This video was perfect. I needed to learn how to tie hitches. The details were perfectly vague enough and the steps unexplained just the right way. Combine that with the sheer speed of the video so I couldn't follow along and this became exactly what I was looking for!
@@rocketrider1405 Right. Who does that?? That he showed the wrong way before showing the right way *really* bothers me. Makes me wonder if he’s trolling us
TH-cam has this awesome feature at the bottom of the viewer: Click the cog wheel (settings) and then choose a slower playback speed. I more often use this feature to speed up slow speakers.
Thank you for all these KotW videos. I never really get a chance to learn/practice these (being in IT), so these are nice helpful teaching tools. And thank you for including they WHY to use a particular knot! Too many instructors teach the knot, but not how/why to use it.
I've always used the half hitch the "wrong" way as you show at 1:05. It self-tightening when you pull on the rope, and has always worked fine. Why is it considered the "wrong" way?
You called it a hitch and then a double hitch, then started calling them 2 half hitches? SO is it a double hitch, or 2 half hitches? If it's 2 half hitches then how did the hitch turn into half because you added another one lol?
Thanks. I will practice. You did however, tie them differently each time. The first, you went under the dumbbell then under the mainline. The second you went over the dumbbell then over the mainline. Twice for the double... Confused me at first until I played it back a couple of times. Otherwise, great video 😎
It's not a "hitch", its half hitch which is incomplete with out a second half hitch. Calling it a hitch alone gives the idea that a single half hitch might be acceptable option, which it never is. A hitch is a type of knot, not a specific knot in and of itself. Adding a round turn does add friction which is good, but more than three would simply be a waste of rope. Adding another half hitch or a stopper knot on the free end are other ways to make the knot more secure and possibly use less rope depending on what you are bending your line to. All that said a round turn and two half hitches is a good hitch to know. If you can tie a two half hitches you can tie a clove hitch which is a good hitch that does the same job and takes less rope. A clove hitch is simply two half hitches tied around a object, add another half hitch and you have a double clove hitch, even more secure. Want a set up that won't fail, use a clove hitch and two half hitches. Done right, something will break before that knot fails.
I prefer the buntline hitch because it's far stronger and it's possible to tie a slipped version. Technically it's just two half hitches but upside down.
WHAT A REALLY POOR DEMONSTRATION. Say, I got an idea, lets confuse the watcher by switching directions and going really fast. That will surely impress everyone.
Yeah. So messed up that they showed the wrong way of doing it before they showed the right way of doing it! Check out first class amateur channel for knots

I'm a 157 lb. femboy and I had no problem following along.
@@EllyCatfox Good for you, I’m with the other guys and I’m off to find different teacher.
make sure you do it real fast so one can see how you do it!
Too fast- half hitch or hitch?
I didn't find it that fast at all. The view was excellent too.

Too fast??? 😂😂😂 It was perfectly demonstrated with a perfect view. It's also not even that complicated a knot 🤷🏻♂️
How was that to fast? Didn't think he could show and explain it any simpler.
Fascinating! Thank you so much.
appreciate that detailed vid on how to tie. I learned this 35 years ago in Boy Scouts....so long ago

I have no idea what you just did.
"So to do this knot, do it, and you're done."
Thank you

So... "Just" a clove hitch around the load end, once the loop around the anchor point has been set. Right? Great.
Thanks. Very well explained

Could've thrown in the clove hitch too, that's my go to hitch knot. Great knot to know
Nothing like showing someone had to do something and doing it and hyper speed. Good thing there’s a slow motion feature for these TH-cam videos.
Thank you sir
I literally have a knot tying quiz on Thrusday so that's why I'm here lol.
Interesting to find out I've been wrapping the second hitch the wrong way round - I like symmetry you see
Is there any advantage on the right than the wrong one?
What can a hitch be used fir
Thanks. I will practice.

awesome video. thanks helped me get my fishing poles tied together. all in all great video.
Nice intro
is there a type of hitch that is made especially for horses?
Bro you actually made knot tying boring. I'm astonished. You are talented

u should make a video lol
@@rdptll I agree haha
Why is "Cow hitch" the wrong way and "Clove hitch" the correct way?
I prefer the buntline hitch because it's far stronger and it's possible to tie a slipped version. Technically it's just two half hitches but upside down.
I might be wrong but your "wrong way" is called a square knot. Cub scouts was a long time ago, I'm not positive.
Your video proves an old fart can still learn something. Thanks
I keep my hitches tight! Yo!
LMAO

Too fast
Navy man I assume?
🖤
Your last knot is a round turn and a granny knot
How bout slowing that down chief!
“I’ll demonstrate that real quick” why?????
I learnt it better on mute - the explanation wasn't great. And WHY would you show how not to do it first! Come on man, give us a chance -

2 half hitches - wrong/right way .. : I didn't know that. Thanks
Half-hitch?! You cheapskate! You better follow this one up with the Globe Knot! 80D
actually, the Mathew Walker would be a good one sometime.

As I watched this video my left toe got tied so hard that I couldn't untie back.. Lols....Hopefully it makes sense,,,,...thankss!!!
