Wow! Excellent video. Full of info. I use Siril and photoshop for masking and Camera Raw Filter. PS is my wife's. She is a pro photographer. So when I say Siril is a whole lot cheaper with PS that is the reason. I would prefer Pixinsight just for the RC add ons. Anyway, it's a hobby while my wife's is a way for money so I guess that is what I will continue with. Clear skies.
Another great presentation, I personally use Pix and Affinity, I can see Pix charging an annual subscription soon, hope I'm wrong astrophotography is sooooo expensive already 😊
Nice comparison. Yes! A camera raw filter like took in Pixinsight would be perfect. I'm surprised there isn't a tool like that in there already. I do most of my processing in pixinsight but use PS for camera raw.. and sometimes blending NB with BB.
@@ballashoes Yep, I know. The NBRGBCombination script has been around for several years.. and its outdated IMHO. I typically use the continuum subtraction method for adding NB to BB (Adding Ha to Galaxies for example). I use the following pixel math equation to separate the Ha data from the red channel " Ha_Image-Q * (R_Image-med (R_Image))... where Q is a variable that has to be tuned (aka trial by error) ". Then I would use a different pixel math formula to create an enhanced red and sometimes an enhance Lum. Recently, instead of creating the enhanced red/lum I started using the NBcolormapper script to colorize the subtracted Ha and then use PS to blend the LRGB image with the colorized Ha image (or Oiii if that is what I'm adding).. usually using screen. There is a recent script that does the continuum subtraction for you instead of using pixel math.. but I still get better results using the pixel math version. There is also a "Blend" script in pixinsight which I believe will accomplish the same thing as blending the two in PS but I have not played with it yet.. partly because its easy to blend them in PS.
Siril and Gimp for me at present as they're free. I'd buy PixInsight if I had the spare money. Photoshop can shove their subscription where the sun doesn't shine.

Well, i don't get it. Everyone has a video to teach you the mechanics of taking pictures of the sky. Then, the whole System tends to break down. Use this program, it's free and the best there is. No, this one is better. My problem is, I'm retired, have lots of time, got good equipment, but having a hard time figuring out the processing of images. The language of processing is foreign to me and yet to find a program that has an instruction manual for starters that a newbie can understand.
Pix insight is the best astro purchase I've ever made. It's a steep learning curve but the rewards are well worth it plus it's a one time payment!

Based on the images I've been seeing, Pixinsight is the way to go but the price keeps me staying with Siril haha.

You might want to change the RC Astro plugins url to the RC-astro software page since these are not made by the PixInsight Team but by Russell Croman.

I took 4 year off and just came back. siril star extraction is a game changer for me I couldn't figure out how to do it good in photoshop.
I bet Pixinsight with BXT would get you a better quality improvement for your dollar than most hardware upgrades, but $400 still is alot of money
Siril+GraExpert+Gimp. Ultimate decision. It's not even about money, but about functionality. Siril is the leader.

I tried PixInsight and like some features, but I’ve worked with PS for so long, I decided to stay with PS.
Does anyone just use Lightroom for astrophotoraphy? That’s what I use for my photography but not sure if it’s enough for Astro.
It's great for nightscapes but not so much for deep sky.
