some I came to see that are racists. I never thought I would be faced with situations like this especially in our modern society but it’s only getting worse. Hearing Jessi say all those things about her schoolmates teasing her was so hard to hear and breaks my heart. I love her strong will and the fact that she fights back for herself and what is right. And I hate to say that racism is common in America but it really is😔

Actually, it was a stereotypical question. Unfortunately, prejudice and racism are built on assumptions. Yes, we have issues with gun violence due to access, but to ask "does everyone need a gun?" is as bad as what she experienced with the girl making the "slanted eyes" gesture.

@@michellehm7317 I don’t agree with you because doing something like stretching back your eyes to make fun of an Asian person is making fun of something a person is born with and belittling someone just because they’re a different race from you and because they look different than you do. While saying ‘’does everyone need a gun?’’ is stereotypical but it is a fact that A LOT of Americans own guns and we all know that. Seriously , i'm working in a school myself and if a student trow her book and desk at an other student, i will do the same as this teacher. @@Marie-or4ds it's best that the teacher deals with this type of conflict. After all, teachers are the adult figures in a classroom, and should be leading the classroom. What Jessi's teacher did was ostracize a student, Jessi, without knowing both sides. I'm hispanic and i was raised in a small town where the latin community was at 5% and black at 3% and zero Asians most ppl in this town was all white. There is even history of this famous black college and it was gone for the lack of support and how black ppl went through shit. I never knew about this until recently and that explain why there was only 3 black kids in my school. I faced so much racism and it hurts more when a teacher or even the whole school sees the problem but does nothing about it. Thank God, I had a very best friend which made things easier for me and her. She was my ride or Die type of friend. WE got in so many fights with bullies. I understand where she’s coming from but from a young age my school personally has told us to be careful with what we post on social media. Schools don’t only look at our grades or the amount of community service hours we do but also our social media accounts because I feel like they do this to see who we are as a person. Our social media accounts reflects how and who we are most of the time ( basically our character ). And yes racism towards Asian became ( or is becoming ) normalized but some Asians ( not all ) feed into the racism towards them by not caring or laughing it off so as people who aren’t ignorant to these actions, we shouldn’t let it slide. Plus colleges should really be looking at their own students who ATTEND their college to try to lessen this issue while looking at those who are applying for their colleges.

I live and grew up in the US and I've experienced and seen racism at the schools I went to. Also, the teachers would even participate in it. It's really sad that a kid has to go through that because what they experience and how people treat them impacts their lives as they grow older. It's also sad that people don't take these stories seriously enough. I had a negative experience but a lot of my classmates went through hell and it dismantled their prospects of a good future. I'm glad I got out of there intact. School sucks. Students sucks. Teachers suck. Nobody wants to listen or understand the issue. It just goes ignored.

What's funny about this is whenever there is an issue about racism or cultural things in Asian, Americans always throw their opinion as if Asians people ar the dirtiest or closest minded in their opinion. While actually Asians opinion also consider the social and cultural point of view hence why our opinion usually doesnt makes sense for them that doesnt have unique culture. What I hate is they act like they are the most truthful and no one can change their minds.

I’m so sorry Jessi had to go through that during her school years. I can’t speak for other countries but in the US racism against Asian people is sadly normalized or unrecognized as “real” racism. However, I think more people are aware that racism against Asian people is real and more people are working to stop it.
