So random. I've been following your channel for a little while now and love your how to videos because my dream is to refit an old blue water cruiser. As I was watching this video, I thought Tom's voice sounded familiar before his face was shown. Then I saw his face and realized he's my uncle. I knew he lived in Ventura and worked on boats but I had no idea that he did stuff like this. I guess I should give him a call when I find my boat.
@@SailorJames the story I always heard from my mom was that he was an engineer who gave up his career to build a sailboat because he didn't like all the traveling his company was putting him through. Makes perfect sense that he would help rad old sailboats nowadays
The work looks good. Glad you spoke about once the boats in the water the shape changes and you'll have to realign. Hope the vibration wasn't to bad getting back to home port and you waited several days for the boat to take "shape" in the water to get a final alignment.
It was actually amazing how little vibration there was! Because of the damaged prop my boat had severe prop walk and vibration before, when we were motoring out of the Ventura Harbor I was amazed that I could let the tiller go and she would drive straight. Got her realigned when we got home 👍🏻
Remember if it is Friday in LA, it’s already Saturday someplace else. Also it is easy to get stressed out when your boat is in the boat yard so long. Not only do you worry about the bill you worry is all the jobs have been done correctly. But you look to be making progress toward your goal. Best wishes. Be safe.
I made the comment before I seen the whole episode you're okay that bearing is going to be tight until water gets on it and the engine runs for a while and it will loosen up that bearing just enough so don't worry about that just try to get your engine lined up the best you can for now but that shaft will be a little tight until the engine is ran for a while that water lubricates bearing you're in the home stretch good luck brother.
Whatever takes to get ya guys going and not stress about extra spending. I know my and other's Dollars are well spent...after all it is going to a really good cause! Keep on sailing.......
Hi I wanted to ask how the hull paint turned out? After your second attempt and used up and down brush strokes. Did the paint flatten out nicely? Thank you.
James I don't know if this will help you contact some guys in the drag boat world they do this all the time I've done it myself anyway you can sometimes have to put a U joint and a real short shaft can make up for anything but anyway trying to make it perfect by raising or lowering your engine is hard to do that's why we put you join in between you might have to back the engine up to be able to do that or what have you but anyway if you can try to contact somebody in the drag boat World they might be able to help you more in your area.
Yeah I’m learning something...
When doing boat projects, Patience is a virtue!
Without a doubt !

Tom is an absolute genius, very few people that I have met in this field, and I have met hundreds, that’s are as knowledgeable and skilled as Tom.

It came out amazing, I wish we would have had time to paint additional coats but the final coat we did was beautiful
You ever think about getting starlink internet on your boat?
Boat jobs are not the greatest of fun James that's for sure!
Great video! I think you convinced me to become a patron ~ c-ya on patreon
Cheers from the I.E.
Thanks so much Randy!!!!
Hey James ...not about yachting... but did you ever own a lead sled or rat rod 50s car ?
No but I seriously considered it at one point, I own vintage motorcycles and have owned a lot of vintage cars and trucks

I come in peace bought your book and all but why no face masks
Why would we need face masks for epoxy? This was filmed in December
Sailor James I’m an idiot lol
Hahaha, we wear masks anytime we are in public and limit our exposure to a small number of people in our “quaranteam”
