      Very late, but think of the outcomes. There are 16 total outcomes, how many of those are when half the cats are male and the other half female? Well you can have (M,M,F,F) (M,F,F,M) (F,F,M,M) (M,F,M,F) (F,M,F,M) (F,M,M,F) for six total. Now think of three being on gender and the last being the other gender, you have (M,M,M,F) (M,M,F,M) (M,F,M,M) (F,M,M,M) and the same set but with Fs and Ms switched, so that’s eight. A more general way to show it would be to say there are 4C2 ways of ordering two of each gender, and 4C3 ways of ordering three of one gender, so for the 50/50 split it’s simply 4C2 = 6 and for the three of one/one of the other it’s 4C3 = 4 for three male, and another 4C3 = 4 for three female for a total of 8.

    Anyone willing to explain to me why the dice roll involves permutations and not combinations? Seems to me order of the dice wouldn’t matter when finding probability i.e. denominator would be 21 instead of 36

    • @deinauge7894
      @deinauge7894 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      assume for a moment, that the dice have different color. than you can distinguish them. green 5 and red 3 is different from green 3 and red 5.
      but now if you make them the same again, that cannot change the probability.

    • @Nowolf
      @Nowolf ปีที่แล้ว

      in other words, the chances of each result wouldn't be uniform if you don't distinguish the dice.

    • @deinauge7894
      @deinauge7894 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nowolf that's a cryptic reply... what do you mean by "result"? but you are right, you cannot just assume the same chances for every result. you can only do that if you define your results in an appropriate way. eg the numbers on distinguishable dice.

    7:40 wth, I don't think I ever learned about factorials in school 😂
    Either that or it was taught once and never again and I just forgot
    I just read that != as a "not equal"

    The "people ask you the same questions when they find out you have a degree" is exactly the same as when they find out you speak a second language.
    Literally everyone always says: "SAY SOMETHING!!!!!", then, no matter what you say, the next thing is always "WHAT'S THAT MEAN"??!?!?"
    I've just defaulted to asking "what do you want me to say?" in the other language every time.
