Growing up in the country and surfing so many perfect Souteast kona days with mike in the 70's, are the best memories! What he was doing on single fins back then, was some of the most progressive ripping insanely blowing people's minds!!!!! Never foget just busting up laughing at Ian Cairns/ "bronze aussie", paddling out on one of those rare days when gas chambers actually gets like otw!! It was 8' square heavy juice and just spitting!! Mike and I were surfing deep behind the rock almost rockie rights alone, no one else out and Ian Cairns was just swearing in aussie, paddling out watching mike just ripping on a big one,. Basically that bronze aussie had never seen anything like this in his life! He was screaming "bloody this" and that, freaking out blowing his mind, because nobody surfed like Michael back then, especially in the country!!! Only guys I ever saw doing that kind of surfing in Hawaii, back then was Titus Kinimaka!!! No one ripped that heavily in Hawaiian juice 8-10' waves as them!!!! Sure, there were lots of us really ripping but mike and titus and a hand full of guys were next level and beyond!!! We had it good back then, uncrowded, and cane fields everywhere just so stoked and blessed!!!!!! Mikes a true Hawaiian legend surfer, still going!!!! Seeing mase & coco carrying the torch for the Ho family just satisfies me with a smile!!! RIP, Derek Ho, miss him so much. Grew up with these guy's from.hana budda days!! Used to chase Derek around when he was a little kid!! What memories surfing!!!!! It's changed so much now, we are truly blessed, born and raised growing up surfing country then!!! I wouldn't trade it for anything!!!! We had it literally to ourselves, just da boyz!! No ka oi!! Aloha. D.L.
